For the Crown by Melissa Ricketts
Rating: ★★★★☆

For the Crown by Melissa Ricketts was a solid read for me, engaging me with its intriguing plot and well-developed characters. The blend of adventure and political intrigue was particularly enjoyable, creating a compelling narrative that kept me hooked. The protagonist's journey was well-paced, allowing for gradual character development and deeper exploration of their motivations and challenges. Ricketts’ writing style is descriptive yet accessible, vividly portraying courtly intrigue and daring escapades. The relationships between the main character and supporting cast added depth, evolving amidst power struggles and secrets. This was a really enjoyable fantasy with a great premise, I loved the dragons and thought this was a great addition to the story!

I liked this book. I will read anything with dragons, and humans can shapeshift into dragons? Yes please! The plot was more on the predictable side than I would have liked, but i still enjoyed it. I also wasn't a huge fan of the romance with Tristan, but overall this was a fun read!

This book started out great but went downhill fast. That might be because the things I didn't mind so much at the beginning really started to bother me towards the end, because I realized those things weren't going to change ; an annoying main character being one of those things. This book was also really predictable which is fine, but I at least expect some excitement, which for the most part just wasn't the case.

with that said was this a bad book? No not at all, it was quite decent actually, just had the potential to be so much more than it was, and I can't help feeling disappointed about that.

overall an okay yet disappointing read for me.

It reminded me of the Bachelorette meets the Selection series. A book where the main character has a lot of growing to do, but don't we all.

This was really good! Lena and Tristan was so good as characters, but their chemistry was off the radar. Plus the whole dragon consept was done beautifully!

Thanks so much to #NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review For the Crown in exchange for an honest review.

I was approved for this book on #NetGalley months ago and thought I missed downloading the book prior to it being archived, but I found the ARC this past week and am so happy I was still able to read it. I LOVE the concept / idea behind this book series and can’t wait to read the sequel when it’s published.

The book had a strong start and my immediate reaction was that the early parts of the book reminded me of a fantasy version of The Selection series... plus there are DRAGONS 🐉😍. I really liked the idea of the human-form-Dragons and some of this in a different way reminded me of Avatar. This series has so much potential as the world / concept felt original with lots of room to grow expand on the world. The main character Lena is young, silly, naive and sweet and her voice and point of view are geared towards a younger YA audience than some YA reads (aka clean PG read) and I’d recommend this novel to every lover of YA fantasy. Some of how Lena talks / the story is written actually remind me of how I felt reading Throne of Glass book number one so I can’t wait to see what happens in book number 2 of the Dragonwall Royals series.

I think what mainly held this back from being a 5-star read for me is that the lead characters voice was a little too young / naive for my tastes BUT I think her voice fits with a teenager or even a book I would have adored in middle school.
I also didn’t like the title of the chapters as they gave too much of the story away. For example the chapter titles “Daryn’s Beating” or “Tristan Goes Away”... I knew what was going to happen in those chapters so it spoiled it for me a bit.

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨(SO close to 4-stars!)

I really enjoyed this story! The plot was engaging, the characters fun and interesting, and it kept me hooked the whole way through. The biggest issue I had was with the pacing...I really felt like it could have been a few books, rather than just one. It just seemed to jump so quickly from the failed Bachelorette-esque part, to the tournament and other events. Thus, while I really enjoyed the characters and thought that Lena had a lot of character development, I would have enjoyed seeing it more in the others, and more of the other characters in general, however, there just isn't enough time to cover that much in one book of that size. I was torn about rating it a 4 star, but after realizing it is a standalone prequel to another series (which I plan to read), I'm going with 5, since I really did enjoy it and it is quite thorough for a prequel.

I enjoyed this book was a bit predictable but still a fun read. I would recommend it. I received this book in exchange for a honest review.

I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. Lena is a the crown princess and she has been trained to rule her kingdom, but to hold on to it she has to find her mate among the dragons. That is what actually drew me to this book was the mention of dragons. There is just something that draws me in and wants to learn more about their world. There is a lot of pressure on Lena's shoulders and she is a warrior and she is not going to go down without a fight. The world is amazing and the characters want to know more about them. This only the first book in a series. I love Tristian and wonder what decision Lena will make. I will have to read the next book to find that out.

I received a copy of this book to review from Netgalley. Thank you for the opportunity
An interesting dragon based story. I'm not usually a fan of dragon stories but I found this one well done with impressive world building. The writing is good and the characters engaging and relatable, especially the MC. The story is more focused in a string independent female than these stories usually are which was nice to see.
However, the story was slow at times and lost the readers attention with repetitive chapters such as those details about dates with hopefuls which the reader could feel were like place cards, waiting for the real action to start.
A good read overall.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review! I thought the plot was really exciting and had a really good premise. The beginning was really good, and fast phased, and then it kind of died. The middle of the book as slow, and I had to put the book away for a long while before picking it up again. The last 25% of the book picks up again, and had a really exciting ending.
The characters are likeable, and I really enjoyed them. I think Princess Lena matured nicely through the book and ended up as a woman at the end of the story. I’m looking forward to see where this series goes next!

Thank you to the publishers, author and NetGalley for the free copy of this book!

I didn't necessarily hate this? However, it wasn't my favorite. I like the idea behind it and can definitely see the comparison to The Selection. I just found the main character a little too immature at times, and some areas of the plot line could have been expanded a little. I would say give it try!

A really enjoyable YA fantasy read. While the plot was a bit predictable that doesn't mean I enjoyed it any less. It truly delivered on the Selection meets Gladiator comp.

For the Crown boasts an interesting concept, but doesn't quite deliver. The author's intention is evident in the writing, but they didn't manage to present their idea with comparable writing. This is one of those books where I could see it being much more successful had the author spent more time on it, or worked a bit longer on their craft before tackling.

By no means is the book written poorly, but there is definitely room for growth. The cast of characters was promising the and world fascinating. I enjoyed learning about this world and the creatures that live within and found the world to definitely be unique. This book was ultimately a disappointment, but in saying that I can't deny that there is great potential behind this piece.

I really wanted to love this book, I really did, but as much as I tried I just could not get along with the main character.

To me her immaturity was far too aggravating to get past, and I struggled to believe it was real. A girl raised as heir and by royals surely would have more wit about her, but instead she throws tantrums and does pranks that make her family look a joke ..maybe its just me but that was just too much for me to get along with.

There is development that comes along and there is some great parts of this book that is totally bingeworthy, but for me I couldn't overlook the main characters annoying flaws.

This is my personal opinion, but I am positive there will be those out there who will not have this gripe. For fans of the selection series, this is something you should read - I'm sure you will enjoy the journey because it is a fun one.

First off I want to say huge thank you to the publisher Melissa Ricketts -BooksGoSocial , the author Melissa Mitchell , and to NetGalley for letting me request and read it, and can I say it was the cover that caught my eye in the first place . So lettings get in to what of I thought of the book, first off if you love dragons then this is right up your ally, second if you've ever read the book series The Selection ( which I haven't but I know what its about ) then you might want to check this one out because its in my opinion way better because it has dragon shifters in it and a main character that known's her own mind and what she wants.

The first half of this book is not as great as the second half. The first section dragged a little, but once it moved to what seemed like part two it definetely got much better. Overall, enjoyed the book.
