This excerpt was an exciting start to a story in which a refugee girl is called upon to protect her new country from genetically altered humans called "ghosts."

Only an excerpt, but I can tell this is going to be an incredible book! I wish there had been more for me to read, but that's just the sign of a fantastic book. As always, Marie Lu has written a winner!

Perfect for fans of Scythe! This is deliciously entertaining, so addictive, and I can't wait to read the rest of the book when it is released!

Overwritten and tedious, and does every YA book have to be written in first person present tense these days? DNF.

This is sooo good so far!! The setup is all there and I’m very interested to see what’s going to happen to Talin. Even though we don’t know him for very long, I’m seriously upset about Corian not making it.

I also really enjoy the descriptive techniques of fights and weapons. Makes it all seem so real. The old world is intriguing as well and I cannot wait to read more about it.

I will not be posting this as this is only for the excerpt. I hope I can read the full book asap!!! And if it helps, please accept my request to read and review the book!!! 😄😄😄

Oh wow, this excerpt came in fast and strong! I wasn't expecting such a visceral journey in such a short section of the book, but Skyhunter by Marie Lu promises to be a thrilling sci-fi/fantasy! I can't wait to read the rest of it and see what happens with Talin's story.

A visceral beginning. Lu immediately immerses you in the story and the world. The first chapter is action-packed and heart-breaking. You only see Corian for a few pages, but I already loved his and Talin’s relationship.

Talin seems like she’s going to be a great main character, too. I’m really interested in the fact that she doesn’t speak and solely signs.

The hint at plot at the end of this excerpt also has me intrigued. I already want to know who the prisoner is and what’s going on.

Really looking forward to finishing this one.

Interesting premise, wish I could read the whole book! I love the fact that the protagonist is mute.

I was thrilled to read the latest Marie Lu book the moment I heard it's coming out. I have heard a lot of good things about the author and I couldn't resist when I saw that an extended excerpt of "Skyhunter" was available for reading. I am glad that I finally got an opportunity to get acquainted with the author.
The first three chapters of "Skyhunter" were beautifully written and I felt connected to the main heroine, Talin. She is a courageous warrior for Mara protecting the country from the Karensa Federation. However, the Federation is not the only enemy that Talin has to fight against; she's a refugee and people of Mara don't treat her kind lightly. As the story progresses, we follow Talin's path through hardships of day-to-day life as well as the battles against the creatures lurking in the forests sent by Federation.
This extended excerpt left me yearning for more and I can't wait for this book to release.

Ok so leaving the excerpt there was cruel.
This is the start of what I expect to be another fantastic story from Marie Lu. Set in what feels like a post apocalyptic earth the mc is an oppressed person rising above her station only to be stopped by tragedy. The opening to this left me looking for more and intrigued to see what will happen next. I find myself envious of those with a full arc. Will be picking this one up in release date without a doubt!

**thank you to NetGalley/publisher for providing me with this extended preview in exchange for an honest review**

There is just something about Marie Lu's writing. It's captivating and compelling, and just draws the reader in immediately with the cadence and voice. I've enjoyed several of her other books, and Skyhunter appears like it will be just as exciting as all the others.

Skyhunter is set in an alternate, apocalyptic world where nations have fallen, free nations are scarce, and warriors are willing to die to defend them against the Federation, a "war machine" hellbent on destroying everything in their path. Talin is a refugee warrior without a voice, barely accepted by the nation she has sought refuge in, who has managed to become a part of the Strikers, an "elite" defense force that is the nation's last hope. The sampler focuses much on her backstory and history with the Strikers, introducing us to her Shield (partner-in-defense), and leaving us at the gripping interrogation of a prisoner that the reader knows nothing about, but definitely knows will have a part in the future of this nation.

Years ago, dystopian/apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic YA was at a high, feeling like every other book coming out was set in this genre. While some stories stood out from the crowd, the genre definitely was inundated and seemingly lost a lot of the originality that gripped all readers at the time. Skyhunter seems like one of those stories that stands out from the crowd. Just the detail of Talin being unable to speak immediately piques an interest, and the reader can't help but build all the scenarios she could find herself in. Then Marie Lu enters in the world, the current state of it, the Strikers, the Ghosts (the Federation's mutant beasts that hunt to destroy the nations), and this mysterious prisoner...each layer just builds more and more anticipation and tension and possibility, and I can tell you, just these 3 chapters left me seriously wanting more!

If the first three chapters are any indication, Skyhunter will be powerful and captivating, with characters that stay with you long after the book finishes, and a world that feels so real (and a bit terrifying) we'll speak about it as though it is. Marie Lu has done it again.

Skyhunter by Marie Lu
Publication Date: September 29, 2020
.
Description From NetGalley...
“A broken world.
An overwhelming evil.
A team of warriors ready to strike back.

#1 New York Times-bestselling author Marie Lu is back with an adrenaline-laced novel about the lengths one warrior will go to fight for freedom and those she loves.

Talin is a Striker, a member of an elite fighting force that stands as the last defense for the only free nation in the world: Mara.

A refugee, Talin knows firsthand the horrors of the Federation, a world-dominating war machine responsible for destroying nation after nation with its terrifying army of mutant beasts known only as Ghosts.

But when a mysterious prisoner is brought from the front to Mara's capital, Talin senses there’s more to him than meets the eye. Is he a spy from the Federation? What secrets is he hiding?

Only one thing is clear: Talin is ready to fight to the death alongside her fellow Strikers for the only homeland she has left . . . with or without the boy who might just be the weapon to save—or destroy—them all.“

My thoughts...
I recently read Marie Lu’s Kingdom of Back and I really enjoyed it. To read a book from her that’s completely different was fantastic. I’m looking forward and excited to read more from her book. Now, I’m hoping that I will be able to get the full version/copy of the book. I’m looking forward and excited to read the complete version.

Marie Lu has always been an author whose work I greatly enjoy, and Skyhunter seems to be no exception from that rule. The extended except really intrigued me and I‘ll definitely pick up the book once it’s released!

I especially love seeing a mute main character in fiction. I think it’s something that’s not done nearly enough and it makes a lot of sense with the general concept of the book. I also appreciate that it seemingly doesn’t shy away from more controversial and mature topics, which is something I absolutely love seeing in YA fiction. The main character already seems very relatable and intriguing, and I‘m incredibly curious to see where her story will take her.

How do I put this? I absolutely adored this book quite a bit, and it's by Marie Lu. She is one of my favorite authors and I'm really excited to read this book when it comes out!

Right from the very first page, I got chills because I didn't know what was happening. And I'm not sure how those monsters will play out later in this and series. But I absolutely can't wait!

And the extended excerpt was so good that I wish it didn't end that quickly!

Excited for the release of Skyhunter. I've read and loved almost all of Marie Lu's series, so Skyhunter will be no exception. I also both love and hate Lu's ability to make me love a character so fast!

Wow!!! I got a sneak peek into the excerpt of Sky Hunter and am officially obsessed with Marie Lu and this series.

Sky Hunter is an emotionally compelling story about one girl’s struggle of being an outsider in an abandoned world on the brink of war. I loved the novelty of a mute lead character being a kickass assassin.

Even though I only got a peek I could immediately tell the plotline was solid and the book was well written. Marie Lu has penned some amazingly, intense characters that drew me into their action-packed world. There was a sweet balance between remorse and acceptance that I am really excited to explore in the full-length novel.

All in all, this sneak peek definitely wet my appetite and Sky Hunter is now firmly on my TBR.

Thank you to Marie Lu, Roaring Book Press, and NetGalley for providing me with an arc of the excerpt.

This was a wonderful extended excerpt. I do feel like there was a lot of information given in a short amount of time so it was a little difficult to keep up with at times. With that being said, I can already tell that it has the amazing world building that I've come to associate Marie Lu with! The extended excerpt definitely left me wanting more and I can't wait to grab my copy of Skyhunter!

What a great excerpt-I was sorry I wasn't able to read the whole book because I loved Marie Lu's Warcross and Wild Card books. I can already tell I'm going to love this one too. A strong female lead! Beautiful writing and world building. Thank you Netgalley and the Publisher for allowing me to read this excerpt!

**I received this three-chapter preview from netgalley in exchange for a review**

I’m probably going to get my YA-fangirl card revoked for this but... this is my first time reading Marie Lu. (As 7 of her books glare at my from my never-ending TBR pile). After reading this excerpt, I REALLY NEED TO FIX THAT. It was soooo good. I basically read the first page and was like OH! And then I finished the chapter and I was like OH.. OH NO! Lu’s the author that makes it hurt? OH YES. Call me a masochist cuz I am here to feel pain.

The world-building in just the first three chapters was superb. I can't wait to discover more. I'm also already invested in several of the characters, despite knowing little about them. When I hit the end, I kept swiping because I was in denial that I didn't have any more left to read. I'm about to pre-order this right now.
