Kelly Siskind strikes again with a fun loving novel! The characters had depth, passion, and a whole lot of chemistry. I laughed out loud every time Wes called Annie "Squirrel" and when they dubbed Felix a rabbit-squirrel. That's the perfect kind of romance- one where you can laugh and be yourself with the other person.
While Leo's backstory was devastating, I love how the author brought him to life in Wes' music. The montage at the end gave me chills- I can only imagine what it would've been like to experience that in person. I also loved the side characters like Vivian and Sarah, as well as the addition of Clementine. It's always fun when an author sneaks characters from other books in! Overall, a fun, powerful, sigh inducing book!
The Beat Match was such a fun, loving and emotional book for me. I didn't expect to connect with the characters as much as I did and I thoroughly enjoyed this romcom story. Wes and Annie both had traumatic pasts full of hurt and pain, which was hard to read at times. Kelly Siskind did an amazing job shedding light on what it meant to lose someone you love and continue to celebrate their life. Wes and Annie couldn't be any different, yet they found comfort in each others friendship. The connection through music also helped Wes and Annie address their deepest darkest secrets. This book truly reflected what it's like to be human and how hard life can be sometimes. I highly recommend reading this story full of love, comedy, and emotion. I promise the ending will not disappoint you!
You mean to tell me that my new book boyfriend is a dapper Italian suit-wearing businessman by day, a masked beatmatching DJ by night??? Well, I definitely like the sound of that 🔊🤩 (badum tss! 🥁😝)
Thank you sooo much to Xpresso Book Tours for providing an ARC! Literally shrieked of joy when I got that email notification 🥳
Friends, Kelly Siskind has done it again, but this time it comes with a moonlighting DJ and an aspiring one! And as a cherry on top, it comes with one of my favorite tropes...I say Y to the ES!!! 🙌🏻
Definitely one of the best things about Kelly’s stories is being introduced to the main characters. They have layers that are so exciting and fun to discover as you read along—and when you get some swoony and steamy romance alongside, well isn’t that just a sweet treat?
Enjoyed this one to bits! Go and look forward to its release this coming September 16 🗓 BUUUUT I also recommend you guys check out the first two installments of the Showmen series, both of which I also absolutely adore: New Orleans Rush 🎩 and Don’t Go Stealing My Heart 🖼
***3 Stars***
I wanted to love this book. I thought the whole DJ battle thing was kinda cool and I’m always down for a good ‘ol “off limits” kind of romance, but in the end the love just wasn’t there. There is like though, and I’ve landed firmly in the like arena, which is always a wonky place to be in my world, but it is what it is.
I liked Weston. He’s protective and loyal, even to those that don’t deserve it. But he also has a huge tendency to be so blunt that it’s brutal and doesn’t always see what’s right in front of his face. Annie, I didn’t hate, but I will admit I had a rough time with her. She’s had a rough life and I totally admired how she didn’t allow it to drag her down, but I found her to be immature and hypocritical. The immature part I didn’t necessarily have an issue with because she was trying to figure out who she was and who she wanted to be, so I got that. It was the hypocrisy side that I couldn’t get around. To be fair, I did understand the why behind it when it was explained, I did, but she did and said things that I found to be quite unfair.
As for their journey to their HEA...when they were just being themselves and not trying to protect the other or fix something, I did like them together. They balanced each other out and pulled off the whole opposites attract thing. So, in the end, I was happy with where they ended up.
While this one may not be one of my fav reads by the author, I will say that it was filled with some deep emotions from both Weston and Annie and had some pretty awesome secondary characters that I wouldn’t mind spending a lot more time with if given the chance.

Hmm. Hmm. Hmm. I'm struggling to rate this one with stars. Yes - it's a modern romcom, I really shouldn't have the highest of expectations, BUT. I'm so very tired of the overprotective alpha male. I saw other reviews calling this a "slow burn", and I'm not sure if that applies. I mean it's technically true, they grew up knowing each other, but for the purposes of what you actually see in the course of this book, it's pretty much instant. Like, very very fast. I got 50 Shades vibes from the whole subterfuge subplot, and that's not a compliment.
All that being said, it is fun and enjoyable. Just don't look at it too closely.
Loved this book! This is the first Kelly Siskind novel I have read, but definitely not my last! This was a friends-to-lovers contemporary romance, and it was great! Annie and Wes have known each other for years. Annie's brother was Wes's best friend, and he died tragically. Wes has been looking out for Annie for years, but has started to develop feelings for her that he is not sure how to handle. The chemistry between Annie and Wes is so well done. I loved this one so much, I am going to go back and read the other two in Siskind's series "The Showmen."
I am so glad to have finally read one of Kelly’s books because it is absolutely fantastic. I really enjoyed the lead up to the romance, the witty banter, the back and side stories that are well laid out and all the cute little hilarious moments. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good romantic comedy, with best friend’s sibling and friends to lovers troupes.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read this book.
I'm having a hard time rating this book. I find I enjoyed the characters a lot more than I did in 'Don't go stealing my heart.' Although when Wes was at work or being bossy to Annie, it became a bit too much.
The side plot of his father and the business became more serious that I anticipated, but I'm glad it all worked out in the end. It was good to see that the fake dating trope wasn't the main idea in this book, and didn't become a big issue between Annie and Wes.
There were some sweet moments, especially with the video towards the end, and the epilogue gave us a good idea of what the future held for them.
3.5 stars
I just had trouble getting into this story about a romance between a wealthy executive in a pharmaceutical company and a woman he’s known since she was a young girl living in a shelter. Apparently, they both harbor deep desires to be dj’s in dance clubs. So he moonlights mixing beats in the clubs wearing a falcon mask. I rather liked the two and their friendly relationship and how she is comfortable sassing him and ridiculing how tightly wound he is. But I couldn’t bring myself to care about them and their drama. I didn’t buy the idea that he was some genius at mixing beats as well as a brilliant executive in his family’s company.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.
Thank you to Kelly Siskind and NetGalley for a gifted copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Just as you can expect from the adorable cover, this story is super cute. Annie is super fun and quirky and I loved that she has an obsession with scrapbooking. Wes is type A and overprotective but still super adorable. I wasn't really buying the DJ/clubbing aspect of the story but I rolled with it and it grew on me. I got the message Siskind was trying to weave into the story and I fully support it.
I liked the inclusion of Clementine in this story but the introduction of the new character for the next book was a little clunky. I had to go back and see if he was part of the story and I missed it somehow. Not a big deal. Overall, it's a cute slow burn romance without much drama which is just what I needed.
I fell in love with Kelly Siskind’s writing when I read New Orleans Rush, but I might havve found a new favorite. The Beat Match was absolutely riveting. It had everything from very layered and complicated characters, adorable and quirky dialogue and humor, and steamy sex-everything. What I love most about this author's writing is that every book almost feels like the author is reinventing herself. The writing style is always different, yet equally masterful every single time. I actually cannot wait for the fourth book in the series and will be among the first to read it
This was my first book by Kelly Siskind, and all I can say is I now must go and buy the others in this series. Immediately. I need more.
I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest opinion and honestly... I loved all the different aspects to this book. The humor, the romance, the deep emotion revolving around family and important everyday issues. Even the little taste of mystery and suspense we got.
Annie and Wes are connected through Annie’s dead brother. What starts out as protective brotherly affection, soon turns into something more as they discover each other’s secrets.
It was super cute. I loved Annie. She was strong, quirky and fun. Her scrapbooking hobby had me laughing out loud and her relationship with Wes was sweet and goofy.
I loved the deep connection she wrote between DJing and speaking up on important matters. Definitely gave me goosebumps as I was reading. Almost like I was in that club and a part of the scene.
I only wish that we had just a bit “more” for the climax. She mentions lives being in danger and I really wish she had played on that.
That being said, the epilogue really closed up the story. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
Received a Netgalley ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book was absolutely perfect! I can’t stress enough as to how much I absolutely adored this book!
The Beat Match follows our 2 main characters: Annie Ward and Weston Aldrich. Annie’s deceased brother, Leo, was Wes’s best friend and after Leo passed away Weston continued to take care of Annie. Wes and Annie are best friends but after one kiss, they start to question their feelings for one another. OH! And Wes is a DJ at night!
Now, my thoughts
What I didn’t like:
➵ NOTHING! This book was everything. I can’t for the life of me mention one thing I didn’t like.
What I liked:
➵ The relationship: Weston and Annie’s relationship felt so natural and pure. Their banter was amazing and their scenes were so soft I wanted to cry. I practically highlighted the entire book.
➵ The writing style: This book was so easy to read. I especially loved how it was a dual POV - because we hardly see that in romance books. Also, some of the character’s thought were hilarious.
➵ The side characters: I adored them! They were really fun to read about and, where I would usually find myself extremely bored while reading a scene without both the main characters, this was not the case with The Beat Match. All of them were so funny and interesting.
➵ Pretty much everything:
Have I mentioned before how perfect this book is??? I can’t explain it. I would 10/5 recommend this book!
Let me preface this review by saying I’ve read Kelly Siskind’s books and usually enjoy them. The last book in this series fell flat for me so I wasn’t sure what to expect from this one. This was really well written, the story was very good and involved. The romance was sensual. My favorite part is when Annie and falcon first kiss in the club- hot hot! That being said, I can’t personally relate to the music/club scenes but I. Overall thought this was very good. Thank you to netgalley for the ARC.
Book : The Beat Match
Author: Kelly Siskind
Rating: 5/5⭐️
Another five star read! I think I was wise enough to request the perfect books, I mean reading five star worthy books consecutively helped me to relieve stress.Swipe right to see the blurb.
•Wes and Annie’s relationship was so sensual and sweet. The banter between them was extremely sassy. The storyline had the perfect balance between cheesy romance and tear inducing emotions. The multidimensional characters were ideal and ohhhhhhh! Wes in crisp Italian Suits definitely instigated me to imagine a fine well dressed man ( like Tom Ellis aka Lucifer and Gabriel Macht aka Harvey Specter). I was completely smitten.
•Favourite quotes:
“He was so textbook the textbooks were jealous of him”
“She walked past an abstract painting that oozed wealth, the grotesquely simple kind with the white line drawn on a black canvas,as though saying:we’re so powerful we pay millions for the mundane”
This book is the third book in the SHOWMEN series. You can also try this book as a stand alone. I’m definitely gonna read the companions of this book - New Orleans Rush and Don’t Go Stealing My Heart.
This book will be published on 16th September,2020. I’m super excited after reading the ARC and I guess I sound hyperbolic. But I SWEAR, if you love reading CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE,SECRET IDENTITY then what’re you waiting for? Add this to your September tbr list!
Siskind creates perfect harmony with this one!
This was my first Kelly Siskind book, and it certainly won't be my last. From the first chapter, I knew I was hooked - and had the book finished in two days. Her clever writing, witty characters, endearing backstories made Annie and Wes easy to love and root for. I absolutely devoured this book.
Wes and Annie are from two different sides of town, literally. While he grew up in tailored suits, Annie was in and out of homeless shelters with her brother, Leo, who was befriended by Wes at a young age. With Leo's untimely death, he left Wes with a request: take care of Annie because she had no one. But his big brother role takes a twist one night when he sees Annie with new eyes. Now, as their relationship evolves, they have to trust each other enough to reveal secrets about the present and the past.
I seriously loved this book. The characters were developed and multifaceted. The descriptions of the club scenes had my blood pumping; I really felt like I was there, with Annie, experiencing the music through her. The connection between the two was a good, slow burn. The writing kept giving the reader glimpses into each character's thoughts which made the build up even better. Overall, Siskind's writing created a perfect rhythm for a romance; the beat is certainly matched in this book!
I have greatly enjoyed Kelly Siskind's other books in this series.
I ADORED this one. I don't know why, exactly, though I love music nearly as much as I love reading, so perhaps they just reached a perfect blend some how, but this book just worked for me like nothing else I have read recently. The secondary characters were sublime. The backstory perfectly balanced. The main characters played off each other magically. It has to have been one of the best books I have read this year and everything about it just felt amazing.
Two DJs. One beat. An off-limits romance neither of them expected.
Weston Aldrich is known for his devastating looks and crisp Italian suits. He's been groomed to take over his family business and is on the brink of closing a massive merger. Only two wild cards can derail him.
Wild Card One: If anyone learns he moonlights as a masked DJ, his credibility will be toast.
Wild Card Two: Annie can't-hold-a-job Ward.
The Annie Ward he promised to help raise after her brother died. The scatterbrained girl who makes it her mission in life to drive him crazy. The gorgeous woman he's not supposed to fantasize about, let alone kiss.
An easy read, corny romantic novel, great for sunny beach days or wet Sunday afternoons.
I want to thank NetGalley and Kelly Siskind for a pre-publication copy to review.
Hell yeah! Sweet, entertaining, slow burn romance with lots of tragic events, deep family issues and eventually the healing power of music that brings the true lovers together!
I love the author’s works. This series started with beautiful, magical New Orleans story and continued with a dazzling, clever woman thief’s alluring love story and finally at the third book: we’re introduced to aspiring music lovers and their rhythmic, energetic, powerful world!
What a beautiful friends to lovers story! Wes is real sweet pie, ideal book boyfriend, protective, kind, smart and absolutely charming! And definitely quirky, clever, sassy, straightforward, bold Annie was not ideal but still likable kind of heroine!
Annie already lost her mother because of drug overdose and after her brother died, she felt lost, all alone, depressed. Thankfully her brother’s best friend Wes is always there for you when she needs a shoulder to cry on but his overprotectiveness is so irritating and suffocating.
Wes also deals with his own demons, as his family pushes pressure on him to take over their family business which is on the brink of a closing grandiose merger. Even though he kills it when he wears those Italian suits, his undeniable charisma is definitely pant melting strength that the women around her cannot resist, at the end of the day he turns into something different( nope, not a werewolf of vampire, this is not Charlaine Harris book!) he also doesn’t wear a suit with bat logo or changing his daily clothes in a phone booth (pay attention! This story does not take place in DC universe!), he just wears a mask without green hoodie( he’s charismatic and handsome but he’s not also Oliver Queen) and he turns into a DJ and guess what Annie who cannot work at a proper job, finds her passion at music and as soon as she learns Wes’ secret, their common interest to become a DJ and realize the dream of Annie’s death brother who was also passionate about music, help them form a deep friendship bound.
And they realize they start to fall hard for each other. But Wes gave his word to Annie’s brother before he died. He will always take care of her and he keeps this as secret which can also destroy everything about their blooming relationship.
Overall: I enjoyed this book more than the other two books of the series. Especially hero stole my heart. Oh Wes, you’re definition of lovable book boyfriend! Emotions are everywhere. It’s poetic, lyrical tear jerker, unique love story that I highly recommend!
Special thanks to NetGalley for sharing this enjoyable ARC with me in exchange my honest opinions and extra thanks to Kelly Siskind for writing this sweet, sassy, feel-good story.
Yes, just yes. This book has it all - it’s sweet, sassy, sexy and steamy! All the things that I enjoy in a great romcom. Like the first two Showmen books in the series, this one also delivers with great banter and quirkiness (although slightly toned down than the other two).
Annie and Wes will not only become your favorite (fictional) DJs, but also one of your favorite (fictional) couples!
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
