This is a coming of age story for Lena. She is a young girl, who reads emotionally younger than the 17/18 years old she is, who disagrees with her countries gender based laws regarding inheritance of power. She is politically minded and desperate for a role in her kingdom. As a coming of age story for Lena, finding her role in her society, this was a good story. As a romance story, less good.
Since Dragon-shifter people always have a mate bond that only snaps into place upon a woman's contact with the dragons scales, theres no real sense in traditional dating or flirting as multiple adult characters point out to Lena. You touch the male in dragon form, if you're not his mate you move on. Since the mate bond does not allow for slow romances to develop, the second main character, Tristan, does not enter the story until halfway through. Most of my notes are asking where Tristan is. Once Tristan entered the story, he was worth the wait. I do wish we had more of him.
For the Crown: Dragonwall Royals, is one of those books that you don't expect much from but end up being blown away by.
It has a unique and original plot, strong and feisty characters that are not perfect and grow as the story progresses. It also features dragons. Lots of Dragons. So it's very hard to put this book down and not become obsessed with it.
I really enjoyed this story that was a combination of The Selection series and a gladiator book. While I loved the book, I did feel like it read as two separate books in a series. One of the main characters does not even show up until after 50% of the book is through. While this can be exciting, because it leaves you guessing, I already knew the character should be coming from the blurb, so it was a little annoying waiting for him. That being said, the author did an amazing job of showing the growth of her characters as the events passed. The main character, while amazing, had a tendency to be very immature. She was to be the future Queen, but all she really cared about was the title that came with it. She wanted to make a difference, but never really wanted to do the work. She doesn't change much until Tristan shows up. Tristan and Lena bring out the best in each other and I really enjoyed watching their slow courtship. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves a good action romance.
If a princess acted like Denice the menace that would be here. Lots of crazy antics played on all the boring side characters.
Usually I am skeptical when a book is compared to The Selection, but I really enjoyed this one! I loved the flip where it’s the men competing for the princess since it’s usually the women competing! Great read!
Princess Selena of Dragonwall or as she's commonly known, Lena, is a fighter. She's turned 17 and knows all too well what the Charter says regarding her finding a mate and if this does not come to pass, she forfeits the crown and it's all so much for her to bear.
I got this book off the Netgalley "Read Now" shelf because I was intrigued by the title, cover and blurb. I love a story with a fierce heroine and if she's young, feisty and true, then I'll love it even more.
I love that the author did not create a flawless character. Lena is not immune to hopes and dreams, infatuation, or better yet the persistence of teens that their way is right. So, this was a fun read as well because of the mischief she plots. The vast personality of the suitors who come seeking for her hand and the patience with which her parents guide her. Did I mention that it involves dragons? They are my favorite mythical creatures.
