This excerpt made me excited to read the rest of the book!!! I cannot wait to pick it up when it's out :)
My Rating for the Chapter Sampler : 4🌟
.
This book started off with such good narration and I can't wait to dive into the rest of the chapters and enjoy the story! I really like the writing style and the world setting. I have high expectations for this book!
I can’t wait to read the whole book this sample just draws you in. There is action from the very beginning this is definitely a book I will preorder
An intriguing start to a new dystopian series with an interesting premise and likeable main character. Based on the small excerpt I was already hooked onto the story and will definitely be eagerly waiting for the whole novel to come out.
I always blame myself for not pre-ordering personalized copies of my Marie Lu book.
Hopefully, with Talin's story here in Skyhunter, I'll be able to snag a signed first edition. 💕
Marie Lu is back with her signature craft of what’s sure to be an unforgettable story.
While I only got to read the first 3 chapters of this, I’m dying to read the rest. I love Marie Lu’s writing and her characters so much. I’m already in love with Talin and I cannot wait to see more of the world she lives in.
Bring on Skyhunter!
Since this was only a small excerpt, there isn't much to judge on. I think the overall plot and the worldbuilding are quite intriguing with the Strikers and Ghosts, but the writing style didn't capture my attention. It spent more time explaining than showing us how capable the character is and how much she suffers from her peers.
Marie Lu also does a good job of presenting different sides to the enemy. It's so easy in YA novels to blindly demonize your opponent, not taking into account that they too are humans with families and lives to lose, and Lu handled this fairly well. Lastly, I liked the general world that Lu created int this novel. It's a postapocalyptic landscape built upon the bones of the previous, long-forgotten society. I look forward to seeing more of the world in the next installment.
.
Lu consistently writes interesting worlds and compelling characters, and I can't wait to dive deeper into it. If you're a fan of Marie Lu's previous works, or just generally a fan of modern YA dystopia, then I would recommend this book to you.

Thanks for this chapter sampler, Netgalley!
I've read some Marie Lu books in the past (not all of them yet) and with this book about to be released, you can say that I am very much intrigued.
From the short chapters that I read, the premise of the book easily captured me. The world building was good so far, simple and not too elaborate to the point that you will have trouble remembering everything.
And then there's the main character. A few pages in and I already decided that I want to protect her at all costs. I want her to be my Shield. Ha. Get it, get it? The representation alone sold me. And then of course, Marie Lu had to break my heart at the start of the book.
I'm just so sad I have to wait a few more days so that I can finally read the rest of it.
Thank you for the sneak peek! What an exciting first few chapters. I can’t wait for this book to come out so I can get my hands on it and find out what happens!
This is amazing. I cannot wait for the full book to be released. I got sucked into the book from the first page. I loved the first 50 pages that I've read in this excerpt. The writing is amazing. I will buy this book the second it comes out. Because I need to know what happens next.
This was a good look into a promising new release from Marie Lu. I have read many of her books and this promises to be another well done Sci-Fi novel.
I really like that Lu’s protagonist is mute but a skilled warrior. This actually is an advantage for Talin in her profession. It’s nice to see Sci-Fi/Fantasy heroines who are diverse in terms of disability. Definitely a branch of the genre that could be explored more.
The world building was well explained in chapter 1, so by chapter 3, I was invested in the setting and the cultural customs. I felt like I knew the world well from just this small sampling. This definitely made me more likely to pick up A book I was already excited for.
A page turner, I couldn't stop turning pages until I just ran out of more. I can't wait for it to go on sale. When I saw Marie Lu's name on the cover I knew I had to read it, and I couldn't stop reading it.

Skyhunter is a book that starts with everything and keeps up without disappointing you. Talin, Carin and each character get into your head just like the history of the land they inhabit. Lu creates worlds that are impossible to leave behind.

I was able to read the first chapters thanks to #NetGalley , #SkyhunterCHAPTERSAMPLER and I can't wait to have the complete book in my hands, #Skyhunter is a story that no lover of science fiction can stop reading, a story that has action, refugees in a territory in conflict, a guard on patrols of two, and a mysterious prisoner that promises to revolutionize everything in its path.
First of all, I'm really upset because I thought this was the whole book and that there was no label or anything to say otherwise. This is just the excerpt of a book and if the publisher did this for publicity purposes, it doesn't give a good impression.
Despite getting off from the wrong foot, I did enjoy the little of the book that I read and people were comparing it to Attack on TItan which just so happens to be my favourite anime of all time. And I definitely do see it but I'm curious to how the rest of the book will hold up.
Marie Lu just knows how to write such vivid and dynamic action sequences and I will definitely be picking this up when it comes out.
I cannot wait for this book to be published. Even though I'm only able to read the first 3 chapters in the sampler for Skyhunter I was drawn in. The descriptions for everything had me pulled in like I can actually see everything that is happening. I'm looking forward to read more of Tanlins character and see what happens next.
An interesting extended excerpt that has definitely increased my excitement for this book, I can’t wait to read the whole thing!
Before I start my review I have to let everyone know I didn’t know it was ONLY the first three chapters. Obviously I don't read when I ask for books and I was freaking out because it said 80% and nothing had really happened and I didn’t understand how that was possible. This review is of the first three chapters. Later when I read the whole thing I’ll come back and update.
“I loved their silence. I loved that it meant survival to them. They moved like shadows, with no sound except the hush of boots against the ground. I would linger there, balanced on the branch of a tree, transfixed by their lethal grace until they had disappeared from view. Now I’m one of them.“
Talin Kanami and her shield/partner Corian Wen Barra are bad ass. They are Strikers, a small elite group of warriors. The last defense in a losing war. To say I loved it from the beginning is an understatement. I love this world. I love that it’s sometime in the future but it’s also a sort of dystopian future. What happened to the Early ones (us)? Only the cities were left. Did we kill each other? Do we leave Earth and travel in outer space? All of us?? These three chapters are such a tease. I have so many questions. Also, that whole shield partnership is so interesting I want to know more about it. They partner them up on purpose because if a Ghost (zombie) bites them they become infected so it’s up to their partner to cut their heads off. I mean????? What!!!!!! I also love, love, love that Talin is a refugee and a mute. Let me clarify, I like the way the book shows racism, doubt, and violence towards her because she’s a refuge. Some of her fellow Strikers think she’s some super spy and will turn on them. They call her a rat. No one wants to partner with her but sweet, caring, lovable Corian. These are all issues current refugees face. Even her own team discriminated against her. Do you know how much skill it takes for you to get all of this information in thre chapters??? A lot! I can’t wait to read more.
The only gripe I have is that it’s been done before. The whole “chosen one.” The one everyone bullies and underestimates is the best fighter. Really? This always bothers me. How is that possible no one trained her? Somehow she is the best. A natural. I guess I’m just tired of this. I’m still going to read the book. I’m just saying it’s been done. It’s interesting enough, and different enough for me to want to continue though. I’m here for it!!!
Just from the extended excerpt for Skyhunter, I can tell this book is amazingly written and gripping the entire way through. This being my first Marie Lu book, I am so excited to be able to read the entire thing when it releases and can definitely tell why Marie is so famous and such an amazing author
wow! Marie Lu did an excellent job of setting the scene in this excerpt. After only one chapter I am fully bought in to the geopolitical conflict and deeply curious about the course of the coming battles. Plus, Talin's intriguing background and the brief glimpse we got of the prisoner left me eager to know what comes next for them. I burned through this excerpt in the blink of an eye and cannot wait to read the book itself.
I received this excerpt of Skyhunter by Marie Lu in exchange for a fair and honest review.
When I requested this novel from NetGalley, I didn’t realize it was only sampler. I now know that when this book releases on 9/29/2020, I will need to buy it right away to pick up where these 3 chapters left off! Talin is a refugee In Mara from a nearby country, and due to her athletic skills and inability to speak, has risen to the position of Striker. Strikers and their companion Shields are Mara’s best defense against Ghosts, chemically mutated humans who act as outpost marauders for the Karensa Federation. Talin’s position as a Striker is threatened, and the excerpt comes to a culmination with the capture of an enemy soldier.
Marie Lu’s writing always amazes me - from the Young Elites series to the Warcross series to The Kingdom of Back, she does not stick to one genre or storyline, and I love her books even more because of that.
