Thank you Netgalley for sending me an eARC of this book in exchange of an honest review.
The Witchbeast (Awakening) is the first book of The Witchbeast series. As the name suggests, the book follows the story of Silvana, and how she comes to know about some unexpected, shocking and dangerous information about her existence. She is 19, and all her life she thought that she was an ordinary human. Actually the world not only consists of humans, but also different other species of mages, clerics, witches and supernatural. They’ve all learned to co-exist with the help of a very complicated government system which was unfortunately not thoroughly explained in the book. Silvana comes to know that she is actually a brutal, dangerous and illegal kinda creature who was actually created by an outlawed process. So, now she is on run with her best friend Blakely, Armani, and Venison.
This book would have been great, if it was not overly focused on one character only. It felt like a one man show (or one woman show) because all the author seemed to care about was Silvana. The story has a lot of potential, but only if other side characters, and the whole context was thoroughly covered in the book. The romance between Silvana and Armani was extremely rushed, not fully explored. I also felt like there were a number of plot holes, and incomplete sub-plots that were never completed. The only good thing about this book was that it was fast paced, and can be finished in one sitting. Wouldn’t recommend!

The Witchbeast title, cover art and synopsis intrigued me.

Admittedly I did almost quit reading after the first few pages cause I was not expecting *spoiler* the main character to be a sex worker. Nothing wrong with that, but how the scene was written, I wouldn’t appreciated a warning about certain aspects of the storyline.

Overall the writing style was easy to read and flowed well.

Some complaints were the romance aspects weren’t necessary. It felt rushed as times and unrealistic in others. Also it felt like key information was missing in regards to the item they were looking for. It felt very vague and I’m still unsure how it all ties in together. Perhaps that was done purposely and will be revealed later on in the series. My last complaint is the casually brushed off way it was revealed about two of the characters ethnic background. I got the impression it was done as a last thought or was put there to make it seem like a diverse cast. It came up out of nowhere and didn’t add any substance to the overall story line.

Granted even with the issues I had, I do still find the overall idea of The Witchbeast interesting. Hence my three star rating. Others might enjoy it.

Even though this book might not be the most advanced writing you've ever read, I truly enjoyed the story. Some aspects of the story could be explained a bit more in my opinion, since I wasn't 'sucked into' the world as much as I would like. Especially the different kinds of people there are, the way society works with human and supernaturals, the politics, etc.
I did however really like the characters: especially Venison, since he's not a 'predictable' character. I always love characters that are chronically ill, since I feel like a lot of books are missing those :)

I loved Silvana and Armani together, but I want to know what he is. I feel like he's a necromancer, but I want to know for sure! Silvana did have some mood swings, I thought the scene with her kissing Briar was really weird, why on earth would you believe whatever he tells you? That just didn't feel as convincing to me.

I also thought the reveal of her father was quite weird not with him being a necromancer, I honestly didn't really see that coming - also because we didn't really know anything about her parents - but about him being her father. She literally has the same last name, and when she said so in the book, it honestly made me laugh. I mean, how obvious can you be ;p

Even though I feel like a lot of the world should be explained/described in more detail, I did enjoy the story. It's not really like anything I've read before, so I liked that. I am interested to read the next one!

Thank you for allowing me to preview this title. The story was not my cup of tea however. I didn't connect with the characters and was not a fan of being on the run constantly. Best wishes

Parts of this one were slower than others but overall the story was well paced. I loved the characters and the story was fantastic. A first in the series this book does a great job at introducing us to the world and the characters. I do feel that this one didn't feel complete but I know that can happen sometimes with series. I hope that in the next one we get more world building and more background. This book made me want to know more and I can not wait for the next one.

Thank you to the publisher for giving me an advanced copy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

I enjoyed this book a lot,I loved it, it was a lot what I expected and with it, it was something that I wanted.
The plot was so good, it was well paced, and everytime something surprising happens and it doesn't let me get out of the book. something I didn't like but it doesn't matter at all is that some chapter were too long and sometimes nothing extremedly fascinating happened and for that i got a little bored. Also I feel something that went missing in this book was the question of "What was Armani?" I really wanted to know the answer of that question and I think I'll have to wait for the other books to get to kmow the answer.

The way to explain how this new world works is extremedly short but understandable for me, and I want to know more about this new world, and get into it.

Overall, I found this an interesting read, but if felt rushed and a little incomplete. There are some interesting plot ideas and themes, but there was very little world building and a lot of presumed knowledge of how things in this world play out. There’s no explanation of he government setup other than two lines, and there’s little understanding of the parts or scope of the government branches we’re supposed to be so scared of for the main character. I liked that it was fast paced, however it fell to the same issue as the world building and background in general- many important things got skipped. Somehow she’s now in a relationship with the guy who saved her? They just met, had one quick kiss, and now we’re talking couplehood? I literally read this in a few hours, and if this had been fleshed out a little more, this could have been really good. The main character had possibility - she’s 19 and a product of the foster system and thinks she’s human, but finds out she’s a dangerous and illegal creation outlawed for hundreds of years. She fights the government and a member of a cult(referenced but no cult presence) in order to get some freedom and learn her mysterious past. But, you don’t really know more than when you started, and she’s not really free in the end.
