This excerpt promises an intriguing dystopian sci-fi full of vivid writing full of substance. While I was taken aback discovering that this was an excerpt rather than the full book, I like the glimpse of the story it provides. Only about 50 pages in, and the plot already goes to overdrive. This book sounds like it is going to be a strong one, as Marie Lu's previous books have been.
I can already tell from this short excerpt that this book will be everything I hoped it would be, and the publication date can absolutely not come soon enough.
Marie Lu's dystopian settings are incredible, and this book is clearly no different. From only a short section, I'm completely invested in the new world that she has created, and already fascinated by Talin, Adena, Jeran and the mysterious prisoner.
Heartbreaking from the offset, I'm terrified and excited to see how this plays out, and can't wait to see if Marie Lu has written yet another of my all-time favourite YA novels.
I wish this was a full copy. I didn't realize it wasn't but what I read was good. Can't wait for a full copy.
Dystopian and sci-fi mix that I couldn’t put down!
Thanks to NetGalley and MacMillan Publishing for the opportunity to read and review Marie Lu’s newest book, Skyhunter!
Talin lost her ability to speak years ago when the Federation attacked her home and her vocal cords were burned by a chemical they released. She learned sign language, along with her mother, so they could communicate. She becomes a Striker, a Maran soldier that fights the Federation, and she’s extremely good at it. She becomes a Striker because another soldier saw her worth and helped and supported her. His name was Corian and he has a wonderful, strong set of values and character. The two of them make a fantastic fighting team together. A Federation soldier finds his way to Mara, causing suspicion, since no one knows whether or not he’s a spy. The minute Red arrives, the danger from the Federation amps up. This dystopian book opens up a new series that promises suspense, action, intrigue and an array of interesting characters, 5 stars!
Huh. That was actually pretty good!! I have a weird relationship with marie lu books because her ideas are always so good but she doesnt really execute then well and does them in such a basic way. But even after only read these first few chapters, I know this one will be different.
What an awesome start! The sampler was great and I didn't want it to end. I'm really excited for this to come out..
So much emotions! I was very excited when I was downloading to my Kindle. I have not read anything by Marie Lu previously but her novels have generated a lot of buzz so this author has been on my radar for some time. What better way to start than to read the latest and greatest. Like many others, I was disappointed to find out that this was an extended excerpt and not the full novel. The disappointment grew by the end of the excerpt because the little that I read was so fantastically great!
I can see why Marie Lu’s books have been so popular. Her writing is so vivid and full of substance. I love how she paints these detailed scenes and environments in Newage. The amount of emotion in the few chapters that I read was mind-blowing. The emotional pain that Talin goes through is so heavy and only get heavier when she meets Corian’s family. I am captivated by this world that Marie Lu has crafted and I look forward to reading the full novel.
I absolutely loved this sampler! I cannot wait for the full book to be published. Marie Lu never dissapoints.
Kind of upset because no where in the title or description does it say this is only a sample of a few chapters, so I thought I was getting the entire book...
But it's a promising start. Release day can't come soon enough!
This sneak peek introduces us to Talin, a Striker who fights Ghosts inflicted on her home by the Federation. When Talin’s best friend and Shield is killed on her watch, she finds herself in disgrace and her place as a Striker in jeopardy.
I liked getting a glimpse into this story. This does a good job in letting us know Talin, her past and her character. I liked her a lot. I also loved getting in her emotions. As always, Lu has a great writing style. I just wish this sneak peek gave me a glimpse as to where the plot is going.
The extended sample ended on such a cliffhanger! I will admit, the writing didn't quite capture my attention till chapter 2 but now I need to know what is going to happen!
I didn't know this was a chapter sampler and now I can not wait to read more. Mari Lu's writing is so good and captivating. I will definitely read this book.
The extended excerpt for Skyhunter left me yearning for more! I absolutely loved the world building and plot set up. I already love Talin as the heroine. She exudes strength and courage. Excited to finish this one when it’s available.
So I wasn’t actually aware that this was a chapter sampler and not the whole book. However, from what I read I can already tell that Marie Lu’s writing has developed a lot since she wrote the Legend trilogy and I would definitely be interested in checking out the full book.
I don’t feel as though I can really rate this since it wasn’t the whole book so I’m going to set it as an even 3 stars.
Omggg, this is my first Marie Lu book, and reading this chapter sampler I cannot wait to read further.
It's so captivating and engaging.

Oh boy, I really wish this was the whole book and not just an excerpt from NetGalley. I can’t wait to read the whole book if it’s anything like the first chapter! So good!!
this was just a sampler but it left me really intrigued and marie lu is a favoruite of mine and her writing is so simple and straight to the point whilst also managing to be lyrical and enhancting, i can't wait to see how this book pans out!
full rtc when i finish the whole book
All this did was whet my appetite for the whole story!! I didn't realize this was just an extended excerpt. I think Marie Lu has another hit on her hands.
Full disclosure, before I begin this review, I have to admit, I thought I was getting the whole book. That being said, the first three chapters were so epic that my disappointment was only heightened by having to stop reading.
Marie Lu does it again with epic world building. In just three chapters, she established a fascinating world, dynamic characters, and a society filled to the brim with secrets and, I hope, conspiracies. I've been a fan of Marie Lu's writing since I read LEGEND in 2014 but I think SKYHUNTER has the potential to be her best book to date.
I also loved the use of sign-language representation in the story as well as her ability to describe the conversations that Talin has despite being unable to speak.
I am so eager to know more about this world and Talin's journey. I can't wait to keep reading when the book comes out.
I can't wait for this book to be released! Marie Lu is such a great author and this is sounds like it's going to be another awesome book. The cover looks amazing and the first 50 page preview makes me want to read it even more. Within just these 3 short chapters I was drawn to Talin and the action has already started. Love it!
