I really enjoyed this book and the character building between Becky and Ash. It was a fun, quick read that was hilarious as well as endearing, and I devoured it in one sitting. Definitely suitable for fans of Beth O'Leary. I look forward to reading more books from this author.
An enjoyable lovely, warm, light hearted novel. Becky finds herself in a beautiful home setting dog sitting while the owner is away. Life takes a new turn when she meets the ex.partner of the house.
This was actually cute! I enjoyed it a lot and will surely grab it once it comes out, the story was captivating and that cover? STUNNING
Wow did I love this book! A cute British rom-com, where Becky decides to leave her city life for a house and dog sitting gig to clear her head. The only problem, the dog, Bella, is in a battle of ownership between Ash and Georgina and Becky is caught in the middle. Throughout the book we follow Becky as she tries to deny her attraction to Ash, find out what she truly wants out of her job as an artist, and
I loved that this book pushes the looking at different perspectives and how her perspective on Ash and Georgina change throughout the book. I loved Becky's inner monologue on how to change her life for the better and it got me thinking of the same. I loved that it wasn't just a love story between Becky and Ash, but also a dying love story between Ash and Georgina, and a heartfelt one between Becky and Bella. I whole-heartedly believe that dogs can change your attitude and I loved that being seen in this book. My only qualms about this book is she clearly says Bella is black but the cover is a blond dog!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read this book.
I found it really hard to rate this book. On one hand, it's a light, fun story about realising that you can make it on your own, leaving those that bring you down. On the other hand, Becky could be quite erratic and over the top (hence the many exclamation points), and it felt like she brought some of it on to herself. Especially at the beginning of the book and her issues with Teddy.
The dogs scenes were very funny though, and Ash certainly seemed to do no wrong. The scenery and area where Ash lived sounded very idyllic and was a lovely backdrop for the story.
Lockdown reading has affected my reading choices as with so many things. I have sought some lighter, happier reads with a little romance and a little comedy. The Dog Sitter appealed because I love the two things at the heart of it – dogs and the Lake District. If you love both you will enjoy this read. Becky is escaping from a broken relationship which has knocked her confidence and undermined her relationship with her family. She takes a housesitting job in the Lake District which also includes looking after the resident cockapoo, Bella. Looking after Bella is made more difficult by the fact that a handsome man appears to be asserting ownership and threatening to take Bella. The setting is beautiful, beside a lake and looking out to the amazing Cumbrian scenery, Bella is a bundle of fluffiness and the handsome man is something of a gorgeous muscle man and the chemistry begins to fizz. This is a gentle, happy, read. I lapped up the scenery which is beautifully described and greatly appealing particularly in lockdown! Bella is without doubt the star of the show, she totally gets into your heart. It is clear that Stoneley knows her dogs and her dog paraphernalia! The chemistry bubbles along nicely between Ash and Becky and Becky’s art feels very real – I could almost visualise the paintings. I wasn’t totally convinced by the ex boyfriend’s appearance or by the motivations of Georgina, the home owner, and I found the focus on Ash’s muscles a bit too much for me. However, this was a book which distracted me in a lovely way and I very much enjoyed it. With thanks to One More Chapter and Netgalley for a digital copy of this book.
There was nothing not to like about this book, cute dog, nice couple, good story and set in the Lake District
Am almost perfect read, especially for the times we are all living in when escapism is paramount
What a fun story. Just what you need during gloomy lockdown days to lift the spirits. It contains all the usual anecdotes you need for this genre of book. Miserable girl tries to get away from her previous life only to meet gorgeous hunk! A great romantic comedy.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK for the advance copy of this book
Easy, light-hearted read. Becky takes on a house sitting/ dog sitting role in the Lakes for a high maintenance client..who is convinced her ex Ash is going to dog nap Bella, the adorable Cockapoo. True to form Becky and Ash clash, and then become inextricably involved with each other.. Lovely setting, fairly predictable story line .but nevertheless enjoyable read.
A cute and very original romance! Nothing brings people together like a cute random run in! Ash and Becky definitely don’t start off on the right foot but as their time together starts to become frequent they find they have more in common then they think!
One of the things I loved about this book isn’t so much the swoons romance but more so the self discovery! Becky is definitely in a rut and this random job and adorable dog have Becky discovering she’s more than what she’s been told and she find an inner strength that’s been hidden for too long!
A very beautiful read!
A great light hearted read. Beautifully set in the lakes with a cute cocker pop Bella which were definitely the highlights, set alongside a cute romance. What’s not to like?

I absolutely adore Zara's books and this has been no different. This is a book which has put a huge smile on my face.
This is one of those books perfect for when you need cheering up. Zara is a wonderful author and her books never disappoint.
I love the cover of this book, it instantly attracts attention. The fact it has a gorgeous puppy is an added healthy extra.
This is another gorgeous gem by a lovely talented author. I have loved this one and highly recommend this book.
I like Zara Stonely as an author and was excited to read this new offering.
The story centres around Becky who becomes a ‘dog sitter’ and the following antics with the dog that leads to sparky chemistry with Ash.
I’m a huge fan of the authors writing style, it flows well, characters are brilliantly described and settings are detailed enough to mentally picture them, without being tiresome to read. This book has a heavy focus on the dog, and as a non-doggy person (is that a thing?), I lost my connection to the book several times. I like dogs and appreciate the cuteness...but I don’t find dog stories/anecdotes that interesting (sorry).
Overall, I liked the story. I would recommend this to dog loving readers. I know I’m probably in a small minority:)
Thank you NetGalley and publisher for my advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review 📚
3.5 ⭐️
Becky must make a few big life decisions, so, to figure things out she take on a job as a house/dog sitter in Cumbria - far from her life in London. Here she meets Ash, who claims the dog is in fact his! What transpires is a hilarious and cute read.
I loved this story!!
It kept me hooked throughout the story and I loved the author's style of writing, it worked brilliantly with the plot and it was so well written!
It was a great storyline, well developed and it was full of ups and downs. The characters were wonderful and I loved getting to know them as the book progressed.
It is 5 stars from me for this one, a wonderful story, well written and very highly recommended - I loved it!!
This book was lovely to read. Having spent many holidays in the Lake District with the family over the years I know it well. Except when we were there it seemed to rain quite a bit. Apart from that this book brought back many happy memories and I recognised a lot of the places mentioned, even the wonderful gingerbread of Grasmere. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
If you consider yourself a dog lover, this is the book for you.
A cute cockapoo named Bella is the star of this book and will give you all the feels for having a cute and energetic dog around as if they're in the same room with you! Becky is the main character of this story and it is such fun to see how she gets on with Bella throughout the story along with the romantic relationship that is also happening at the same time. Plus, she's an artistic character which I don't see often!
If you want a fun and light read that is filled with dogs then this is the book for you!
Thank you NetGalley and One More Chapter for the earc to review.
My fourth book by this author and I was looking forward to it as usual. What stood out for me was that the cover of the book was a lot more colourful than the 3 others I read. Those were white overall with red or pink. Maybe it was because it had a totally different theme than the others? I don’t know but I liked it. If I can just ask one question. Why is the dog on the cover white? It’s a detail, I know, but I like the cover to reflect the content as much as possible. 😉
The story itself then. For those who have read some of my reviews before know I am a dog lover. Put a dog in a book and you have already won we half over. 😊 The focus indeed was on the dog and it was lovely. The author described her behaviour very well and I could see my own dog in most of the situations. That made me smile because what’s more fun than seeing your dog enjoying himself and entertaining you at the same time.
About the characters. I liked Becky. She lost her belief in herself due to other people telling her off. I am glad she found the love for what she enjoys doing again.
Georgina is a bit of a wicked witch, but she too comes to terms with the past and is on her way to her happy ever after.
Ash … Good looking, sexy, but not always very kind to Becky in my opinion. He often had her in a state of panic and even though he explained afterwards, I did not think it was funny at all. But who am I? 😉
Anyway, I enjoyed the book and it made me smile several times. Maybe Ash did not win me over, but the dogs certainly did. 4 stars
