This book definitely was a showstopper for me. This was a non stop dystopian adventure. Talin and her fellow friends and comrades have to defend their nation Mara - and they fight for Mara non stop. There is a big development called the Federation who they are defending their land against. This is a sci fi novel that I wasn't sure I would enjoy, but I have enjoyed novels by Marie Lu such as Warcross and Wildcard, and I am glad I gave this a chance. I loved it. This was action packed which made me fly through the novel.
Great sampler- longer than usual and ended on a cliffhanger!
It has a familiar feel to Light Years and Aurora Burning but with a different angle. Looking forward to the rest of the book.
Dear Books Lovers,
this today will not be a real review, rather an opinion, and the review of the first 50 pages of the new book by Marie Lu, author of the Legend trilogy, sent to me by the publisher via Netgally as a preview, since the book is not yet released in the original language.
Usually if it’s a preview I don’t write anything on the blog waiting to be able to read the complete book, but this time I had to make an exception because unlike The young elites that I had started reading and never completed it because I wasn’t liking it, I liked Skyhunter from the very first pages in fact when I finished the three chapters foreseen in the preview I would have loved to continue reading, but I know that I will have to wait until the release which is scheduled for September 29th.
Like every other book by this author, the protagonist has a flaw, in the young elite it was a scar, in Legend I don’t know because I never read them, but here the protagonist is deaf and uses sign language to communicate. And as I could see she is a pretty Badass protagonist. Almost at the beginning of the book she loses her best friend and sidekick. They are “warriors” and following a patrol he dies. And it is in this moment that Talin believes she has lost everything she has always fought for. She immigrated to that land and the only one who ever fought for her has always been Corian and now he’s dead.
But the real story begins when a prisoner arrives in town. And it is precisely following this arrival that my preview was over, and it is precisely of that prisoner that the plot that I leave you below is about.
It could also be that as the book progresses it loses it’s beauty, become slow etc, but from the beginning that I have been able to read I see great potential in this story and I don’t think it will turn out to be boring or anything, far from it. Plus, the English in this story is quite basic that it could be read by anyone with some knowledge of the language. I would say that Marie Lu has conquered me this time and I can’t wait for the book to come out so I can buy it and read it, I can’t wait to know how it ends.
I thought this book was soild read. I really liked the characters and found the rag tag group of heroes to be a fun concept. I also thought he world was a fun one with a mix fantsay and also science fiction elements. I really liked the characters. I also though this book was super fast paced. But i struggled a bit with the plot and especially towards the end. I liked this book, it did not wow me. But i will still check out the sequel!!
Although this was just an extended excerpt I can’t wait to read the rest of the book. Marie Lu creates such elaborate worlds that you can’t help but get sucked into them.
Enjoyed the preview! From what I read, it's not going to be my favorite Marie Lu fantasy, but it'll still be decent!
I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Marie Lu is a literary goddess that walks among us mere mortals. It was amazing. Just.. perfection on the page.
Thank you kindly to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for this review copy.
This was a short preview that made me want to read the whole book. The storyline falls into my favorite genre so i was definitely excited about it.
I received this preview from NetGalley for an honest review.
Marie Lu’s latest fantasy, action-thriller will keep young teens turning pages. As an adult, I kept reading to see what would happen, but I wasn’t super charmed with the world building in this one, and the Strikers successes seemed to come too easily. I thought her previous novels were better. This is the first in a series and my opinion may change as the series develops.
A interesting, badass and fun preview. I was a bit sad it was just a preview, but i added this to my TBR nontheless.
Skyhunter is a book about Talin who is a Striker or basically a warrior from Mara, the last free nation in the world; and her journey in fighting off the ghosts from the Karensa federation who was the invader of all the other nations. Talin is actually just an outsider from Mara because her real home was already conquered by the federation. But even though she's just an outsider, her dedication to helping Mara to stay as a free nation is commendable. She even proved this even further when a mysterious prisoner from Karensa was brought to Mara's front. Talin sensed that there's more to this prisoner than what meets the eye. They don't really know if this prisoner is a spy from the federation, but Talin took a risk in finding out more about this prisoner. Then the wild, adventurous, and action-packed story starts from there.
As a Marie Lu fan, I can say that Marie Lu's writing style is still something that can still put me at the edge of my seat! This book has been mysterious enough that it kept me reading page after page, chapter after chapter. It has all the emotions I wanted to feel in a sci-fi dystopian. She did really well in building the world, introducing the characters, and making the reader build up much anticipation of what's gonna happen next. And if it isn't obvious yet, I really loved this book and I gave it 5 out of 5 stars.
This was a fun preview that made me want to read the whole book. The premise is right up my alley. So much so that I ended up purchasing the book.
Finally, I can say Marie Lu is back. If you follow me, you know that The kingdom of Back was a hard read for me. Thankfully, this book is amazing.
Skyhunter introduces a new series based on an ongoing war between two cities, one of them possessing the Ghosts, humans turned to undefined evil creatures. We follow Talin, Adena and Jeran trying to save their city fighting ghosts with the help of a Skyhunter, Red, escaped from the Federation (the one possessing Ghosts).
I literally loved everything in this book, characters were well developed, plot wise it was great and original. I can’t wait for the next book, because what a finale! I wish they were not teenagers and that it was not a YA, I think she cold have explored more of both world and characters.
Final vote: 4,5/5
I love almost everything Marie Lu writes and this was no exception. Skyhunter crosses genres, at first I thought dystopian, then science fiction, and maybe fantasy? I love how she has undertones of current social issues in a futuristic society. I can't wait to see what happens next in the series.
You know that moment when you’re reading a book and the main character comes up with the absolute worse plan in the world? And you want to scream holy crap! This is not going to work! No! Don’t do this stupid thing! You could DIIIEEEEE! But... then you remember who wrote the book so then you think oh nooo who’s going to die? So I sat back and let myself enjoy the ride. And boy... at one point I was like you sonofagun y’all might actually survive this then boom 💥 when is the next book out because I need this next book. That being said... I went through a lot of emotions in this book. Even the first chapter hit me right in the chest. I immediately texted my bffs vaguely (no spoilers) about it.
There is a cliffhanger for those who hate cliffhangers and waiting.
Thank you, NetGalley and the publishers for sending me this excerpt!
Marie Lu surprises me every time. Every one of her fictional worlds is unique and Skyhunter is no different. The technological aspects of her world-building never cease to stop amazing me. It was fast-paced and brilliant. I was really sad once the first three chapters were over I cannot wait to read more of the book!
I read the extended excerpt of the book.
The book is a work of dystopian fiction. Mara is one of the last remaining free nations which have not fallen under the control of Karensa Federation. The MC Talin Kanami is a Striker, Mara’s fighting force against the mutant creatures of the Federation known as Ghosts.
I got to read just 3 chapters of the book but a lot is already happening during these pages. It consisted of not just the world building but also some important events for the MC. The pace of the book is good so far & the characters are all quite interesting. I am definitely very curious now to see how the story progresses ahead. Hoping to get my hands on the complete book soon so that I can read further.
Disclaimer: Thanking Netgalley & the publishers for providing me with an excerpt of the book in exchange of an honest review. The thoughts expressed in the review are completely my own.
I absolutely love Marie Lu -- she has some of the best worldbuilding and characters I fall in love with. This was a really nice blend of fantasy and dystopian, without feeling too far either direction. There were also some really cool technology aspects she explored, which is a common theme for her and I am here for it.
I recommend going into this one blind and just enjoying it, but warning this has a cliffhanger ending!
Marie Lu does it again with another page-turning YA SFF. I enjoyed not only the main characters, but the side characters. I hope there's another book soon!!
Okay, this was super insanely cool?! I had such a fun time reading this book. I admittedly haven't read a Marie Lu book since I read Legend way back in the day but this was such a wonderful way to dive back into her writing!
