Lord of Loyalty by Elizabeth Keysian
Greedy family and scheming dastardly usurpers bedevil a perfect couple, Will & Isobel. If only they could come together except the machinations of these two groups are circumventing every effort!
Elizabeth Keysian has definitely used her writing skills to bring forward many plights that plagued English society at one time. The treatment of courtiers that fell in disfavor of the Queen just because they were not her friend that particular week! Another difficult plight was the mentally ill and their treatment by society which still happens in society today.
I love how the author is able to refine the Storyline and bring it down to a conclusion without it being stilted or abrupt.
This was a wonderful book to read beside the pool for a few hours!!!
I would like to Thank the authors and publishers for their diligence and hard work in producing great books for us the readers!
I received an advanced copy from NetGalley and I am willingly giving my thoughts and opinions!
I received an ARC from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Lord of Loyalty is the second book in Elizabeth Keysian’s Tudor-set Trysts and Treachery series, but it can be read as a stand-alone. The first book is fabulous as well, however, and contains just as much period-accurate danger and high-stakes love, so I would recommend that one as well.
And once again, she insects all those things into this one. The atmosphere is well-conveyed, from the grasping nobles (represented most prominently by an evil cousin) to a prominent role played by Elizabeth’s notorious favorite, Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, highlighting some of his flaws that felt realistic to what I know about him as a historical figure.
And the main couple are excellent. While the setup is once again playing into an old trope, this time “dashing hero rescues damsel in distress,” I like that both are fleshed out so that they are more than those stock roles…Isobel in particular. She definitely starts off in a pretty precarious position and is very much in need of saving, but she also exhibits strength over the course of the story. And Will is fabulous; I love how his commitment to saving Isobel originated as a deathbed promise to a friend (already a pretty noble cause), and even in the face of the immense obstacles, he didn’t give up on her.
I can’t wait to see what comes next for the series…it’s been awesome so far! If you love the Tudor period, definitely pick this one up!
Will they come unscathed from all the threads lurking around them ...
Will is such a chivalrous fellow, he made a promise to his dying friend and nothing will stop him from keeping his word, not even if his charge appears to be quite lunatic.
Not once did he failed her, but sure it would have been easier for them both if he had voiced his feelings, instead of acting honorably as it was not seen as such.
Isobel after her ordeal could have crumble down, yet she faces the threats against her sanity and her wealth head held high. And because she was betrayed by a member of her family, it is understandable she doubts everyone around her.
While I loved the heroes’ resilience, at a time I was upset by their inability to communicate properly, they misinterpret every little act and are unable to express frankly their feelings.
But it is also an other period where courtly love was a standard, and words were easily played and given other meaning.
So at the same time, difficult to fault one against the other, both acted and reacted with some thoughts in mind, interpreted differently by the other.
Contrary to the previous book which was set for one part at court, here it is far away but with a specific historical event in the background.
4.5 stars
I was granted an advance copy by the publisher Dragonblade Publishing, here is my true and unbiased opinion.
Why does the heroine acts stupidly and childishly, can’t she speak.

Never ending action and romance.
Page after page of passion and treachery.
Great read .
This is the 2nd book of this series, very enjoyable and entertaining too.
Can’t wait to read some more , loved the feisty and stubborn Isobel poor William has his work cut out for him.
I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review
This is my fair and honest review, voluntarily given and in my own words. I thought the premise of the story was interesting. Unfortunately, for me, the verbiage used just really put me off. I so appreciate any and all work by any author and so i do not give criticism lightly.
