Trillia Newbell is a brilliant author in regards to craft such relatable and biblically sound studies. I love that she finds a chapter to focus on and help the reader get a deeper, more connected understanding of it. She dives deep into Hebrews 11 while having us read through Hebrews 10, 12 and some other Old Testament books (such as Joshua and Judges).
Even though this is a six-week study, there is an option to turn it into an eight-week study which is excellent for those who are new to this kind of devotional study or for those who want to go deeper. The introductory portion of this study is extremely useful for both seasoned and new believers.
Being that this is a devotional style Bible study its broken into five days for each week. Each week consists of the following:
- Introduction to the week with a specific reading and questions to help you dig for a better understanding.
- Five days with an explore section which consists of the scripture reading(s) and devotional to support thinking. Also a reflect section with questions to get your mind diving deep into the study.
This an excellent, eye-opening study for both personal and group use. I think this is great for personal reference and for churches looking to expand their Bible study.
I can see me hosting a women's study with this workbook. Would definitely recommend!
This is a Bible study book that really helps us unpack those men and women talked about in Hebrews chapter 11. Newbell makes the book easy for groups or individuals to use to unpack this chapter of the Bible over six to eight weeks. Great writing and insights, and super helpful encouragements for our own walk as Jesus followers.
4 stars. I enjoyed this devotional and definitely think it would be a great eight week study to do with other women. Review to come.
Due to being a high school English teacher, I am often behind on writing reviews. Here is a summary of my initial thoughts.
This devotional on Hebrews 11 is very timely, challenging us to live a life of faith through the lens of those who were recognized by their faith. This is set up as a devotional with a few reflection questions at the end of each daily read. Another great option for your bible study this winter!
"A Great Cloud of Witnesses" is an fantastic Bible study book by Trillia Newbell. Newbell is an excellent Christian author, and this Bible study is great as well! Based on the 11th chapter of Hebrews, this study focuses on many of the well-known heroes of the faith. My favorite subject study was that of Rahab; she has always been such an intriguing character to me. This was an excellent Bible study that I think many would find useful to strengthen them in their Christian faith.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
Usually, messages about Hebrews 11 spotlight the greatest heroes of the faith. Trillia Newbell does focus on some of them, like Abraham and Noah, but draws our attention to those who only make cameos in the Old Testament. As a fresh approach, she emphasizes that common people, those with troublesome backgrounds, unwise decisions and those we'd miss with a passing glance. That offers hope to us as well. God worked in the lives of those with shocking history and included them as examples to follow because of their faith.
The study includes chapter questions and a leader guide for leading a Bible study group. The book is useful for individual and group study.
I received a copy of the book without obligation. This review is my opinion.
