I was not sure what to expect with this book but was very interested in understanding some of the backgrounds behind how our country got to be where it is today. Unfortunately I did not have the time to completely finish this book.

This book is a collection of different essays that were written over a large period of time, on the future of the American country, and how we got to where we are today. The country is in a time of turmoil due to the tensions between conservatives and liberalistic ideas of utopia. While improvement is always a benefit of some liberal ideas, there is a need to have a balance, unheated conversation about where we are going, and why.

Reading the ideas of other people is helpful to understand why we have gotten to the point that we are, politically. I think that a lot of people need to take some time to understand what people have thought throughout history, where our ideas come from, and to look at the various points of view with a new eye. This was an interesting collection of thoughts of liberals. While it does not represent everyone or maybe not even many, it was a very enlightening read and collection of thoughts.
