The long-awaited continuation of Chief Jane Hardy that was well worth the wait. I love how the book begins with mystery and suspense and jumps right in where things left off. Jane is trying to build her new life that includes her son Will and finding her new place as a mom of a teenage boy. Will and Reid are a package deal, so she must also work through her hurt, lost trust and growing attraction to Reid. I love that despite the terror that looms, they all stick together as a family and handle the crisis together. It is a beautiful picture of stress drawing people closer together rather than pushing them away. Of course, there is plentiful mystery, suspense and thrills along the way; one could expect no less from Colleen Coble. The excitement picks up immediately and stays strong all the way through. I highly recommend this continuation of the Pelican Harbor series. Devon O’Day has the perfect voice fluctuations to capture each of the characters and the building drama and suspense. I’ve not been disappointed by anything she has narrated and this is a great book to showcase her talent.

Two Reasons to Run is an action packed book. Two Reasons to Run is the second book in the Pelican Harbor series. I didn't know this was the second book in the series until I started reading it. I could understand the main story line without reading the first book. However, there were a lot of things I felt like I missed and I didn't connect with the characters. I think I would've enjoyed Two Reasons to Run if I read the first book in the Pelican Harbor Series.

Someone dies on the Pelican Harbor oil rig. Was it a suicide, accident, or like the letter he sent his mother a murder? The man that died heard someone talking about a terrorist attack on the oil rig. Jane, police chief, and Reid, investigative journalist, work together to try to find out what is going on and stop the potential terrorist attack. Is someone after Jane, Reid and their son?

Devon O'Day did a great job narrating. I think I liked the book more because of Devon O'Day's narration.

I recommend this book to people that like action packed stories, but I would start with One LIttle lIe before reading Two Reasons to Run.

Thank you NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for Two Reasons to Run.

I was not aware this was the second book in The Pelican Harbor series. I will definitely be reading the first and others in this series. Great story and characters.

I nearly gave up on this one right near the beginning when the narrator attempted a cockney accent. Even Dick Van Dyke did a better job. I hate a narrator putting on accents unless they can actually do it. It was so cringeworthy I couldn’t listen. Luckily the character wasn’t in the book that much. The narrator’s natural voice is a bit too nasal for my liking but she does read well.
The story itself is ok, but not great. A warning of a possible attack on an oil rig leads to the death of a young man and threats to the protagonists and their son. It would have been ok, but for two things which may be ok with you but didn’t sit well with me. Firstly, I bet this author writes romance novels because there was far too much smoochy moonlit glance type narrative. That made me want to give up. Secondly, there was a lot of Christian narrative; a lot about trusting God and knowing he would look after them. If that’s your thing then you might like the book. Oh, and another thing comes to mind; despite having a supposedly gutsy female cop protagonist, the women were all so sappy and 1950s housewifey. I forced myself to listen but really didn’t take to this one.

A scandal, lies, environmental terrorism, romance and murder - are you serious?! The premise, which I'm not going to repeat from the blurb, had me hooked from the start as I was intrigued by the intricacy of the story. I was worried that so many different and seemingly unrelated tropes might not have a change to be delivered well enough, but I was wrong; the various elements seem like a lot, but the author did a superb job tying them together in a well-written story.

As I listened to the audiobook format of this novel, I must say that the narrator was really good. Not quite one of my favorite audiobook narrators ever, but she was still one of the reasons why I liked "Two Reasons to Run" so much. Her intonation was just right which made the suspense stand out in the right places.

While I haven't read "One Little Lie," the first book in this series, I had no trouble whatsoever understanding the characters and the plot, so it can certainly be read or listened to as a standalone. As far as I understood, the characters and their story are the common tie, but the mystery itself is a complete standalone. Highly recommend.
