I love a procedural and especially one where the lead investigator has a tie to the case or to the town. Green does a fantastic job of creating a world that you do not want to leave. I was captivated by the story and the mystery the whole time.

The Girls in the Snow was my first Stacy Green novel, but it won't be my last! What an intense foray into the mind of a killer, or in this case, killers. When FBI agent and profiler Nikki Hunt returns to Stillwater Minnesota to help solve the case of two dead teenage girls left in the snow, she's faced with more than the current murders. She's also faced with the reason she left Stillwater. Her parents' murders and the carnage of her life after she found them. Now, twenty years later, and an FBI agent, she's much more prepared to deal with the past, or so she thinks. When she arrives in Stillwater she's instantly faced with the protestors trying to get her parents' killer out of prison. They say she was wrong and Mark Todd didn't kill them. She says she knows what she saw and Mark Todd was their murderer.

Following the clues of the girls' murders wasn't easy for Nikki and her team. With so little to go on, she's forced to confront the step-father of one of the girls, John Banks, her old boyfriend from high school. He was controlling then and he's worse now, something Nikki didn't think was possible. When another woman is found dead in the park, and she is directly linked to John, Nikki begins to suspect that nothing is at it seems in this sleepy little town. When Nikki begins to wonder if what happened twenty years ago is somehow tied to the current situation, she realizes she has to consider what the brother of Mark Todd is saying. Maybe, she needs to look at her parents' case with the eye of an FBI agent and not the eye of a traumatized 16-year-old girl. Not knowing what else to do, she decides if she's going to solve the current murders, she's going to have to open those wounds and look for the clues. If she did help put an innocent man in jail, Nikki can't live with the idea of leaving him there and letting her parents' real killer go unavenged.

Nikki, not knowing who she can trust in a town full of people she used to trust, she turns to her team and the evidence to sort out the story of how Madison and Kaylee died and who was responsible. Just when you think you have it figured out, Ms. Green throws in another twist that blows your theory (and usually Nikki's) apart and puts you back at square one. While the twists and turns were many, when you get to the final scene, you won't be expecting anything that happens next!

As a Wisconsin girl all my life, I loved reading about the towns that I know intimately. The author did a great job of getting the feel of the towns right and if you know Stillwater, you know her depiction of the area and the people were spot on. Having been born and raised in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, it was pretty surreal to read about that town in a book I just happened to pick up! I also loved how the author weaved Nikki's story into the book, showing the reader her vulnerabilities in a way that didn't make her look weak or overly dramatic. If you love serial killers and smart, no-nonsense FBI agents with a heart, then you don't want to miss The Girls in the Snow. I can't wait for book 2 in the Nikki Hunt series!

Wow grab a mug of coffee and a blanket and be prepared to stay there for a long time. This was a stay up way to late to read kind of book. This eerie novel was extremely well written and had a fantastic story line. The characters were well developed and relatable. It incited suspense from the very start. I really enjoyed the fact that it kept me guessing till the very end. There were so many tangled webs to unweave to determine who the killer was. I also found that the 2 simultaneous story lines worked really well in this novel. I highly recommend this read.

What an exciting police procedural! The setting was absolute mint. I loved the snowy Stillwater landscape and felt the biting chill in the air. The hook really drew me in. Two girls found dead in the snow. Was it the serial killer and what does this have to do with Special Agent Nikki Hunt’s teen-hood trauma.

The stillwater setting had that claustrophobic small town feel and poor Nikki, I felt for her on many occasions. The presentation of suspects and the trail of clues were set out perfectly and in a skilful way with just enough misdirection. The forensic references were brilliantly researched and written. I loved the justice theme too and also that sense of having to face your past to move on with your future.

This was a super fast read. I just had to know who murdered those girls and what happened to Nikki. A fabulous and snappy read that I’m sure will be an absolute hit. A bang of a start for this new FBI agent and series!

Nikki Hunt was a mess and a strong cop at the same time. For someone who is being confronted about the past and also in chase on a killer, the character of Nikki hunt is written so well. She is portrayed as a normal human with all feelings of anger, frustration, bitterness of loss, lust, love, friendship and loyalty! That was what I liked the most about this book. She accepted when she was wrong, She stood up for herself and loved her daughter the most! Amazing female lead. Would love to read the next book :)

I kinda guessed the killer midway through the book but the book was developed so well, that i had to keep second guessing myself. The story flowed so well, that i couldn't put it down after i got into it

A murder mystery taking place in Minnesota? We love to see it. This was an enjoyable crime thriller and I could definitely see myself picking up future books in the series. This book kept me guessing the entire time up until the reveal which I can always appreciate in a thriller. There was a lot going on in this seeing as we are trying to unravel two mysteries but I think it was well done and the two complemented each other. And having a mysterious handyman to lust after? Icing on the cake. I’m excited to solve future cases with Nikki!

The Girls in the Snow is the first in a thrilling new series by Stacy Green. Special Agent Nicki Hunt is a layered protagonist that we can root for, both personally and professionally. The twists and turns as she tries to make sense of the present crime and the one that drove her away from this small town twenty years earlier, kept me turning the pages well into the night! I loved the creepy atmosphere of the small town in the dead of winter. I hadn’t read any of Stacy Green’s novels before this, but now I want to go back and read them (there are many). I also look forward to the next in this series.

For my blog and podcast, Gameofbookspodcast.com, we read a lot of books, particularly in the mystery genre. So I can say, without a doubt, has all the makings of a bestselling new series. The Girls in the Snow will be added to my list of holiday gifts for my thriller reading friends and family!

Finally I caught a series in the beginning, and I am so glad I did! This book centers around FBI profiler, Nikki, who returns to her small hometown in MN to investigate the death of 2 teenagers which are potentially tied to a serial killer she has been tracking. Nikki hasn't been back to town since her parents were brutally murdered 20 years prior. The story is told entirely from Nikki's point of view and does a good job in integrating the ghosts from Nikki's past with the new crime she is trying to solve.

Nikki is a believable and likable character- she is smart and super tough and isn't afraid to call someone out, but she also admits when she is wrong, and shows a vulnerable side as well. The mystery surrounding the murder of the 2 girls is well-done; there are many different contenders who could have been the villain and the book does an amazing job at throwing out very believable red herrings.

My only small nit is that there was a little bit of romance folded into the story and I could have done without that- I don't want anything to take away from the mystery that is being investigated.

Overall, this was a great book and I'd recommend it to those who enjoy mysteries and police procedurals. I am excited to read the next book in the series! Thanks to Netgalley for providing me this book in exchange for an honest review.

Nikki is invited to Stillwater, Minnesota to investigate a case that the local police department thinks might be linked to a serial killer she is hunting. Two teenagers have been found frozen in a field but one look and Nikki knows it is not the work of her killer. Nevertheless she decides to stay on Stillwater, the place where her parents were murdered, and solve the case.

I enjoyed The Girls in the Snow which is a dual stranded tale that held my attention throughout. It is told entirely from Nikki’s point of view which is appropriate as both plot lines revolve around her because, as a former resident, she knows many of the people involved in the investigation and also because her parents’ killer is seeking a judicial review of his conviction due to new facts coming to light. These facts have her questioning what she thought she knew. I actually found this second strand the more compelling read, involving as it does much doubt and self examination. This is not normally my bag but in this case I loved what unfolded.

The novel has an easy, readable style and an absorbing plot which builds gradually to a solution that explains everything (not always a foregone conclusion). The two plot lines keep the novel and Nikki busy so there is rarely a dull moment and there is a myriad of relationships and motivations to sort through. It is not, however, difficult to follow or understand. It is a good start to the series and I will be interested to read more.

Nikki is an FBI agent who is called to her hometown to solve the murder of two young girls. The problem is, Nikki hasn’t been back there in a long time, her parents were murdered there twenty years ago, she helped convict the murderer and as soon as she was able to she went away to college and never looked back.

It isn’t long before her past catches up with her due to the current murders, one of the girls is her ex-boyfriend’s step-daughter, could this be awkward? Also, there are protesters trying to get the convicted murder of her parents out of jail, she was convinced he killed her parents, but as time goes on, things don’t seem so black and white anymore.

Wow, this had me on the edge of my seat from the very beginning and I couldn’t put my Kindle down, this was written exceptionally well, the story flowed so well, with so many twists and turns I honestly could not guess what was going to happen and who the murderer actually was, okay so I thought it was the obvious person, I was wrong.

When it was finally revealed I was left wide-mouthed. It was absolutely fantastic and so real to life.

This is one of the best books I have read this year!

Stacy Green is an author who is new to me but, I need to read more from her. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

This novel is based in Stillwater, Minnesota, where special agent Nikki Hunt grew up. Nikki moved away as soon as she could after having a hard childhood because her parents were murdered. She is brought back to her home town on a job assignment. After being gone for 20 years. She discovers that the victims are 2 young girls frozen in a field. They were placed there thinking they would never be found. When Nikki finds out that one of the victim's stepdad is John her ex-boyfriend when she was 16 she feels more connected to the case and really wants to solve it. The pass comes back to haunt Nikki and makes her relive a lot of emotion. Will she concentrate on the case and find the killer and will her past be put to rest?

This book was amazing!! The storyline was soo good it flowed great and wasn't predictable at all. Like my guess's for the killer were everywhere. Once I started reading I couldn't stop. I just needed to find out what happens next. I really like the setting of the dark small town. Nikki is one hot mess I don't blame her but she's also one strong lady. Perfect female lead. I love the relationship between her and Rory. I'm happy she did what was right in the end. Everything worked in this book. The author did an awesome job. Il totally be looking at more books from her and I really hope there's a second book to this one.

I recommend this book to people that like the CSI/Criminal mind type things.

Great start to a new series. When FBI profiler Nikki Hunt returns to her hometown to investigate murders that resemble those of a serial killer she's been hunting, she must also deal with a hearing to consider new exculpatory evidence of the boy who was convicted of killing her parents 20 years earlier. The past and present collide in some surprising ways and make for a great read.
I was afraid it was going to be a typical female cop/agent returns to her hometown years after a horrible crime, but this was so much more. Nikki's past has shaped who she is but it doesn't define her as the strong but very flawed female protagonist like so many others written in this vein. Full of interesting characters and a deftly written mystery kept me turning pages to find out who did it. The ending set the stage for the next book in this series.

Here in Southern California as well as across the world the awful pandemic has me a bit depressed, record breaking/historic heat wave last weekend, now terrible out of control fires across the state leaving us in a smoky haze. Soooo! I thought a novel with “Snow” in the title might be just what I need.

This story is the first in a new series introducing FBI Special Agent Nikki Hunt.

Really two stories involving Nikki “Back then” and “Now”.
Nikki has returned to her hometown Stillwater, Minnesota after twenty years. She left her hometown
when she was 16.
Back then, Nikki snuck out of her house to go to a party. When she returned her parents were murdered.
Now Nikki is investigating the case of Madison and Kaylee both of the 15-year old girls disappeared mid-October. Madison had texted her friend that she and Kaylee would be taking the nature trail through the woods but should be there in 10/15 minutes. However they never showed up.

Two months later they are both found frozen in the snow. Nikki and the police department are preparing to tell the family when Madison’s step dad John Banks shows up. Turns out he is the former boyfriend of Nikki.
So “Back then” creeps into the story. Nikki’s parents refused to let her date John as he was in college and 4 years older. Yep he is the reason, Nikki snuck out to be with when her parents were killed.

Don’t want to say too much, but there are twists and turns.
The fact, I gave this 4 stars lets you know it was a good read for me! I like Nikki, and look forward to the next novel in this series. Also like this author and will read another one of her novels!

A really gripping thriller.
Nikki Hunt an acclaimed FBI agent is heading back into her worst nightmare. Two girls have been found frozen in the town of Stillwater, Nikki has to go back to her home town and face her nightmares.
A vey interesting and hard to put down book.
I loved it, and nearly died as we got closer to the suspect, a very likely suspect that you totally don’t think about. Fast paced and thrilling.

WOW! I was very impressed with the writing in this book from the very first pages this author makes sure to grab your attention!! Nikki Hunt is back in Stillwater to see if a serial killer is in her hometown but when she is back in her hometown she has to face her past. Nikki's parents were murdered by Mark Todd or was it him? There are two stories going on in this book and they actually end up intermingling . Which of course you don't know till half way into this book .I just loved how this author tells both story lines and flips between the two seamlessly. This book kept me reading into the night ! Perfect mystery,a bit of suspense and a great female lead character. I look forward to reading the next in the series. Highly recommend reading this book. It is the start to a great series.

I was attracted to this book because of it’s cover and once I read the premise, I just couldn’t wait to get started.

This book is written so well and it full of suspense and twists. Both the plot lines in the book go at such an amazing fast pace that you just don’t want to put the book down until you know how the end plays out.

Being the first book in a new series, it is a great start. The main character Nikki Hunt along with her team is also pretty good. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Overall, an amazing book it keeps you hooked on right till the end!
