I received a copy of the book from Netgalley to review. Thank you for the opportunity.
A funny and action packed story with plenty of heart. I really liked the characters who were relatable and engaging. There was a mystery underlying the story and sweet relationships between the characters.
However, the writing wasn't great, being quite basic and child like at times which disrupted the flow of the story.
An OK read.
It was okay. I haven't read the previous books but I feel I didn't need to.
It was a cute story with a little bit of everything.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the chance to read the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A wonderful addition to the In Midsummer series. I really enjoyed seeing Rocky and Conner deal with the surprise that landed in their laps. I'm really enjoying this series and I'm looking forward to my next visit with these engaging characters.
*I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book provided by NetGalley*
I love the new addition to the In Midsummer series. This time it's from Connors' point of view. He's dealing with a new baby, a new relationship, Rocky's daughter, and prank calls the sheriffs office keep receiving. The book is exciting as first two and with new characters and it will have your attention from start to finish. It's also romantic, funny, sweet, a very cute baby and loving friends. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.
This is a continuation of the last book and therefore cannot be read as a standalone.
We’re back to Conner’s point of view for this book. And Rocky didn’t start out so good in this book. I thought I was going to have to give this series up after I’ve invested so much in it. But by the end of the book, he’s better.
This book is the best of the series. The drama is much more believable. I can’t say much about it because it would give away too many spoilers. Conner and Rocky definitely have their relationship tested but they also open up more and communicate better.
Thankfully we don’t have the ridiculous deputy from the first two in this one other than a phone call from him.
I see the next book is going to be from Rocky’s point of view which helped me like him more in the last book. I hope we get a little more relationship development between them in the next book because they certainly need it.
Needless to say, I’m hanging in for the long haul with this one.
In this third entry in the In Midsummer series, Rocky and Conner are in a steady relationship, but they are juggling a lot. At the end of the second book, Rocky's ex-wife had abandoned her new baby with Rocky and Conner, and baby Ryder is still settling in, which means no sleep and no alone time for the two men.
Then add in Rocky being shot at, constant dangerous prank calls, and some big decisions, plus of course some mysteries to solve, and life has become extremely complicated.
My one issue with the previous book in the series was I felt the solution to the main mystery just didn't work. But I though the solutions were handled much better in this book. While some people's reactions may have seemed a little extreme, they worked within the world Frances has created. I thought it was really clever how things tied together.
The supporting characters are full of life and each adds something to the story. I especially love Conner's best friend Love, a journalist, and Rocky's daughter, River (though she unfortunately wasn't in this book much).
But what keeps me coming back to this series is absolutely Rocky and Conner, both as characters and as a couple. They just completely work, and I really love them.
I'm looking forward to the fourth book in the series!
Such a sweet addition in the series! Who wouldn't love Connor!? The writing is very well done and the story flows really well from the previous book.
A satisfying HFN to this series! I actually thought this was the end of the series but it looks like there is going to be a Christmas special which I will definitely be reading.
The hard thing about books a part of a series is that after the first book the following books never stand very well on their own. And that’s not really a problem but the beginning of this book started out a bit clunky for me as I felt like I was just dropped into a story already in progress with no lead in. It was also hard to enjoy the beginning of the book as it was basically just Connor struggling through his new roll as Rocky’s babysitter. It made it hard to want to see the characters together when Rocky was so clearly taking advantage of Connor and didn’t seem to be respectful of him or their relationship.
I am happy with how the rest of the book developed, the mysteries in this one were enjoyable and I think they played out better than the one in the previous book. I do appreciate that there continue to be other plot lines outside of Connor and Rocky’s relationship.
It does seem like Rocky has finally wised up to what a good partner he has in Connor and I am hopeful that if we continue to get more stories about them that they will feel like a real couple.
Connor and Rocky are back! It was great to be back with these men as they navigate their relationship, falling into parenting an infant and once again solving a mystery.
I loved that Connor and Rocky have some great moments together defining their relationship a little more since we last saw them. Though, not alot has happened between them since we left, cause baby Ryder has taken over. Connor seemed to kinda get the baby dumped on him without much say, but he did seem ok with it eventually so I won't knock it too hard.
I loved what we saw of Love again. She is always my favorite and after her greatness in book 1, I never feel like we get enough of her. I want to know more about whats going on with her. Also, the mystery guest. I wanted more of that person. I understood all sides of that conflict and empathized with everyone, it wasn't written with too much slant. The ending though made me think it won't be happy times moving forward there.

The third installment of the "In Midsummer" series is a brisk read of attempted murder and growing pains. The central couple, Rocky and Conner, are trying to find their footing as a couple and determine what to do with the baby that was abandoned with them at the end of the last book. It's helpful to read the entire series up until this point, but Frances provides a quick context to help the reader follow along. These developments are strained by a local prankster pulling the good sheriff, Rocky, away from home at all hours of the night and an incident that leads to Conner conducting his own civilian investigation with baby in tow. This does add a comedic element to the series that is welcome within the melodrama of the previous books. There are some new characters introduced, and brief appearances by those fans of the series will appreciate. A fourth book has already been announced and based on where we leave them here, a whole new adventure is welcome.
Conner has gone from being a traveling vlogger to living in Midsummer with The Sheriff and two kids. The thing is, it's happened rather quickly and Conner has moments when it's all a whirlwind. Add to the mix constant prank calls that have Rocky racing to the department in the middle of the night, a screaming baby .... and then an accident happens and Conner is feeling unsteady.
There are some very real things going on in this installment of the series. Conner is coming to terms with the ways in which his life has changed. He was a free spirit and then suddenly he's a say at home parent. As Sheriff, Rocky is coming and going at all hours and that leaves Conner to deal with the kids most of the time. I liked that Conner questions his life choices! I mean, who wouldn't? It was refreshing to me that Conner has stayed true to himself and continues to wonder about his ability to be a part of a family.
For his part, Rocky is also questioning. Hie ex has dropped off another baby and while little Ryder is welcome, Rocky isn't sure if his small make-shift family is the right place for another baby. He's done his best with his daughter but being a single parent was difficult. Rocky also seems to be questioning whether Conner knew what he was signing up for. I think these are all pretty real issues that people might have to deal with.
There's something very endearing about Rocky and Conner and their little family. I can't really put my finger on it, but I really enjoy reading about them. They have a complicated life which is funny considering that one of the things they both like about the town of Midsummer is that it's a small town with a "simple" life. It doesn't bother me that there seems to be a lot of drama in this small town because the author doesn't over-write it. The drama is enough to keep the plot intriguing while at the same time believable.
I really enjoy this series and I'm glad to see that it's continuing.
The review will be posted in full to my blog on August 25, 2020 / goodreads link didn't work so I'm heading there now!
This is the third book in the series, and while I still love it, they're starting to get a bit formulaic, with similar, thin plots with too little character development. Still really enjoyable, but I hope the next one shakes things up a bit more than book 3 did.
