I thought that this was a very fun read and as a whole I really liked it. Some of my favorite things that I loved were the OW/YM age gap, the humor, over the top zaniness to the hijinks and the hero. What can I say, Duncan was 100% swoon worthy in my opinion. There was just one thing that bothered me about this book and that unfortunately was the heroine, Beatrice. I just did not like her. I tried and boy did I want to, but It simply never happened for me. Still, It was a really enjoyable book that is well worth reading.
Great Scots! Eva Leigh is one of my favorite romance authors and this latest book did not disappoint. A surefire hit with your library's romance readers.
I tend to not gravitate towards ~Scottish romances as a general personal preference but I was willing to make an exception for Eva Leigh and I'm really glad I did. Whew boy, talk about steamy. Her 80's inspired series has been such a lark and now I want to go back and reread all of them again!
What happens when you have the scorching chemistry of Jamie & Claire from Outlander, add in some rad 80s movies references, and a tight-knit bromance? You get the 3rd installment of Eva Leigh's The Union of the Rakes series. Major Duncan McCameron has resigned himself to a loveless future. Dowager Countess Beatrice Farris, finally free of a loveless marriage, is determined to experience everything and have the best time possible. When Duncan is asked to escort Beatrice on her journey to a hedonistic party, these two polar opposites butt heads immediately. But they also cannot deny the overwhelming physical desire for one another. Can these two find a "happy right now" or a "happily ever after"?
I loved the 80s pop culture references, especially in a historical romance. The lead couple had great chemistry overall.
Beatrice is finally a free woman and is determined to live her life to the fullest. Heading to a week-long bacchanal, she has plans to fully indulge. But she has a few hiccups on her journey there...mainly with her travel partner.
Duncan has agreed to travel with Beatrice to act as protection while she travels. But the two of them could not be more different and it causes issues along the way. The biggest issues though, seems to be their mutual attraction for one another.
Can this unlikely pair find what they didn't know they were looking in the other person?
I adored Beatrice and Duncan's story! These two together were so much fun. The bantering between them had me laughing out loud throughout the story! This was a great addition to the Union of Rakes series!
Waiting for a Scot Like You is not the book for me. I am a little over half way through (65) and am losing interesting. I enjoyed the first two books in the Union of the Rakes and was looking forward to reading Duncan’s romance. There is a lot of demanding sex. Yes, that is apparently what Beatrice wants especially since her deceased husband did not care about her. Undoubtedly, this book will appeal to a huge audience, just not me. I like a bit more romance and less ‘wandering.’
What we see of Beatrice’s personality is her strength, kindness and consideration of others, while also, reaching for happiness. I had looked forward to Duncan finding his HEA, but not sure I am even going to finish. The scene behind the inn curtain …. no. I like a bit of sensual life with my romance. Not two bunnies behind every nook and cranny. I want to know the end, so I think I will skip ahead.

Please allow me to add, why mention the couple on the mail was black? Politically correct? Trying to be inclusive? And, sadly, I do not care if two men are 'coming out.' That just did not happen during that time period. Again, inclusivity, politically correct???
I do not like publishing negative reviews and will not be posting anywhere but on Net Galley’s review site.
I love 80s movies, and The Breakfast Club in particular, so this series has interested me. I wasn't sure how she would make Ferris Bueller's Day Off into a historical romance novel. But she did! And it’s sexy and fun. The hijinks are not quite the same, but there are fun parallels.
The heroine is older in this one and recovering from a bad marriage. Lady Farris is trying to enjoy life to the fullest and is not sure that the uptight Major McCameron can keep up with her, let alone have fun too. And they have some really sexy times together, so be prepared.
I like that this romance is not the typical, for all it plays with tropes like only one bed.
There is a side plot romance between two of the other rakes that I hope we get to read sometime too.
I received an advanced readers copy of this book from the publisher and Net Galley in return for a fair review.
This book was so DAMN amazing!! Eva Leigh really topped the series with this one!! I loved that it was older woman/ younger man trope with a side of forced proximity. The ABSOLUTE BEST! This was the third and final book of these series. Lady Beatrice Farris is our dowager Countess who is 46. She has 3 grown children and is ready to finally experience what life has to offer! She going to start by taking a journey north to a “house party” where the guests will get a risqué experience! Major Duncan McCamron is our gruff Scot hero who is trying to find where he fits in after the war. He is put in charge of taking Beatrice on her journey....even though these two don’t really get along. They couldn’t be more opposites. But along the way they encounter many detours and lots of steam! These two are seriously fire together! This was probably my favorite in the series! But honestly I LOVED them all! I was so happy to watch these two push each other buttons while trying to fight the affection. This whole series has an 80’s these per book as well, which was so enjoyable! I can’t say enough about how much I adored this book! I highly recommend this book!
I’m sorry y’all, I tried!!
This story really did take its sweet time to get to where I ultimately wanted it to, but I also have a terrible feeling that I know how it’s going to end and I won’t like it!
Also, the audiobook probably wasn’t the best choice to ultimately go with, but regardless, I just wasn’t incredibly moved by the story.
I’m quite sad about it because I really was anticipating THE HECK out of this one, but they all can’t be winners, right?

Where to even begin? Waiting for a Scot Like You concludes this trilogy inspired by 80s movies and the "Don't you forget about me" reference at the end of the book about did me in. Is it weird that I now associate that song so much more with Pitch Perfect than The Breakfast Club? Anyway, Waiting for a Scot Like You has so much going for it. The book is sexy af and literally starts out with the Duke asking Duncan to escort Beatrice to a literal orgy. It's a wild time full of lots of misadventures. Duncan and Beatrice don't exactly get along as Duncan clings to rules and convention to make himself feel safer/like he has a place still after the war and Beatrice doesn't care much for convention at all. She spent too long living as a married woman to a man who stifled her in every way, though we only really get illusions to what that life was like, rather than specifics. As they grow closer and begin to look past their differences, you can see that it's going to be an issue later.
Beatrice thinks she's only interested in something casual and she knows she's unwilling to ever even consider the idea of marriage again. Duncan, meanwhile, is so deeply romantic and doesn't really do casual. They're clear with one another and up front, but it doesn't stop the bleak moment from being really heart wrenching.
Overall, this book is such a romp. Their trip to the orgy is full of some really wild events and it keeps the book really interesting and kept me more engaged. I mean, there's a horse giving birth off to the side, a stop at an inn that involves a cooking lesson, throwing a dance party, a carriage accident, only one bed!! It's just really full of adventures that keep bringing Duncan and Beatrice closer to one another. I will say that I found the beginning quite slow and I think that's just an author writing style mismatch for me than anything else. Or it's 2021 and I'm having a hard time anxiety wise. Who is to say? Anyway, YMMV, but all in all, I thought this book was fun and sexy and has an unconventional HEA, which I adore.
Also, two of the members of the Union are having their own love story largely off page, but we do get to see Rowe and Curtis have their own HEA.
Waiting For a Scot Like You is an action packed , page turning romantic adventure that have all the elements historical romance readers love. The story of the merry widow and the stoic major entering the magical world of love!
It has a breathtaking setting , phenomenal dialogue, wonderful characters and extraordinary plotting never knowing what would happen next.
I highly recommend this book as I could not put it down.
Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher through Netgalley , for a fair and honest review. I voluntarily agreed to read, review, blog and promote through netgalley. All words, ideas, thoughts and opinions are my own.
As always, Eva's stories are filled with emotional conflict, great characters and lots of sexiness! Loved watching a very controlled man lose his over a woman he would never have dreamt of wanting, let alone having! Fun, sexy, emotional - all the things I want in my historical romances!

Erica – ☆☆☆☆
Waiting for a Scot Like You is the third installment of the Union of Rakes series. As I had not read the previous titles, I can attest to the fact that the novel can easily be read as a standalone, with little to no confusion. However, I do wish to go back and read those two books at a later date.
Now a widower, Beatrice is a mature woman, married for twenty years of her life, with older children. Not only is Beatrice a mature woman, she is mature emotionally and intellectually, which is a pleasant change of pace from the genre norm of silly and vapid, young misses going to balls and galas to catch a husband. Not only is Beatrice a mature woman, she gains the attention of a younger man, something also out of the norm of the genre. I appreciated this dynamic, emotionally connecting to Beatrice.
Suddenly free to live life on her terms, Beatrice sheds the chains of social norms, determined to find joy and pleasure and excitement, wishing a lively existence after escaping an oppressive marriage. Widows have more rights than an ordinary woman, affording Beatrice the opportunity to do as she pleases.
A stubborn Scot, Duncan is struggling to find his footing when not fighting a war. Personalities polar opposites now, Beatrice encourages Duncan to shed his version of chains tying him down from truly experiencing all life has to offer. It's a balance between the budding romantic pair, but also a balance of who they used to be and who they wish to become.
A road trip, with mishaps along the way, forcing Beatrice and Duncan into close quarters. Sometimes silly, sometimes emotional, sometimes romantic. Themes referencing iconic 1980s comedies, from Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and Footloose to add comedic value.
Waiting for a Scot Like You was a fun escape, especially if not taken too seriously, while also hammering home the point that just because you're in your midlife doesn't mean life has ended, doesn't mean you can't find love and joy in all life has to offer. Doesn't mean all happily ever afters end with marriage and a baby between a girl of twenty and a grown man in his thirties or forties. Sometimes it's a woman in her late forties, just as deserving of a happily ever after a second time around.
This book was not Regency. It was so modern in its language, its conduct between the sexes and those of the same sex, I was shocked. I stopped reading at about the 69% mark when they did a take off on "Footloose". I fast forwarded to the end to find out the couple end up living together, not marrying. That would never be acceptable in the 1800's. I usually like Eva Leigh's books but if you're going to write a Regency novel, do it right.

I want to thank Netgalley for the chance to review this book, even though I really didn't like it.
Waiting for a Scot Like You by Eva Leigh is a mix of Breakfast Club meets 80s movie-inspired Regency series with a merry widow and a stoic major on a bumpy road to love. The characters are drawn together with undeniable chemistry. When a road trip goes wrong, there are many adventures and reasons to be close in compromising positions, and soon sparks ignite. Waiting for a Scot Like You is an unforgettable steamy regency romance.
I loved this! Perfect amount of ridiculousness with all the problems they run into. It was on the racier end of romance novels, which I liked. As soon as I finished reading this, I immediately found another book by this author and stayed up late reading the entire book!
I will purchase this for my library and I will definitely keep reading Eva Leigh!
y’all, I have been ~waiting~ for Duncan’s story since book one!!! I love me a Scottish hero, and when Eva dropped the little “oh btw he’s a dominant”💁🏻♀️ I was d e c e a s e d !! This book was everything I had hoped, and I’m so glad it’s out in the world today🧡
Beatrice & Duncan’s story was such a delight! I adored all the nods to 80/90s pop culture, and while I knew it was a play on Ferris Bueller it *totally* reminded me of the movie Leap Year with Matthew Goode (that man🥵) I also really loved the development of Beatrice & Duncan’s relationship— they started of a bit antagonistic, but then both open up & make themselves vulnerable and it just made my heart feel all warm & squishy🥰 I adored Beatrice’s spirit & the fact that she knew exactly what she wanted from life! And DUNCAN🔥🔥🔥 he is absolutely everything I want in a hero: caring, devoted, and ~real~ dirty & dominant🙌🏼
Waiting For A Scot Like You centers on Lady Beatrice Farris, newly widowed & leaving behind behind the yoke of a stifling marriage in style— by heading to an orgy in the country. Her escort, however, is the most straight laced, domineering Scotsman she’s clapped eyes on (though his features are certainly pleasing) While Major McCameron’s plains for a swift trip are quickly ruined by bad weather, poor directions, and a wedding, Beatrice will endeavor to enjoy herself— and the Major— along the way🧡
the only thing keeping this from being 5 stars is that it took a while for the story to gain momentum, for me. I liked the hijinks & the "he's boring, i'm fun" dichotomy, but I felt like it took a little too long to get to both a) the sexy bits and b) the more emotionally vulnerable/relational bits. But once we got both, i was fully engaged!

Review in a Nutshell: Waiting for a Scot Like You is a fun, quick regency romance with plenty of steam. While it isn’t my favorite in the Union of the Rakes series, I still did enjoy it.

Waiting for a Scot Like You follows Major Duncan McCameron, who is tasked with escorting Lady Farris to a house party. Easy, right? Except that Lady Farris, the Dowager Countess, is on a mission to live her life to the fullest and experience everything the world has to offer, which naturally conflicts with Major McCameron's strict, rule-following demeanor.
- My Thoughts -
I loved the previous books in this series, and I was really excited for Waiting for a Scot Like You, but I think my expectations might have been a little too high. Not to say it wasn’t good, it just didn’t blow me away like the first two books did.
First, let’s talk about the positives.
I know a lot of people are looking for steamy reads so you’ll be happy to hear that this book is definitely on the steamier side. I feel like each book in the Union of the Rakes series has a different level of steam, and this is the hottest. If you like a sweet and honorable hero with a dominant side? You’ll love this.
There’s also a lot of great humor in this book. This entire series is 80’s movies but in a regency setting, and I feel like it’s most evident in Waiting for a Scot Like You. There are a few not-so-subtle nods, that even I, someone who isn’t the biggest 80’s movie fan, was able to understand and enjoy.
That said, the humor and levity doesn’t get in the way of the growth of our two protagonists. They both had great development over the course of the book. Also, their dynamic was really entertaining to read (a stuffy and honorable soldier and a free-spirited, independent widow? You know you’re in for some fun).
I also want to mention- there are so many great tropes in this book. You name it, Waiting for a Scot Like You has it. While some weren’t really for me, the other tropes I did love made up for it.
So with all those positive things, why only 3.5 stars?
The plot.
I couldn’t really get into it. The characters take us from town to town, scene to scene, but nothing that happened in those scenes seemed to hook me. I found myself not really interested in what was going on around them. Certain moments felt predictable and borderline repetitive, and I found myself occasionally struggling to get through them. Also, the last second conflict seemed so easily fixable and avoidable that it was a little frustrating to read.
- Conclusion -
Pros- Good characters, funny, steamy
Cons- Plot didn’t hook me
Overall- 3.5/5 stars.
If you want a steamy regency adventure, this book is for you. However, I don’t think I’ll be rereading it like I will the other books in the series.
My goodness, I lack the words to say just how much I loved this book. The entire series is great, but this one stands far and above the others. And not just because the steam factor is off the charts.
First of all, Beatrice - Lady Farris - is complete goals - she's a wealthy widow who has raised three children, endured a typical Society marriage, and has earned the right to enjoy life to the fullest. And she certainly does - whether it's a simple meal at an inn, or being in the strong arms of her companion, Major Duncan McCameron, she lives to be excellent to others.
Duncan is a military man who is adrift trying to find his purpose now that Napoleon has been defeated. His life is regimented, and he abhors anything remotely impulsive. That's why he is the perfect choice to escort Beatrice to a house party known for its amorous pursuits.
Along the way they endure mishap after mishap, which serve to amp up the undeniable chemistry between them. You know they will eventually give in, and it is GLORIOUS when it finally happens. They both get to be something they've never had the chance before - themselves.
The book is filled with wonderful side characters, and some unexpected pairings that may not be historically accurate, but nonetheless add to the charm and romance.
And of course, the nod to my favorite 80's band makes it even sweeter.
I strongly recommend the entire series, but if you only have time for one, this is definitely the highlight.
