I listened to Two Reasons to Run by Colleen Coble on Audiobook. I loved the narrators voice and must give some credit for a very well done job in that respect. I received this audiobook as an ARC from NetGalley, and did not realize it was the second book in a series. I actually felt this story was a bit cobbled together in some areas and now attribute this to a large part of the storyline being explored in the first book. As a stand alone book it did ok, and left me interested in unraveling the different lines of the plot further. I may need to locate One Little Lie to find out more! In the meantime I would recommend this as a light, non-stressful domestic suspense. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC of this book, all opinions are my own. 3.5 stars

I enjoyed listening to this romantic suspense novel. It is the second book in the Pelican Harbor series and once again follows Chief of Police, Jane, and Reid, a documentary maker. This time they are investigating a murder on an oil platform, and the situation quickly becomes personal.

I requested a copy of this audiobook through NetGalley, and Thomas Nelson kindly let me borrow a copy to review.

My favourite part of this story was seeing the continuing relationship between Jane and Reid. You definitely need to read the first book before this one, as their personal story continues throughout the series.

I felt the book had a strong undercurrent of mystery, but even more so of suspense.
Nevertheless, it was the personal relationships that I enjoyed the most. We got to see all the main characters develop, especially as they found themselves in personal jeopardy.

The main character Jane continued to develop her faith.

Once again I loved the narrator Devon O’Day. She always performs Colleen Coble’s books really well.

I am looking forward to the third book in the series to see how all the personal problems develop and what mystery they will face next.

I actually could not listen to this book, I gave it about a half hour. I listen to a lot of audio-books, and if the narrator does not capture my attention I do not enjoy the book. In the case of this book, I did not get a feel of place, time or character from the narrator.

Why I enjoyed this: Well. What do you know, I read the second novel in a series without realizing it was a part of a series! That’s ok though because I was able to catch on and follow along.

For fans of #johngrisham and his Camino Island series, check out this series by Colleen Coble! These two series have similar reading and writing styles. A good clean murder mystery.

For my audiobook lovers, this is a great one! I loved the narrators voice. It was clean and easy to listen too. No background distractions! There was also some delineation each character voice which made it easier to follow along.

Two Reasons to Run by Colleen Coble is the second book in the Pelican Harbor series. The narrator is easy to understand and reads at a perfect pace. Set outside of Mobile, Alabama in the small town of Pelican Harbor, a worker mysteriously disappears from the oil rig, Zeus, and his mother goes to Sheriff Jane Gray to help locate her son. The investigation uncovers a terrorist plot to destroy the oil rig, Zeus, which would create an environmental disaster that would devastate the Alabama coast. The perpetrators of this terrorist plot targetted Jane's recently found teenage son, and the boy's father investigative journalist, Reid, joins in to protect the people he loves. Coble has authored another installment that picks up with Jane and Reid's story and leaves the reader eagerly awaiting the third book.

This is the second book in a series and while you can jump in here (I did), you may feel a little lost about some situations at least at the beginning, but later through the story you can fill in many of the pieces.

The story is great. lot so faction, mystery, drama, and more. it's a well told story that flows nicely and I was easily engrossed.

The narrator is fantastic.. a great job with emotion, infliction, and character voices varied enough to tell the difference.

*received audiobook for free from netgalley for honest review* Didnt get to read the first book so didnt know the whole back story but i gathered alot and have a feeling it would have been annoying had i read the first one, since they pretty much sum it up over and over again? the one thing i found really, really annoying about this book (mostly bc i had 0 idea it was going to be such a thing) was the constant religious talk, im not against people talking about it even if the book isnt considered religious, but i really, really hate when people "thank god" for things that people did, like you can think god saved you all you want or whatever but like maybe throw the person who did the work a bone too? normally it doesn't annoy me but it did in this book ngl.

In the first book in this series, One Little Lie, Jane Hardy, Pelican Harbor's police chief, learned the truth behind a secret held for fifteen years. This rocked her to her very core. However, this also brightened her future beyond belief. She had already been in a precarious situation after taking over the job as police chief after her father retired, and then had to be investigated for serious crimes.

However, something, or someone, brought light into Jane's world. She was reunited with her son, Will, whom she long thought dead. His father, documentarian Reid Bechtol is someone Jane needs a lot of time to deal with, in order to accept decisions Reid made involving Will.

Meanwhile, there is a terrorist plot in action, and the situation forces Jane and Reid to work together yet again, thus forcing the difficult feelings about their situations below the surface. When the killer hones in on Will, then Jane and Reid must work fast and hard in order to protect their son.

The first book in this series left things hanging between Jane, Reid and Will. For that reason I do not think this book, Two Reasons to Run would work as a standalone. There is too much history that is explained in the first book, and then added to in this second book. Also, the first book clearly explains Jane's reticence when it comes to Reid, another factor that might not have as much impact if the other book is not read first. What is more is that this book leaves readers wanting for much more, and that won't happen until at least April 2021, with the upcoming third book in the series, Three Missing Days.

While I had this book as an electronic ARC, I also received an audiobook for review, so that is what this review is based on. The narrator was Devon O'Day, and since I listened to the first book as well, this gave me two opportunities to hear Ms. O'Day perform the stories. She did an exceptional job with the voices, emotions and how she was able to convey the depth of the book. Her narration was impeccable making the book that much more compelling.

Many thanks to Thomas Nelson and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

4 out of 5 stars - I'll tell you to read it, if you ask me

I really enjoyed how the story pulled you in from the beginning. I wish I'd known that it was the second book in a series before I started listening, as the continuation gives away surprises that were revealed through the first book. Even without reading the first book, I was able to follow the story line and figure out what had already happened.

Jane Hardy is the Chief of Police in Pelican Harbor, AL. There appears to be some sort of conspiracy happening on an off-shore oil rig, and a missing man who knew something was going on. The mother of the missing man comes to see Jane with emails from her son stating that if he were ever to go missing, she should visit the Chief and share what little he knew and shared.

As the story unfolds, there are chapters told from the perspective of "the man" who is behind some of the mysterious happenings -- including break ins and threats against Jane's son, Will.

I really enjoyed that I wasn't able to figure out who was behind everything until it was revealed.

Thanks to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Publishing for this Advanced Listening Copy.

What’s not to love about Jane, Reid, and Will? I am loving this cultivating story of redemption from Colleen Coble, and I can’t wait for the 3rd book to release (which really stinks for those of us who are reading/listening to book two before it’s release date)!!

When a possible terrorist plot against an offshore oil rig comes to Jane’s attention, she feels compelled to track down leads, even though Homeland Security took the lead. When the life of her son is threatened in possible conjunction to her continuing to track down the culprit, she becomes more determined to find who is threatening her family, and the surrounding environment she calls home.

While I have liked all of the Colleen Coble books I’ve read to date, none of them have been 5 star reads, and she isn’t one of my pre-order authors. That being said, this book really hit it out of the park. I love the development and depth of these characters, and I feel like Coble may have really hit her stride in strengthening her characters over several books. I’m on pins and needles waiting for book 3!

Two Reasons to Run has it all: revenge, kidnapping, love, suspense, intrigue, forgiveness, faith, and enough twists to keep you guessing.

I listened to the audio version of this book and really enjoyed the narrator, as well as the pace or narration. I always appreciate when the same narrator is used to continue a series. It is often hard to jump when you have also given characters a “voice”.

I received an ARC audio file via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Romantic Suspense

I received this book through Netgalley for an honest review, but didn't know that this was book 2 of a series. I definitely would've read book 1 first had I known. It felt like there were some things I was missing.
I normally don't really read romance but this really wasn't a romance story. It was a suspense, mystery. Which was full of action. I liked the character's but the description of the chief of police didn't really match the voice in narration in the audio version of the book. But nonetheless it was an excellent action packed mystery. ⭐⭐⭐
Thank you to the publisher and to #netgalley for the advanced copy of Two Reasons to Run

I got this book from Netgalley exchange for a honest review.
It was decent. I thought it would be difficult starting from the second book but the story was told quickly and the mystery could be read on its own.

Couldn’t put this thriller down! Great mystery that I really enjoyed. Some plot twists that I really didn’t see coming. This book is part of a series. I would recommend reading the first book prior to this book. Eager to read the last book in the series next.

I did not realise that this title was the second of a series. I do think you have to read the first one before tackling this one as you need to know the background, who certain characters are, and various events that happened in the past.

I got by, and the suspense and family drama kept me interested. I’ve discovered that I enjoy fiction better when it’s an audiobook. When it’s a printed book, I often find myself skipping page after page.

Devon O'Day did a great job with the narration. She skillfully handled the voices, even the male ones. She kept me absorbed in the story while I was cooking, cleaning and tinkering with my hobbies.

Thank you Netgalley and Thomas Nelson for the audiobook. This is my honest review.

Two Reasons to Run by Colleen Coble brings readers back to Pelican Harbor. Note: It helps to read One Little Lie first, as Two Reasons to Run picks up a few weeks later. Jane and Reed’s relationship is on shaky ground, while Jane tries to get to know her son. But naturally Jane finds herself smack in the middle of another mystery.

While the story brings drama and intrigue, much of the plot centers around the characters trying to figure out their ever-changing circumstances. Jane now becomes a mother after fifteen years. Reed deals with his son, his feelings for Jane, discovering his long lost relatives, and his ex-wife. Jane is a great character – her credits include being police chief and having escaped a cult. She’s strong, yet comes to grips with her need to let others into her life – especially Reed. She struggles to forgive both her father and Reed for past lies.

The plot is complex and I like that it follows the same characters as the prior novel – but don’t think things will be wrapped up when you read this story. It definitely leads into the next novel in the series.

As far as suspense, the small-town-murder-mystery vibe continues from One Little Lie. Jane investigates in the midst of death threats and multiple murder. Things get intense when Jane’s son becomes a target. Not too many plot twists, but the story is fast paced with enough intrigue to keep suspense fans happy.

You can’t go wrong with a Colleen Coble novel. She always brings readers great characters and edgy, intense story lines. Definitely check out this series.

******************* Audio Book Review *******************
I am such a fan of audiobooks, so I was excited to receive my first review copy for an audio version! I thought the narrator (Devon O’Day) was fantastic and kept up the suspense level throughout the story. I find fast-paced novels work best on audio, and the pacing and story line mixed well together. There is only one narrator, which I prefer over a variety for each character. This is very enjoyable and entertaining novel as an audiobook.

Overall Rating: 4 stars (I liked it a lot and would definitely recommend)
Suspense Rating: 4 stars (lots of action and suspense to keep me intrigued)

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review. It is set to be published in September 2020.

"Two Reasons to Run" by Colleen Coble is the second novel in the thriller series Pelican Harbor.
It's a very enjoyable read, with interesting characters, an unusual kind of investigation (the murder that kick-starts the plot is apparently connected to the threat of a terrorist attack against an oil platform, which - if not prevented - would bring about an environmental catastrophe).
Reading a thriller so different from the usual, trite stalker/serial killer plot was a breath of fresh air in a genre that is often victim of clichés and stereotyping.
The relationship between the main characters is also very original and the "family" dynamics among Jane, Reid and Will are extremely interesting to explore.
I have to admit, I haven't read the first book in the series, "One Little Lie". At first I was worried this would impact on my understanding of the plot and characters of "Two Reasons to Run". I was pleasantly surprised, though, at how reader-friendly this novel is, even for somebody who hasn't read the first instalment in the series. The essential backstory information is provided without boring the reader with too many details. It was just the right amount of facts to allow me to enjoy the current story... and pique my interest about all that happened in the characters' past. I will definitely read the sequel, and maybe even go back and read the first novel in the series, because it's just that compelling.

I am really enjoying this series. Jane is such a great character. Her background is so incredible and as she continues to discover that everything she thought she knew was a lie, she is becoming even more likable. Now with Will and Reid in her life I'm enjoying their transition in to a modern type family. I'm excited to see how this series ends!
