This is the second book in the series. I enjoyed it as much as the first one. The plot moves along and holds your interest. As in the first book. Charlotte Lucky finds herself unlucky. She is still running the Lucky distillery and taking care of her grandfather. Much to her dismay, her ex boyfriend from Hollywood shows up and then gets murdered. Brodie Gett is determined to help her prove that she didn't do it. Their chemistry is fun to be a part of. Their banter is so natural and funny. The Lucky family and the Gett family are competitors in the whiskey business. Can they find peace and be friends or maybe even more? Charlotte and Brodie make a good team while investigating the murder. Will they ever lean to trust each other? I am looking forward to book three.
Still as Death was an entertaining read with fleshed out characters and an interesting setting due to the whiskey distilleries, even if I suspect it's rare to find two whiskey distilleries in a small Florida town (if it was rural Kentucky, I think it would be more plausible). Still as Death has a faster pace than the first book in this series and I found it fun to read how the relationship between Brodie and Charlie developed.
It's an easy read and well suitable to read during the summer.
This second installment in the Lucky mysteries has Charlotte involved in the murder of her ex boyfriend from Hollywood. I thought it weird that he was referred to as from Hollywood and not LA. This book overall came across as flat and uneffective to me. I could never get a good feeling of the town or the people in it. There were few extra characters to add to the story line. Sometimes these extraneous people are what make the quirks of a story come alive but not this one. It felt as if the author was writing about a place that she had never been before. Locating not one but two whiskey distilleries in a very small town in rural Florida is odd. And all the talk about the alligators was surprising for someone who supposedly grew up living next to them. The investigation that Charlotte and Boone carry out meandered for awhile. The ending was kind of a slam. The culprits are thrown at you so abruptly and so tangentially that it is a bit implausible. It was an okay cozy but it was just off to me
I think this instalment is better than the first in this series and I liked Charlotte better.
It's a highly enjoyable and entertaining read, the cast of characters is fleshed and the solid mystery kept me guessing.
Can't wait to read the next instalment.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
New authot for me. I had both in this series read in day. I highly recommend this author and series.
Charlotte Lucky is surprised to have her Hollywood boyfriend show up to her grandfather’s birthday party. She’s even more surprised to find him dead the next morning.
I enjoyed this 2nd mystery in the Lucky Whiskey series. I enjoy the characters and there’s a surprise ending.
Continuing the adventures of Charlotte, this second book in this series is just as good, if not better, than the first one. A cozy mystery with a twist, you might want to sit down with this book along with a good bourbon or whisky. I received an e-book from NetGalley in return for an unbiased review.
I loved coming back to the A Lucky Whisky Mystery series, and 'Still as Death' was as great at the first book. Everything to do with Gett, Florida is intriguing and hilarious, with some dark complications like a former Hollywood boyfriend's proposal thrown in. 'Charm' Lucky is delightful, and her relationship with Brodie Gett is fun, even though she is clueless. There are resolutions in the story, but with many set-ups for future visits. I, for one, can't wait. I highly, highly recommend this entire series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
Book 2 in the Lucky Whiskey series, and the added age is as good for the series as it is for whiskey. Charlotte Lucky is surprised when her former Hollywood boyfriend shows up in Gett, Florida to ask for her hand in marriage, and then even more surprised when he turns up dead. Of course, she is forced to accept the help of Grodie Brodie Gett to clear her name. Fun summertime reading!
Thanks to Beyond the Page Publishing for access to a digital ARC via NetGalley.
I enjoyed this more than the first book. It was faster paced and there were enough twists to keep me guessing. Hopefully the author will work out Charlotte and Brodie’s relationship in the next book because dancing around each other will get old fast.
Murder In The Mix.....
Book two in the Lucky Whiskey Mystery series finds Charlotte Lucky busy with the distillery, preparing for her grandfathers’ big birthday bash and fending off a marriage proposal. Got her hands full?.... She really does when a murder is added to this mix. Entertaining cosy mystery, with twists and turns along the way and a colourful cast of characters. Great fun.
I need these two to get together already! Besides that, I greatly enjoyed this book and the series is definitely a new favourite of mine; can’t wait to see what happens next! But seriously, just have them get together already, they can keep bantering even if they’re together!
In Still as Death by J.A. Kazimer, Charlotte Lucky "Charms" is settling back into life in Gett, Florida. Grandpa Jack is turning 75 and the town turns out to celebrate. Charlotte's former flame, the famous Marcus Savage, arrives in town and proposes to Charms. Before she knows what is happening a death takes place, stealing Marcus's thunder and putting an end to Jack's celebration. When Marcus is found dead, Charlotte and "Grodie" Brodie Gett team up again to solve another murder.
I enjoyed catching up with the residents of Gett and seeing Charlottle and Brodie get closer, just like Grandpa Jack and Rue Gett . The ending opens up possibilities for more arguments and more moments between Charlotte and Brodie, hopefully moments not only focused on murder investigations.
Thank you to Net Galley, the publisher Midnight Ink and J.A. Kazimer for the opportunity to read an ARC of this book..

Even though I read book one yesterday, I still think that this one could easily stand alone because it answers any background questions even as they arise. We're with Charlotte, her grandfather, and their distillery in rural nowheresville and it starts with a grand birthday celebration until the local banker unexpectedly drops dead while Charlotte is unknowingly getting an engagement ring from a former acquaintance. Say what? She was busy seeing a man die right before her while the Hollywood doofus is busy making tabloid news and totally missed his putting a ring with a large diamond on her finger. The next day she has a row with said doofus as she tries to return the ring and he gets nasty. The day after that, the sheriff needs a few words with her because the doofus has been blunt force traumaed to death. The next thing you know her childhood nemesis is unwillingly helping her investigate because he seems to be in the frame as well. Good fun and good sleuthing complete with red herrings and plot twists and some good laughs along the way. I loved it!

Charlotte Lucky’s ex boyfriend arrives from Hollywood and she is shocked to see him, as she thought they were over when she left him to head home for good. Before she knows it, Charlotte is accidentally engaged to Marcus and can’t seem to break it off...or get the ring off her hand. When Marcus is found murdered in his hotel room though, the engagement is finally off...while Charlotte and Brodie are both on the suspect list.
I enjoyed reading the first book in the series early last year and was thrilled to see the second entry finally hit. A quick and easy read that will leave you wanting more!
