This is a lovely sweet companion to How to Get Mummy to sleep. It’s nice that a Dad is shown getting his nails painted and showing a loving relationship with his daughter. This is a very Christian book and includes a prayer for a father and child to share.
The illustrations are beautiful and really add to this sweet little book, I think it would be a great wordless book to gift to a Dad for Father’s Day for non Christian families as well as a lovely prayer to share for families practicing Christianity.
Thank you to Netgalley for the chance to read and review this book.
In general I really like this story and the illustrations. The rhyme and the rhythm work well. However, at my library this would be put in with “inspirational” books and not read at story time because of all the references to god. There are four, and while they are simple and non-specific, they are there and would put this squarely in the no pile for public story time. However, it would be great for Sunday school, or parochial schools.
Cute story that parents will enjoy sharing with their children. The book has a strong family friend positive message that will appeal to parents.
Such a cute read! my son really enjoyed reading this with me! This would make a great addition to anyone's collection of children books.
This is a cute little story that Dad and daughter will enjoy reading together. The sweet rhyming makes for a cute read that walks your daughter through all the ways she can help Dad with his chores as well as ways to love on him. My favorite is the prayer at the end of the story. Mom or Dad can read this story about getting daddy to sleep with the heart to create an appreciation for all dad does.
I read this book to my 5 year old and he wasn't very engaged but I feel he really appreciates the prayer at the end. Also, I would love to see a boy version of this story. For example, "He'll (dad will) need some jewelry and a hat"--daughters who love to play dress up will resonate with this, boys will not.
Thank you Netgalley for this advance copy to read with my children and give honest feedback. The opinions stated here are honest and purely my own.
The same goes for this as the "How to Get a Mommy to Sleep" book.
Not something I really personally would give the readers in the age range for this book since I kinda don't agree with it. But this is a humorous goofy tale of a child putting Mommy to bed.
I voluntarily received and reviewed a complimentary e/copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
Such a fun book for a bedtime story! Also would be a great gift for fathers day!! Super easy to ready & great illustrations perfect for littles to read along with dad.
How to get daddy to sleep by Amy Parker is just as great as her other book how to get mommy to sleep. We love this fun book at bedtime. The illustrations are wonderful as well. I recommend this book.
My kids and I all loved reading How to Get a Daddy to Sleep! The book follows a little girl as she "helps" her daddy throughout his day. From helping him pick out an outfit, to gardening, to a bedtime prayer, each page is filled with fun pictures and cute poems. I thought the prayer at the end was especially sweet as she prays for her daddy. This would be a fun one for daddies to read to their little ones.

We read this one as a bedtime story, but it was really just a fun story about a little girl and her dad spending the day together. Dad is very busy, so when he is not working, you need to make the most of your time together. From morning coffee/milk to playing dress-up, going for a walk and helping with chores, this little girl and her dad are busy and happy together. After a very busy day together, it is time to sing daddy a lullaby, say your prayers, snuggle up together, kiss goodnight and both fall asleep. My granddaughter identified with this story as her daddy is a stay at home father. They do a lot of these things together and she laughed as we not only read the story, but talked about things she and her daddy do. It was nice to end with bedtime rituals as I put her to bed when we finished reading this one. The illustrations showed the fun they had with emotions evident on their faces. There was action depicted in bright colour and large illustrations.
This is such a fun book to pick up at bedtime! We enjoy using it during out bedtime routine. Thank you so much for this gem!
This is a cute story about a little girl trying to make her father's day as great as it can be.
When the dad returns home from work, the child has some great ideas to spend quality time with her father, having planned lots of fun activities, such as playing dress up, watching sports on TV and reading stories before going to bed.
I liked the message and how cute that father-daughter relationship was. At the beginning of the story, the father is shown as tired, coming home from work, but once he sees his kid, the tiredness goes away. And it does serve as a reminder to adults that actually spending time with their kids, is important to strengthening the bond between them.
The illustrations are also cute and funny and I think I'm gonna give some credit to the artist for showing the father doing some traditionally feminine things, such as wearing women's accessories and getting his toenails painted. I don't know if that's what the author actually intended to show (more on that later) but who cares, it's still lovely.
By the way, can you guess why I have my doubts as to if the author actually intended to show a man dressing up as a woman?
Don't worry, I'll help you. Because, again, similar to almost every other children's books I read these last months, this is heavily religious. It starts off slowly by calling dads 'a gift from god' and climaxes on a prayer that kids are supposed to say before sleep in order for god to protect them and their family.
Need I mention it again? Not everyone believes in the Bible God, indoctrination is bad, skip the religious stuff while reading that to your kids and focus on the actual message etc. etc.
Other than that, I enjoyed it for what it was. Plus, I loved the family pet that follows the main characters around.
This is now my husband's go to book to read to our twins at nightime. It is so cute and sweet with funny illustrations. We can read it over and over and not get tired of it.
A sweet relational book on a child and father. Children can forget that fathers need their rest too especially when it is filled with spending the day with their children playing, learning, and living.
Each page is sweet and will encourage a father and his children. The book ends with a prayer a child can say for his father! Learning to appreciate what fathers do!
A special thank you to Thomas Nelson and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
I enjoyed this Christian children's book. I liked that it focused on the father spending the entire day with the child and that is what led to the father being so tired that he fell asleep with the child at night. I will say that in these stories the father did outside type of chores with the child such as gardening and washing the car. I would have liked to see the father doing "inside" chores like cleaning and cooking. It just would give the child a sense that fathers help around in the inside of the house too. But overall a lovely book.
What does a daddy do at home on his days off? Roles reverse and a little girl takes care of Daddy from early morning until time to go to bed, and you can bet the grownup will be ready for some sleep. A unique way to help children appreciate and be thankful for dad.
I admire the author’s gift for storytelling in rhythm and rhyme but these falter in several spots. Having a young boy in the story as well as the little girl might have appealed more to boy readers. “A Bedtime Prayer for Daddy & Me” at the end is a sweet way to end the book.
This has some nice moments between the child and the daddy. I especially loved the little Noah's Ark bathtub scene!
I'm not sure about the nail polish scene. I'm not sure many guys would appreciate that. (I know that even I wouldn't really appreciate a child doing my nails! Although, as a child, I would have found that great fun.)
I liked the prayer at the end of the story.

How to get a daddy to sleep is another beautiful book in this collection by Amy Parker and Natalia Moore.
These books are adorable. In how to get a daddy to sleep it shows how children can do things to spend time with their daddys and how they can be helpful. The child's help in the story is more of a hindering help to the daddy in the story and tires him out but shows how parents do anything for their children no matter how tiring.
These are beautiful books for parents to share with their children and include a lovely bedtime prayer at the back of each book.
A simple and sweet story with very cute illustrations. My husband loved reading this to our daughter before her bedtime!
A Daddy and His Loving Little Girl
This is another sweet book by this author in a similar vein as her mommy book of nearly the same title. In this one, the little girl is sharing with a friend how to get a daddy to sleep. Some ideas include allowing Daddy to rest throughout the day, helping him with chores, and even going to a game with him. The illustrations are cute and show the joy the little girl has being with her dad. Dad is pretty indulgent, as he lets her put jewelry on him and paint his toenails! I can't imagine my dad letting me do that when I was that age. The bedtime portion is charming, as Dad sings a lullaby, and they fall asleep with hugs and kisses. As with the mommy book, this one has strong Christian themes, mentioning God in the story as well as having a prayer at the end. All in all, I thought this was a lovely book about a father and daughter enjoying their day together.
