I’m new to audio books and really enjoyed this. Even the exercises were were explained verbally. Will definitely be exploring other books like this from The School of Life. It’s like listening to an extended video. Highly recommend.

A fascinating topic, told in a simple engaging manner. I found Fiona Buckland's narration measured and the exercises easy to follow and do. This does try to cram a lot of information into a relatively short amount of time. It's a lovely listen and I found I needed to listen to it once before re-listening and completing the exercises (at home in a quiet space). I think some advice on how to listen and whether or not it's worth taking it in short bursts, would be helpful. However, as an introduction and a first step to reflecting and getting to know oneself, this is certainly worth investing in.

This is an audio book that will help with self-awareness and self-discovery. What makes it stand apart from other self help books is that it engages with the listener, asking questions, self reflecting. It's short, simple and to the point.

This book made me defensive, annoyed and flippant towards the book, and I love that! Definitely touches on concept and thoughts that we mostly keep to ourselves. Insightful and sparks conversation within myself and some new points for me to bring up with my therapist :)

I LOVE these School of Life books! Great quality recordings with lovely narrators. Extremely soothing and helpful, and just lovely publishing for these really stressful times.

I'm afraid that The School of Life Self-Knowledge just wasn't for me. I can see how a lot of people might benefit from it's content and the voice of the narrator was beautiful, if a little lacking in inflection, but I think I need something a little more 'meaty'.

Gets to Some of the Nitty Gritty

Audiobook Review:
The book’s title made me think it would not be quite as “self-help” as it actually is. That's not a bad thing, as I thought it might be a little stuffy. But it is not. Each section of the book describes an aspect of self-awareness and then has exercises that help you explore the topic for yourself. For such a short book—it is only around an hour and 15 minutes long as an audiobook—it packed quite a punch. It explored things like your larger anxieties and smaller things that upset you. It encourages you to look at your emotional family tree to better understand and accept yourself, perhaps even sharing your insights with others so they understand that your actions and reactions may have little to do with them but with your emotional background instead. I am still relatively new to audiobooks, and I found myself wishing I actually had a physical book because I think it would be easier to do the exercises with the questions and prompts right in front of you. If you choose to purchase this as an audiobook, certainly have pen and paper available to take notes so you can do the exercises more easily. I thought the audiobook to be fantastic and was sad for it to come to an end as I liked the clear organization of the book and the insights gained from it.

Really enjoyable listen. A short concise introduction to self awareness, plenty of information, small actions to help you know yourself and manage some of the issues you may find when looking.
The narrator is very calm and almost therapist like as she asks lots of questions, which I found a bit odd but not unproductive. I would recommend listening with a notepad and pen to do the quizzes when listening.
Thanks to NetGalley and publisher spotlight audio for the ARC.

Thank you NetGalley for sharing this listen with me. The School of Life Self-Knowledge is incredibly insightful. It helped me put a ton of my feelings into words. It is an encouraging book to begin interpreting the feelings of doubt, anxiety, and even happiness. I will definitely include some of the practices taught in this book into my everyday life. I will also share my new insights with my friends.

Nice, short audiobook which is handy if you want to listen in the car all in one session, or have a spare hour. The narrator's voice is pleasant to listen to, however she did make me feel a little sleepy at times. I liked the fact that there was content and exercises for me to complete. I did however feel that something was missing compared to other audiobooks that I have listened to.

The audiobook is an interesting opportunity... you get a chance to listen, and then you're directed to think for yourself about what was said.
I usually listen to audiobooks when working around the house and driving, but after struggling to start this book I learned to listen in bed at the end of the day... that way it was convenient to pause the book and think.
Plan to have time to stop and think while listening and this audiobook is interesting.

Self-Knowledge is a super-quick read with concepts and exercises to help you think about and be aware of your behavior, choices, and self-regard. These are very simple exercises but of course the simplest exercises are often the most powerful.

Fiona Buckland's narration was very even, not with a lot of emotion or inflection. I found it distanced me from some of the emotional and personal topics she was discussing. But it was clear and easy to follow.

If you like to work on yourself, increase your self-awareness and have not spent a lot of time asking questions around self-discovery, this short, simple book will be a great way to get started and be introduced to some of these questions to help guide you.

with gratitude to NetGalley and Publisher Spotlight Audio/The School of Life for an advance copy of Self-Knowledge.

Self-Knowledge is a useful quick read with helpful exercises. I liked how the exercises were built in the book because I tend to read self help books and then not change anything.

Fiona Buckland did a decent job narrating, but I would've preferred more emotion in her voice.

I recommend Self-Knowledge to anyone looking for a quick self help book. I feel like this is a good book to read to start changing your life.

Thank you NetGalley and Publisher Spotlight Audio/The School of Life for Self-Knowledge.

I'm a huge fan of The School of Life YouTube channel, so I was super excited to listen to this audiobook.

First and most importantly, I couldn't be happier that the narrator was the same one as on YouTube. I think he makes the channel what it is to the viewers, and I can't imagine anyone else narrating it or the audiobook. It was such a pleasure listening this voice throughout the book and imagining the animation in front of my eyes.

At the same time, since the lack of animation of course took away part of the experience, I was hoping to get a lot more in terms of content from this book, which I did. Indeed, it's really informational, reflective and insightful - and life-changing. Especially given how short it is, the book was packed with great information, perfect for when you don't feel up for a full-length book.

*Thank you to the Publisher for a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
