Skyhunter - EXTENDED EXCERPT
by Marie Lu
I wish i had more of this to read, what a fantastic start to the story. I am addicted already, but will have to see how it winds up. Thank you for letting me start the adventure.

Thank you, publisher, and NetGalley for this sample/excerpt. I'm looking forward to checking out this latest novel by Marie Lu. I wish this was more than an excerpt because I wanted to read/review the title.

I was allowed to read an excerpt of this book, specifically the first three or so chapters of the book. Originally, I didn't have this in my TBR before I joined NetGalley but I had a couple of Lu's books on my TBR so I gave it shot. From the excerpt, it wasn't had, it was alright. It's hard for me to get emotional attachments to characters right away so anything that happened to the main character in the first little bit I read, it didn't affect me overly much. I'll personally probably see how other people think of the book when released/when other people review it to see if I'll read it in it's entirety.

While I was only able to read a chapter, it seems like a good start for Marie Lu. I can’t wait to be able to read it

I only read a chapter sampler. Seems to be the start of another fantastic series from Lu.
I am grateful the book comes out later this month so I don't have too long to wait!

I haven’t read this yet only because I’m scared of spoiling myself but I have already preordered this title because Marie Lu and also because this book sounds amazing. I can’t wait to dive in!

It had me hooked from the beginning! I don’t know what’s to come but I can tell it’s going to be a thrilling ride. I cannot wait to read the rest of the book when it comes out at the end of the month.

A great, quick preview into the novel. I loved the dystopian and war-torn world the novel is set in. The preview was too quick to truly get into the novel. I didn't know it was a excerpt at the time I requested it (my fault for not fulling reading the title) as I wouldn't have requested it. I plan to read the full novel as soon as it becomes available from my library.

In a post-apocalyptic world, Mara is the last remaining free nation. It is protected by elite warriors called Strikers who are trained to fight against the Ghosts; people who have been corrupted by the Federation into creatures that constantly regenerate and can kill with a bite. When a defecting Federation soldier is captured, Talin, a refugee who fled to Mara with her mother and now a member of the Strikers, senses there is more to him than meets the eye.
The provided excerpt shows glimpses of an interesting world and heroine. Talin is mute and communicates using sign language, which isn't something you often see in the main character. In the world that Marie Lu created, refugees are discriminated against. They are considered low class citizens, live in the slumps and are not allowed to join the strikers. An exception was made for Talin because a high-class citizen asked for her to be his partner. This feels very relevant in the current landscape of the world.
I'm definitely interested to see which direction this story ends up taking.

I ADORE Marie Lu, and this book was one of my most anticipated for the year before I even knew what it was about!
But from the sample chapters from Netgalley, I know I was right. We get right into the action, as Marie etches out her fantasy world without over explaining everything. The level of detail is just right, and you feel completely immersed in this world.
Talin is a bad-ass warrior of a main character, and her friends are well defined. The added mystery of the unknown prisoner of war is super intriguing, and I can't wait to see where this goes!

It took exactly three chapters of this book to convince me to preorder it immediately.
I have only ever read one other book of Lu’s, The Kingdom of Back, and her writing impressed me greatly. With only a fraction of this book for me to judge, I am already rooting for the main character and impressed with the world in which she lives and mourn for her loved one(s) that she has lost.
Talin, the main character, is unable to communicate with her voice, and as a main character who will dominate much of how the story is told, this novel will make for an interesting (and enjoyable) discovery of ways to incorporate communication through sign and body language and facial expressions. Lu artfully speaks with Talin and avoids relying heavily on the narrator to do the work for her. She also portrays Talin is such a balanced way: vulnerable while incredibly tough, brave while still fearful, and skilled beyond her peers while maintaining humility that is not false.
This book will most assuredly go on my personal shelf as well as my classroom shelf; I will also make sure my local library has a copy.
I always hate when books like this are due to be published during my favorite months of the year; the anticipation for them gives me an eagerness to make the time go by in a way that also seems to diminish my enjoyment of the autumn weather taking its time and sticking around for a while.
Oh, well.
My thanks to NetGalley for the extended preview, for which I give my own opinion.

As always, Marie Lu never disappoints. What I read was pure Marie Lu prose. The world building is amazing and the writing is so artful and really draws a picture for the reader. To me this feels like a post-apocalyptic land, Mara, that is in the middle of a huge war with the "Federation" (total domination) and there is the class separations/struggles too. It reminds me of a mash-up of the Movies/TV shows/books Dark Angel, Falling Skies, Partials, and Elysium; all brought together beautifully in this story.

Marie Lu’s writing and world building are both incredible, and Skyhunter is no exception. This excerpt was action packed, character driven and so well written! I can’t wait to read the rest of the book.

From the beginning of the excerpt Marie Lu hooks you with heartbreak. She has continued to build a similar dystopian world and characters that I can't wait to learn more about.

This excerpt promises an intriguing dystopian sci-fi full of vivid writing full of substance. While I was taken aback discovering that this was an excerpt rather than the full book, I like the glimpse of the story it provides. Only about 50 pages in, and the plot already goes to overdrive. This book sounds like it is going to be a strong one, as Marie Lu's previous books have been.

I can already tell from this short excerpt that this book will be everything I hoped it would be, and the publication date can absolutely not come soon enough.
Marie Lu's dystopian settings are incredible, and this book is clearly no different. From only a short section, I'm completely invested in the new world that she has created, and already fascinated by Talin, Adena, Jeran and the mysterious prisoner.
Heartbreaking from the offset, I'm terrified and excited to see how this plays out, and can't wait to see if Marie Lu has written yet another of my all-time favourite YA novels.

I wish this was a full copy. I didn't realize it wasn't but what I read was good. Can't wait for a full copy.

Dystopian and sci-fi mix that I couldn’t put down!
Thanks to NetGalley and MacMillan Publishing for the opportunity to read and review Marie Lu’s newest book, Skyhunter!
Talin lost her ability to speak years ago when the Federation attacked her home and her vocal cords were burned by a chemical they released. She learned sign language, along with her mother, so they could communicate. She becomes a Striker, a Maran soldier that fights the Federation, and she’s extremely good at it. She becomes a Striker because another soldier saw her worth and helped and supported her. His name was Corian and he has a wonderful, strong set of values and character. The two of them make a fantastic fighting team together. A Federation soldier finds his way to Mara, causing suspicion, since no one knows whether or not he’s a spy. The minute Red arrives, the danger from the Federation amps up. This dystopian book opens up a new series that promises suspense, action, intrigue and an array of interesting characters, 5 stars!

Huh. That was actually pretty good!! I have a weird relationship with marie lu books because her ideas are always so good but she doesnt really execute then well and does them in such a basic way. But even after only read these first few chapters, I know this one will be different.

What an awesome start! The sampler was great and I didn't want it to end. I'm really excited for this to come out..
