This excerpt was fantastic! I’m so glad the book will be out soon. I can hardly wait to continue the story. Potentially another five star offering from Marie Lu once I’m able to read the entire book.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read this excerpt in exchange for an honest review.

This was absolutely amazing complete with a plot twist right at the beginning! Marie Lu’s writing is as flawless as ever and I absolutely can NOT wait to get my hands on the full book!!

Let me start of by saying that Marie Lu is one of my favorite authors and I have loved everything she has written so far. I was skeptical of Skyhunter because I wasn’t sure what to expect. However, once again, she blew me away! Skyhunter tells the story of Talin Kanami who is a Striker, an elite fighter in the country Mara. The unique thing about Talin is that she doesn’t speak, which is a benefit to her as a Striker, as they need to be quite when hunting Ghosts, large genetically altered humans.
I found the world Marie Lu created so interesting because it is post-modern civilization in America. Something has happened to the world and the people of Mara now live with the ruins of skyscrapers and there are only a limited number of wild animals left.
Marie Lu has once again written a book filled with adventure, intrigue and a few twists and turns!

Talin is a refugee striker in the last free nation of the world. She has seen firsthand how the Federation is destroying each nation in its quest for domination, using a horrific army of beasts known as Ghosts. After Talin loses her partner or Shield, she finds herself lost, just as a Federation prisoner is brought in for interrogation.

The world-building in this extended preview is excellent as always. The story has a strong beginning and does a good job of making you care about the characters and what is happening to them. I look forward to reading the rest of the book.

I recieved this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

OMG I'M SO EXCITEED!!!! I only read an excerpt with the first three chapters and I need the whole book! And it's my idea or I read a mix between Attack on Titan and The Walking Dead? So intrigued about that hahaha

So, unfortunately this was *only* an extended excerpt and not the entire book so I can´t speak for the entire book. But, I definitely need to read this! The plot is intriguing, the characters perfectly developed. Not that I´m suprised, the author is Marie Lu. Of course the book is amazing. I will review the entire book once I´ve read it. But so far, it seems very promising :)

I received a sample of this book from Netgalley, (the first 52 pages), and I must say that I am hooked! I can't wait to buy this and read the whole thing! Our main character, Talin, is a striker (soldier) in Mara. The strikers fight the Ghosts, which are former humans that have been poisoned by the Federation and turned into zombie-like creatures that can poison others with their bite. Each striker works with another striker, their shield, to not only protect each other, but to also be there to kill the other if they should be bitten. I won't give away too much about the beginning, but I am very intrigued and excited to be able to read it all soon to find out what happens to Talin.

Thank you to Roaring Brook Press and NetGalley for an eARC excerpt to read and review! Skyhunter goes on sale September 29, 2020.

I knew "Skyhunter" would be a winner the moment I read the thrilling synopsis. This extended preview is only the first three chapters but I majorly hooked on the world-building, characters, and plot.

The world of "Skyhunter" reminds me of a cross between "Attack on Titan" and "Dr. Stone" - futuristic yet primitive dystopian fantasy. These familiar vibes made it easy to acclimate and deeply immerse myself in the setting that are vividly described by Lu.

Talin’s personality is loud and clear despite not being able to speak. She is literally and figuratively scarred by past horrors but does all she can to not only keep her and her mother afloat but protect the very nation that despises her kind (a Basean refugee or aka a rat). She communicates through sign language, which is helpful as a Striker. I think many readers will fall in love with Talin.

"Skyhunter" has the makings of being one of my favorite 2020 reads. I can’t wait to read the rest of the book!

What the what!?! Three chapters wasn't enough. Marie Lu has done it again. Within the few chapters I was able to read, the world building was established, the main players of the story were introduced and my interest was extremely piqued. I already popped over and preordered the novel. I really enjoyed Talin and the other characters and was not expecting the twists that came flying out onto the page. I can't wait to finish reading this book!

Thank you Netgalley for the advanced chapters in exchange for an honest review.

I want to start by saying this book was excellent! I am familiar with the author's previous works, and I had high expectations. I am glad to say Marie Lu met them. The reader is immediately hooked and wants to read more. Also, the worldbuilding is done in a timely and straightforward manner, which was very refreshing to read as some authors drag this part out quite a bit. There was action right away, and I appreciate that the main character is not your typical character. The representation of a mute character was a welcome surprise (I am not a mute person, so I cannot say whether the representation is accurate). The characters are likable, the storyline is well thought out, and I am so glad I got to read it.

The extended excerpt I received from NetGalley definitely made me want to read the whole thing! I absolutely love Marie Lu's books so I was excited to see she had a new one coming out. The action starts on page one and leaves you breathless. I can already tell Talin is going to be one of my new favorite fictional characters. How interesting to see a character who doesn't speak out loud (she signs instead) )and yet is still the most captivating person in any scene.

Well written with lovable characters thrust into a dangerous dystopian world - and yet, I know I will forget the characters in a few months. That is the problem with this book; you enjoy the story while you are reading it, but it is nowhere near an immersive experience.

Content warnings: death, racism, mention of torture
This extended excerpt consists the first three chapters.
Talin (18) is a ghost hunter, refugee, and non-speaking. I especially love that being non-speaking is advantageous in fighting ghosts. A lot has happened in these few pages, and I am thrilled that this is both an exciting sci-fi and a political work. The writing is vivid and flows wonderfully. The story is not only intensely action-packed, but also reflects topics of immigrants, refugees, and classism. I also think there might be an m/m side relationship developing.
Told in first-person present, Skyhunter is incredibly engrossing and I cannot wait to see what happens in the rest of the book.

Loved the sampler to this novel. It definitely worked sharing it because I was hooked and pre-ordered the novel as soon as I finished. Marie creates a beautifully described world and grotesque monsters, twisted from humans, who aim to kill everyone and everything that makes a noise. Sound is a killer in this novel and and every broken branch and footstep creates suspense to what may happen next. Definitely a book that will be seen all over bookstagram soon!

I am not as acquainted with Lu's writing as some other's maybe, only having read Legend in the past and not being a fan. I picked up this extended preview to see whether or not I would decide to pick up this book, and after reading it let me tell you my preorder list has just gotten longer.

You are immediately thrown into action, with a truly hooking prologue. Lu may partake in a common writing faux-pas, but makes up for it the longer you read. We learn some key details about our protagonist that immediately set him apart from many we've seen: he's mute and speaks sign language. I won't go into much further detail, but this book really gets you hooked early one. I can only imagine the ride the book goes on.

After finishing the extended excerpt, all I can say is that I wish it didn't end!! I haven't read many novels by Marie Lu, but wow - after reading just a few chapters of Skyhunter, I truly understand the hype around her books.

The prose in Skyhunter is so atmospheric and was what truly drew me in; it's not overly descriptive but at the same time manages to make you feel transported into the characters' world. And speaking of the world, the nation of Mara is carefully crafted and so intriguing! Plus, the main character Talin's voice is really compelling and I was already so invested in her story.

Overall, I can't wait to pick up this book when it releases!

What a gripping, exciting start. I loved the protagonist Talin from the very beginning. A protagonist that doesn't speak - be it because she is mute, be it because trauma stole her voice - is still something unique and intriguing. The fact that a lot of the conversation in these first few chapters happens in sign language is interesting, even though it does read like your usual conversation.
The world building in just these few pages is deep and intricate and intriguing. I was immediately hooked and wanted to know more. The ghosts are perfectly creepy. Not much can be said about the antagonists because they are only mentioned in the first three chapters.
The writing is fun and rich and the story picks up very quickly, starting with a bang. I will most likely buy the book to see where all of this leads.

From the few chapters I could read I can already tell that this books is going to be a wild ride. It's soon yet to see where the plot will take us, but the tone has been perfectly set to make us feel as if we were in the middle of this dystopian future that mixes Hunger Games vibes with Attack on titans.

The main character, Talin, has a rich background story and feels very human and authentic, I'm already invested in her story. She's a soldier fighting for a country that rejects because of their shared enemy, which allows an interesting moral dilema.

This book promise to give as action and many many feelings, but also the "Who are the good ones, and who are the bad ones, there's even such thing as good or bad?" dilemma that we can find in every Marie Lu book.
I can't wait to read the whole book!

PS: Excuse any mistake in my writing, english it's not my first language, but I do my best!
