This lacks the humor of the others in my opinion. Heavy on the lazy puns. Tries to seem fairly non-denominational but leans heavily on Christian holiday traditions. Just feels more like a holiday cash grab than a quality book in the series.

Narwhal and Jelly can do no wrong. They are popular with parents, librarians, and readers. The comics are charming, easy-to-read, and hilariously funny. In this book, Narwhal and Jelly get the holiday treatment as the best friends try to find the perfect gifts for everyone under the ocean.

It’s winter and Narwhal and Jelly are ready to celebrate! Narwhal is excited to await the arrival of the Merry Mermicorn. She’s part mermaid and part unicorn, and she delivers gifts. Jelly has never heard of her and doesn’t think she’s real. When Jelly gets a mysterious gift, he suspects it’s from Narwhal so he has to find the perfect gift for his cheerful and festive best friend.

I love the Narwhal and Jelly books! Narwhal has a cheerful innocence, while Jelly is suspicious of everything. They balance each other out and try to teach each other about new things.

There were some cute water inspired festive songs and sayings in the story. The Merry Mermicorn was like Santa Claus. They sang songs like “Jingle Shells” and “We Fish You a Merry Mermicorn.” The Turtle and Shelly even went to light a “minnow-orah.”

Happy Narwhalidays is an adorable holiday children’s book!

Thank you Tundra Books for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was not as good as the other Narwhal and Jelly books but my son still enjoyed it and I still found it a cute read to share with him.

I love Narwhal and Jelly so much! This was a cute holiday theme, with tons of cute puns. Illustrations were great, as always. Kids will love this series! Can't wait to join them on their next adventure!

Thank you to Ben Clanton, Tundra Books, and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review!

I get there is a following for these characters. My own daughter anxiously waited for this to come out.

I could only imagine die hard fans buying this book. Granted in hardback with some snazzy red rainbows on the cover, it's pretty, but I don't see the $ value in it. Obviously, I'm not the right person to want this.

That said, here's what we like about the series: the small educational moments with facts and trivia about sea life/creatures, the puns (some are really too corny to be good, I would love for the author to up the level in cleverness) and the art is cute.

The Narwhal stories are some of my and my students favorite books to read. I buy classroom copies of the books every time a new one comes out and they fly off my shelves as soon as one gets brought back. This is book 5 in the series. Narwhal and Jelly are spreading holiday cheer. It is a collection of short stories about Narwhal's favorite time of year.

I love how grumpy Jelly is about the cold. It is like seeing myself in the pages of the story. I don't normally enjoy Christmas books, but this one was so adorable I couldn't put it down. The characters are so expressive and I loved getting to see all of my favorites make an appearance.

I cannot wait to get my hands on a physical copy of the book.

Thank you Penguin Random House and NetGalley for this eARC in exchange for an honest review. My daughter and I are huge Narwhal and Jelly fans and this holiday book was soooo much fun. I loved the mermicorn and the music. I loved the friendship, of course, and the puns were on spot.

Oh my gosh, that was cute! Can science please figure out how to bottle Narwhal's enthusiasm, so I can chug it? I love the friendship between these two, it's very sweet. The humor is dorky and fun, and the artwork is adorable! I like the science/nature facts mixed in too. A jolly holiday read!

I'm a big fan of the Narwhal and Jelly books. They're filled with cute characters, puns, and waffles. I was really looking forward to this book because Christmas AND Narwhal and Jelly sounded perfect! However, it did fall a bit short for me. The other books had moments where I actually laughed out loud, but this one didn't have that. I thought it was cute, but not any special especially compared to the other books in the series. If your kids are fans of Narwhal and Jelly then this book is a must-buy, but I do think it is the weakest one in the series.

How do you decide what to give your very best friend for Christmas? Always a challenge!

Ahhhhhhhhh. I know I say that every time, but these books just make me so happy. I love the innocence and fun of Narwhal and Jelly. I love the puns and the play on words, and how these two friends think of each other and help each other out. This is another stellar book in a stellar series.

My children absolutely loved this book!! I can't wait to give it to some friends and family for Christmas this year.

With Narwhal and Jelly, you pretty much know what to expect. They're simply entertaining to read, a couple dozen pages of silliness, in the vein of Elephant and Piggie. A pair of friends with quirky personalities. While this is a holiday book the message of generosity and gift giving is generic enough you could probably enjoy it year round.

My Review: My son is a huge fan of the Narwhal and Jelly books and I have to admit so am I, so I was very excited to see a new one coming out. The creativity in these books is fantastic, to come up with carols that work for undersea creatures is something to behold. In classic Narwhal & Jelly manner, we have a great story about friendship and of course a few facts and a lot of laughs. This is a great book for young readers, the images are bold and minimal with limited text on the page. The fun characters and details with will keep even the most reluctant readers coming back for more. This book also has a great message about the magic of gift giving, a perfect read for the holiday season.

There are currently five comics in the Narwhal and Jelly series, and I have read every single one. I love this series so much! It’s so cute and an excellent introduction of comics and graphic novels to kiddos. I plan to give my niece a set of this for the holidays. She’s 8 and is growing into quite the little nerd, a source of pride for me and the bro.

This collection has several adventures of our duo, including the belief in a unicorn narwhal who brings gifts and the troubles of finding the perfect gift for a friend. It seemed a little shorter to me than previous volumes, but it’s kind of like the Christmas Special of BBC shows, an extra special issue that kind of operates outside of a series while simultaneously still being part of it, a one shot if you will.

As usual, I loved the cleverness of Clanton’s writing and art. I love the adaptation of some of our own traditions to Narwhal and Jelly’s world, and I giggled more than once at their antics.

If you’re already in the mood for the winter holidays, this one is out now, and I have definitely seen it on a holds list at my local library, so it’s available and waiting.

This is a fun series and Happy Narwhalidays is a cute holiday addition to the adventure of Narwhal and Jelly. A great first graphic novel series for young readers, I like how the include facts about many of the undersea creatures as well as an entertaining story. A good one to read to get you into the holiday spirit!

Fun, Puns, and the Holidays

This is my first time reading any tales of Narwhal and Jelly, and I found the stories both sweet and funny. Puns certainly abound, which is always fun in a children's book. The illustrations are simple, yet the illustrator is able to get across some very lovely expressions on the sea creatures’ faces. The two main characters are waiting for the Mermicorn (half unicorn, half mermaid) to show up. Jelly doesn't believe in it while Narwhal does. We see some different winter holiday traditions of some sea creatures, like lighting the minnow-rah with bioluminescence. Jelly believes that Narwhal has given him a nice gift, and much of the book is Jelly looking for the perfect gift for Narwhal. The author scatters information about the sea and sea creatures throughout the book. The creature who gave Jelly his gift is a surprise at the end. One fun thing I enjoyed is that it included two Christmas carols that had been changed to reflect the sea environment. Fun book.
