Wow wow wow! this is going to be a fantastic book! I loved this sneak peek and I can’t want to see how the story unfolds. I really like the premise of a main character who can’t speak, and I‘m really interested to see how that aspect will work in the full novel. Also, I love the inclusion of real world situations and current events — how Talin and her fellow Strikers experience oppression and cruelty from a fellow race of people, and that element will certainly give this book even more depth than it already has. I’ll certainly be preordering this beauty and I’ll be counting down the days until release.
Wow! This is a preview that will keep you on the edge of your seat. A mute protagonist, in a futuristic society, from a lowly family. Thrust into the fight of her life against an enemy foreign and domestic. I do not want to give much more than that away but Lu, does it again, her writing style, amazing world building, this all leaves you wanting more. I cannot wait for this book to release!
Marie Lu has done it again! This world sounds so interesting but also a bit dark. Talin our main character is one of the all important Ghost hunters. Ghost hunters protect her country of Mara from Ghosts which are humans modified into dangerous creatures. This excerpt leaves you on the edge of your set wanting to know what Talin is worried about. My only complaint is (I will preface that I only took one sign language class in college) that from what I remember in class is that facial expressions are also really important in sign language so the Ghost hunters wearing masks would make that not pretty difficult.
I absolutely love this book! I could not put it down. The story grabs a hold of you, and doesn't let go. Extremely well written. Thank you so very much to be able and read and review this
I received this extended excerpt from NetGalley as an eARC in exchange for a review.
Apparently I need to get better about seeing if something is in a series or an excerpt because I was so sad when I got to the end of this excerpt and there was so much story left untold. I cannot wait to pick up this book at the end of this month and keep reading.
I am very curious to see how well flushed out the signing/being mute is handled in this book.
Marie Lu is truly talented in making me care about characters almost immediately.
I want to withhold much further judgement until I’ve read the full book only because I know lately I have loved those opening of books and then they’ve become somewhat meh further on. I don’t think that this book will have that problem, but you know what they say about assuming.
Holy cow. I've enjoyed Marie Lu's writing for some time now, and thus I knew that I wanted to get my hands on Skyhunter ASAP. Having read the first look of this book (courtesy of NetGalley), all I can say is this: more please!
I'm already completely enthralled by this world, and am finding myself desperate to learn more about it. Not to mention the main character, who's struggle is already breaking my heart. I want to see more of Talin's journey, as well as her battle against the Federation and everything that it encompasses.
So, in short, I am counting down the days until September 29th. It can't get here soon enough!
I was a fan of Marie Lu's previous books the Legend series. This book more intense but has the same quality writing. I look forward to reading the rest and hope this too becomes a series.
Such a great start to the story! I cannot wait to read the rest. Marie Lu never disappoints. The creatures sound terrifying, the world is in shambles and a strong hero. I think this will be a lot of fun! And the cover is very eye catching too.
The only reason that I am not giving this excerpt five stars is because I don't have the rest of the book to read right now. It was slightly cruel to offer a glimpse of what seems to be a promising and wonderful book, and then have it end on a such an enticing part of the story. I love these characters. I love how vulnerable and real Talin is. It's refreshing to see a badass female who isn't completely shut down emotionally. I can't wait to get my hands on the full book because I know it is going to be amazing if this excerpt is any indication.
Marie Lu strikes again! I was immediately drawn into this world and Talin’s story. I cannot wait to pick up a full cop as this chapter sampler made me want more- interesting premise and characters with stellar world building beginnings!
I was only given an excerpt but I'm so hooked already that I need the book. It's so good and the story really reeled me in. I love the writing style. It's engaging. It's not too heavy, especially in the worldbuilding. I love the main character of the story. The worldbuilding is also quite interesting. The book really pulls you in to the story at once and it's just such a thrill to read. I have so many questions about the plot and I'm curious to see what happens next. I'm really excited for the rest of the story and I really believe that this book is promising.
This definitely peaked my interest and now I can’t read the full book. Marie Li is such a great author and it looks like she may have another hit on her hands
This was everything I hoped for and more. Marie has absolutely done it again! I’m praying I get the full version of the book to review because this extended except was amazing. I didn’t want it to be over when I finished it and, whether I get the full version for review or not, I will be getting this book and devouring it ASAP!
I will not be reviewing the full book here, as I only was able to read an extended excerpt that covered the first three chapters. The small part that I got to read had quite a bit of info dump world building, describing the layout of the country and the environment. This wouldn't bother me except for the fact that it comes just as description instead of as the character is witnessing it. For example, if it had been describing what the country looks like while the character consults a map, that would be in the moment instead of just throwing it all out there.
I don't know if I'll be picking up the full book. While I found the premise interesting, there wasn't a lot to hook me in the first three chapters. Right now there are other books out there that I have more interest in at this time, but I think a lot of people will really enjoy this!
I only gave this sampler a try because I have liked Marie Lu's other work. I wasn't particularly interested in this book just based on the summary. However, I'm glad I read the sample. It was well written and really piqued my interest in the story, The world building is unique and well done. I enjoyed Talin's voice as well. I'm definitely interested in reading the rest of this book.
I need the full book now! I am so excited to read this completely and I love Marie Lu and this cover is stunning and I need more NOW.
The queen of YA is backkkk.
Marie Lu's new book follows Talin, a soldier for an elite group that defends their nation from the Federation. With much of the world under the Federation's control, Talin and the Strikers are the only ones who can protect their home from domination.
This little preview was the best thing ever. The first few chapters had great worldbuilding and intense fighting scenes that really capture your attention. The characters all seem super interesting and diverse. There's also heavy elements such as loss, war, and racism.
I'm dying to get my hands on the full book!
I have read only an excerpt and I’m dying to know more. This story sounds absolutely interesting and the idea to make people communicate through signs is so original... even if I still hope Talin will recover and she’ll be able to use her voice again. Even if we see them together for few pages we can immediately understand how deep is the friendship between Corian and Talin (It reminds me of the para stai bond) and my heart aches knowing what happens to him, I felt already attached. The Dystopian worlds created by Marie Lu are always very intriguing but also very dangerous and I can see how brave and badass Talin is for the sole reason she wants to protect a nation that basically rejects her and see her as a foreign. Of course, I can’t wait to see what will happen to the prisoner and if he will be the one who will make her smile again!
I cannot wait to read the full book!
I was hooked from the first line. Immediately we are immersed in high-stakes world-building and set up.
I also barely know Talin, but I love her. I’ve also one read one other book where the character couldn’t speak, and I’m glad to see more sign language representation.
This review is solely for the chapter sampler. The cover of the book is absolutely stunning and immediately caught my attention. As is common with her books, the cover expertly corresponds with the story. I loved this sneak peek and couldn't believe it was over so quickly. Marie Lu is a fantastic author and her books are always so good. I can't wait to see what happens next and will be buying this book.
