Okay, well, WOW! This was SOOOO good!!!! The writing was very engaging, and the whole book was very interesting, (in a good way, obviously) I totally recommend this book!!!
I loved Talin, the main character. She's so awesome and adds so much to the story!!!
(from the few chapters I've read, I can already tell that this is going to be one of my new favorite books!!! Can't wait for it to come out!!!!)

This was just an extended excerpt and it definitely left me wanting more. This book has all the qualities about sci-fi that I love the most, but the best part is probably the characters. I really want to get to know them better already.

Note: My review is only for the extended expert I was granted from Net Galley.
Thanks to Net Galley, Marie Lu, and MacMillan Publishers for an excerpt in exchange for an honest review.
Skyhunter is a ya novel that reads like a zombie novel to me. The world is overrun with these "Ghosts" and the main character, Talin, is a Striker. Striker's jobs are to essentially kill the Ghosts before they destroy people in the city. Talin is Basean, which is a race that isn't overly fond of in the book for unclear reasons. In a raid, she lost her voice and her father. Maybe because she couldn't speak anymore physically and maybe because of the emotional damage.
Marie Lu has been on my tbr forever! I was stoked for this book because it sounded so interesting. I cannot tell you how disappointed I was to learn that I only received a bit of the book and not the whole thing. I still went with it because sometimes it's better and easier to just go with it.
It's young adult and follows some of the familiar tropes, but Lu develops her main character and the world building pretty easily.
The part give on Net Galley is basically the introduction to the actual plot, so I can't speak to the actual focus of the book yet because it was just introduced at the end of the excerpt.
I'm intrigued about the captured Federation prisoner and Talin's future as a Striker/Basean.
I put a hold on it at the library because I'm still on the fence on if it's going to be good or not as a whole.

I only read the except of this book, but so far so good! I am looking forward to devouring the book in its entirety.

I only received an excerpt of this book but so far I am looking it and can't wait to read the whole book. Marie Lu is one of my favorite authors and she doesn't disappoint!

I do not feel that I can fully rate this book or give it a review on Goodreads as the download copy was only for the first three chapters. What I can tell you is that this book sucked me in immediately! I absolutely love Marie Lu’s writing and her use of imagery. This book starts with a pretty chilling scene in the woods with what are called “ghosts” in this book. I found the description of these creatures to be so real that it literally gave me chills. From the first chapter Marie Lu has you on the edge of your chair. The last chapter of this excerpt left you with a big cliff hanger and how could you not place a pre-order for the book?!?!?

This book is set to release on Tuesday, September 29th and I cannot wait to continue the story once I have a copy in hand Tuesday!

I haven't read a book of Marie Lu's in a long time, and when I saw this my interest was instantly piqued. The cover is really well done and so is the writing. It's promising, and I have a feeling that the worldbuilding is strong with this one. I'm excited to get a copy after it's published.

Just read an extended excerpt of this book and OMG I NEED THE WHOLE THING NOW.

Marie Lu has such a talent for creating rich, interesting worlds. I don't quite know if this world is 5,000 years in the future of our reality or if it is its own thing entirely (the MC does mention a metal needle of a building and I immediately thought "SEATTLE?" but it could just be a completely new world). The first few chapters are intense, and while I saw one particular twist coming it didn't deter from the enjoyment at all. The "Ghosts" of the story are terrifying beasts but also very sad as they used to be humans. It really makes you interested in the nation that created them (because why?!). Another thing I loved was the sign language aspect and how it is seamlessly incorporated into the story (with every character pretty much being able to do it--which WOW NEAT!!!). I am officially hooked.

PS; If you loved the Legend series, you'll love this as well. Guaranteed.

Marie Lu is one of my comfort authors because I know she will write something good And she did it with Skyhunter. She always reinventing herself.

I really enjoyed this excerpt (which I didn't realize was just an excerpt.) I though their was great world building. vivid descriptions (Ghosts seem very creepy) and compelling characters. So obviously I'm grumpy that it just ended when I was getting into it. Would love to be approved to read the full galley.

I AM SO EXCITED TO READ THE REST OF THIS STORY! To me Marie Lu is a Legend (pun intended) and her writing is always glorious and captivating! Her characters are flawed and strong willed.

So far, from the snippet we have here, I am very intrigued. I’m also interested to see how this will all play out seeing as she doesn’t speak. Part of me thinks it won’t be as action packed as I assumed, if she’s supposed to be fighter. But on the flip side, she’s been this way for a few years so obviously there’s a way. I can’t wait to finish the book!

Marie Lu has become an instant buy author for me, so as soon as I saw that this excerpt was available, I snatched it up. I love the new concept and genre she's diving into in this book. Although we only got to see a bit, I'm super excited to see where she takes the characters and the plot!

Marie Lu is a genius when writing and coming up with new ideas! This book is no different! I wish I could read the whole thing, but I can’t wait for it to be out! The imagery she uses just paints the scene above the words, which is perfect when describing a new world to readers!

This was a great first look and seems to be an intense read. I enjoyed it and can't wait to read the whole book. I know the release date is coming up and I'm already planning on buying it.

What a great beginning to what looks like a very promising story! I really love Marie Lu's books and this one seems like it could be a favorite. I was immediately drawn into the world and the characters and cannot wait to read more.

Marie Lu paints a vivid world rich with diversity and beautiful imagery with Skyhunter! Reading this sampler gave me a glimpse into what's to come, and most notably gave me the same exciting nostalgia I have with Legend!

Loyalty is life.

Talin is a rat. An unwelcome refugee in Marin, she fights her way into the Strikers, where she is unwanted but needed.

You see, the Federation has created zombies to break the lines of defense of Marin. Her squadron of Strikers is tasked with keeping the zombie population in check, killing as many of the hard to kill abominations as possible.

So futuristic apocalyptical dystopian story with a badass female heroine? And did I mention she's mute?

If you're not in already, there's an enemies to lovers trope deeply woven into the story as well. With interesting supporting characters that we're begging the author not to kill off. And a mom who's not overprotective of Talin, but is instead exactly where she gets her badassery from.

All the makings of a book I'll most certainly love.

Now - there was some faulty logic in the book that distracted me.

*SPOILER ALERT* scroll past italics to get past the spoilers!

When they test the blood of the zombies and our dear Skyhunter himself, their scientific experiment makes no sense at all. I'm not a phlebotomist or anything, but a little bit more sciencey explanation would have helped make this part more believable. And the Senate's logic that their efforts with the Skyhunter would make the Federation leave them alone because they're now more capable of defending themselves didn't make any sense either. It would just make them more of a threat.

This has all the makings of a really great series. I will most certainly be reading the next one. I have heroes I like, villains I hate, an interesting world it's all set in, and wings. What more can I say?

4/5 highly recommend
