This is a really fun Thanksgiving book. What a great one to incorporate in your child's library or in a classroom. It's a fun way to look at our Thanksgiving traditions as dinosaurs participate in them! The pictures are great and children will love to have you read this to them!
The publisher made this available for review via netgalley. This is my honest review.
I read this book with my three year old daughter today and really enjoyed it.
I asked my three year old what she thought of the book and it was good – so high praise indeed.
In fact she loved it so much we have juts bought a copy of Dino-Halloween and it is due for delivery on Wednesday!
It is 5 stars from me for this one, well written, fabulous illustrations and a fab story too – very highly recommended!
This fun book gives readers a peek at how dinosaurs celebrate Thanksgiving. It is upbeat, joyous and energetic. The dinosaurs are busy indeed preparing the Thanksgiving feast, flying in from all over the country for the big event and looking so forward to spending this special day together.
As they await that scrumptious meal to cook they attend a celebratory parade, play a robust game of football and explore a huge corn maze. Their energy is boundless but the one thing in the back of their minds is ... when are we going to eat? Finally the time has arrived to sit down together and indulge. Before they do they give thanks for the abundance of great food before them and for their beloved friends and families.
Written in rhyme this book invites readers into their frolicking day and reminds them of the same familiar traditions that human families will be experiencing also. The illustrations are truly fabulous! They are colourful and full of activity and details. I love them. Does the fun and excitement end after the plates are cleaned, washed and tucked back in the cupboards? No way.... the dinosaurs are already planning their Easter celebration. This book is a perfect read-aloud and kids ( and adults ) who love dinosaurs will want to read the book over and over again. I highly recommend this book.
This book was very fun! The illustrations are so bright and somehow the dinos managed to have very expressive faces! My only suggestion would be to rethink the team name, Redscales, since WA changed its name this season.
My 4 year old is obsessed with dinosaurs and I know this will be a big hit with him!
A rambunctious romp of a read for everyone, especially the little dino-lovers. You learn while you have fun too (I love when this happens). This was a recent eARC NetGalley read. (Ages 4 – 8+)
This book was adorable!!!
I read it to my 16 month old and he laughed and clapped the entire time!
He loved seeing the Dinos on all the pages and seeing them cook and play while hearing the story!
He may not have understood all the words or the story yet, but the rhymes and the cadence with which this story is read is very engaging and entertaining. He actually sat through the entire story, which is very rare for him!
I will have to get him this one for his bookshelf along with any other holiday ones that come out like it!
For sure a winner in this momma’s opinion!
A solid addition to an already beloved Dino-series. Both the illustrations and text are wonderful for young dinosaur lovers.
This was a great rhyming book about Thanksgiving and all of the fun traditions you and your family can participate in. I love the Dinos and all of the bright, colorful illustrations. Now I have to read the rest of the Dino books.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.
Cute book and illustrations. I liked the rhyming throughout and the tale of Thanksgiving Day in the land of dinosaurs.
The book is....fine. Vivid illustrations, lots of family traditions (flag football, corn maze, bonfire, parade, football on TV, etc) included that kids might recognize and relate to their own family’s traditions. I appreciated that Stego was having a veggie Thanksgiving, being herbivorous. But mainly, I wanted to read this before purchase because it’s so hard to find inoffensive books about Thanksgiving—I wanted to make sure I wasn’t going to see a Dino in Native drag or an infuriating school play. (Note: there is a mention of a football team called the Redscales—a Redskins reference—that I don’t think most kids will pick up on—and no helmet imagery). This book fits that criteria. And we get a bit about gratitude, which is nice (not tons, though). I’ll buy two for my small library out of relief.
This Thanksgiving-themed picture book is a great read-aloud for library story time. Teachers can use the book to spark discussion about family traditions, as well as different kinds of foods that people eat during the Thanksgiving holiday. The inclusion of a vegetarian dinner in the book is a great way not only to explain the different foods (meat, veggies, ect.) but also to learn about the diets of different dinosaurs. I enjoyed the rhyme scheme of the book, although the pacing was a little off at some points and I would have to add filler words in order to keep a rhythm.
The latest installment in the Dino series, this one focuses on Thanksgiving. The rhymes are fun as usual with dinosaurs playing football before dinner, carnivores cooking turkey, and herbivores making salads and veggies. Great fun!
I read this and then immediately turned around and shared it with my four year old son and he adored it!!! The illustrations were super fun and cute. There was so much activity for him to look at while I read him the story/rhymes.
He has a fuzzy idea of what Thanksgiving is like, but he doesn’t really remember much so I thought it’d be fun to read him a book about it. This shared all the highlights of the preparation, the food, the festivities, and the friends and family you surround yourself with. He and I especially enjoyed reading what everyone was thankful for. He is thankful for dinosaurs in case you are wondering. 😆
I recommend this to children probably first grade and under. It is adorable, has a lot that you can talk about beyond what you read on the pages which we love. He was really enchanted with the many dinos and that they had names. Like I said, super cute!!
Thanks so much to NetGalley and CarolRhoda Books for the opportunity to read this book for my honest and unbiased opinion.
Hahahha!!! This got me laughing!
This one is so chaotic fun!
The graphics is fun. And this one is going to be more fun for those kids who love games and legos.
The dinosaurs look so cute and colourful.
There's not much as a story in here but yes, it's fun as a picture book just to Illustrate different kinds of dinosaurs.
I would appreciate it more if there's more accurate descriptions of each of these dinosaurs because as an adult I am bad at naming all of them!
But yes, a fun readalong with kids!
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC.
My son loves dinosaurs. He was first introduced to them from Pink Fong, when we were watching the Baby Shark videos on repeat. The dinosaur songs really held his attention, and he now walks around saying names like ankylosaurus and iguanodon as only a 2-year old can.
When I told him I had a story to read to him, he quickly jumped in my lap. I pulled up Dino-Thanksgiving and he went crazy! He started shouting "Dinosaurs! Dinosaurs!"
My son's book review (2-years old): Mom: Hey buddy, what did you think?
Son: AGAIN! AGAIN!
Mom: So did you like it?
Son: YES! Mommy! Dinosaurs! Again!
Mom: Which dinosaur was your favorite?
Son: T-rex! (points to Compy and begins to laugh)
Mom Translation of Son's Review: Dinosaurs are so much fun! I looked up the author and found that this is one book in a whole SERIES of Dino books! We got so excited, we immediately looked up Dino-Halloween and Dino-Dancing. When we woke up the next morning, my son immediately began to ask for me to read to him again. We have a hit on our hands here!
As a mom, I loved the story. It falls in line with a lot of our family traditions, from watching the parade (shout-out to the balloon turkey! I see you Macy's turkey!) to having football on while everyone is either cooking or hanging out. The illustrations, by Barry Gott, are amazing. Bright, colorful and each dinosaur gives you something new to look at.
And I agree with my son: Compy is hilarious!
This is a holiday book that I think the family will enjoy throughout the years. That's one tradition I love for each holiday - pulling out the books! And now I have to go hunt down about 11 other dinosaur books for my son as a Christmas gift! (Shhhh - don't tell him!)
I received an ARC for an honest review.
I read this one with my son. He loves dinosaurs and loved this book! He especially loved the bright colors. I plan on purchasing a hard copy for my nephew for Thanksgiving!
This is such a fun childrens book! I loved the artwork and my kiddo really loved the dinosaurs. The text was really well done and was pleasant to read! Its one I won't mind reading over and over and over again!
This is such a cute children’s book. The graphics were very well done and the rhyming story was super cute. It had a dr suess feel to it and to that I give a hats off to the author.
Such a cute and adorable book for kids. My great niece loved this. It was so colorful and the story moved along smoothly. Loved this book.
Review to come September 16th to my blog/goodreads.
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
So I love love love dinosaurs and I love reading about Thanksgiving as that always seems like such a wonderful feast. A combination of both sounds perfect, plus the cover was just the best.
It all starts with the preparations to the feast, we see big and small dinosaurs get groceries, travel to go to family and friends (with airplanes), and then we see each dinosaur make food, have fun, and then the feast starts and boy I wish I could be there. It all looks so good and so yummy and I love how the writer/illustrator made sure that every dinosaur had his own menu, because of course a Triceratops isn't going to be eating the same as a T-rex.
I just loved that this isn't just about the meal, but also about the preparations, about sports (didn't know that was a thing so I learned something new thanks to this book), about family. There is even a bonfire (another thing I didn't know was a Thanksgiving thing, but oh boy that makes the day even more perfect, mm marshmallows).
Can we have the next book be about what was said on the last page? I would love to see dinosaurs celebrate that!
The art was a bit chaotic, but also very fun. I loved how the dinosaurs were drawn and there were no such thing as those silly feathers. Sorry, I have grown up with dinosaurs being big, angry, and scaly, and now suddenly they are chickens. Meh.
I think this book will make a lot of kids happy. It is about a fun feast but also about dinosaurs!
