Such a timely book in the chaos our world. The author does a great job with talking about boundaries and rest. I like how she always brings scripture into her writing. We as women sometimes define rest in a particular way and in that we don’t always find mental or spiritual rest. This is a Much needed read right now. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy.
In Rest Now, Kelly Balarie takes us on a journey of self-discovery. In part one, she shows us, through her own experiences, that of others, and through the scriptures the very roots of the unrest in our own mind, spirit, and soul. We find rest when we abide in Christ. When we abide in Him our rest becomes positional...not conditional. He leads us to rest in Him. He carries the burdens. But what exactly does that look like? How do we accomplish this...this operating from this position of rest?
In part two of her book, she gives us practical steps that can lead you to learn to operate out of His peace and joy no matter the circumstances of your life.
If you are yearning to live a lifestyle of rest, this just book just might give you the tools you need to bring you into a greater understanding of what it means to abide in Him...and in doing so...you will find rest.
With all of the world in mayhem, I couldn't have received this book in the mail at a better time--when I'm worn, weary, and worried. I love the way Kelly has outlined how to "come away" with Christ and particularly found purchase with Chapter 13: The Heart of Boundaries. If you loved "Battle Ready", this book is one you won't want to miss!
I urge you to take your time and read this book while considering what you have defined rest as in the past as compared to now. Many times I have felt the need to be everything to everyone, not realizing until it’s too late that it’s impossible to do. And then I think…at what expense? What has this cost me? My peace, my relationships, my boundaries, on and on…
God doesn’t require this of us, and when we fully embrace rest, we embrace who God calls us to be. Rest Now offers us this perspective and it doesn’t stop short of urging us to do some introspection and create what’s necessary for this type of margin. Whether it is setting boundaries, creating a decluttered space – physically, mentally, or emotionally, or embracing healthy relationships, it’s all a part of the big picture – rest.
This is a very timely book, so thank you for ending each chapter in prayer and inviting us into personal reflection with scriptures and thought-provoking questions.
I received an advance reader copy of this book, thank you to the publishers and to Kelly Balarie.
Choose To Rest
In a normal year so many things can take away our rest and peace of mind. But we all know this isn't a normal year so things seem to be exasperated even more. I am thankful for the author's words of wisdom and guidance using her own experiences and Biblical knowledge. As she helps the reader chose to rest in Christ centered ways.
I have so many quotes highlighted below are a few:
"Distraction around us can lead to distraction within us, if we are not careful."
"Words have staying power. Especially negative words. We feel them deeply."
"We have a “different spirit” when we agree with God rather than outside voices."
"What if you appreciated what you do have rather than what you don’t?"
I received an advance readers copy of this book. This is my honest review. I'd highly recommend it to others.
Kelly's books are always down to earth. As I'm reading Rest Now, I feel as tho Kelly is sitting next to me with a cup of coffee. This book is unique in the fact I can feel the teaching and reaching out to me and when I have inward question, it seems as though the question is answered when I flip the page.
You don't have to be a part of any ministry, just be searching for God and how to walk in His ways....and Rest Now will help you get heart headed in the correct direction. Thanks Kelly for your wonderful insights and teaching into the human hearts and for directions that help us get started!!!!
