Quick Summary: Beautifully illustrated and so well done!
My Review: Manga Classics has done it again with this beautifully illustrated story on Anne of Green Gables. I have nothing but praise for this graphic rendering. It was so well done. It evoked just as many feelings as when I read the novel and watched the PBS special. It pulled on my heartstrings. That gets an A+.
This book will do much to introduce a new generation to a beloved classic. It will also provide a fresh take for those who are children at heart.

I was left wanting to see more after watching the show, so I'm glad I got to read this. It was lovely, a short and quick read. You definitely enjoy it more if you're a fan of the original books or the show, Anne with an E.
A cute and cosy little read, a more simple way to read a classic! It's beautifully illustrated and the dialoges are great
Ever since watching ‚Anne with an E‘ I love Anne Shirley’s world and the Manga is a great way to read her story without the old language of the book (at least for a not native speaker like me). The only downside is that the story ends in the middle and I now have to wait and buy a second book
Manga Classics: Anne of Green Gables is a moving book about an orphan girl hoping to be adopted. She is a feisty, plucky, red-haired girl with a big imagination and heart. I really enjoyed this manga graphic novel, not having read many manga books before. It stays true to the original book, and tells the story well in the comic strips. Unlike many other adapted novels, having read the original book, I think it does not matter whether you read the original book or graphic novel first.
Thank you for taking the time to read my review!
I loved this story. I have been meaning to read it for years. This adaptation was accessable and a great joy to read. I would recommend it to anyone.
Going back to the world of “Anna of Green Gables” Felt like coming home. Anna Green Gable is an amazing tale of a young girl finding her way through curious and sometimes odd situations . This manga brought forth the nostalgia feelings I have for this story as well as added new interpretations. I thoroughly enjoyed all of Anne’s antics in the manga! The artistry showcased in manga perfectly matched the whimsical tone of “Anne of green Gables”.
Overall I enjoyed the storytelling, plot, dialogue and the art style,
A delightful adaptation on a beloved classic. Beautiful artwork that depeicted perfectly Anne's story. While the story itself spanned several years, this adaptation did well at consolidating the story. Very true to the story of Anne of Green Gables.
Anne of Green Gables is a classic story that many children, and adults, have loved for years. Thanks to this manga adaptation, many children who find reading hard will be able to understand the story much better.
A nice little graphic novel adaptation of the timeless classic Anne of Green Gables. Staying true to both the plot and language of L.M. Montgomery's original book, this manga introduces children to the lovable character of Anne Shirley, an orphan who comes to live with the elderly Cuthbert siblings and turns their lives upside down. This book does a good job of capturing Anne's volubility and fertile imagination, and presenting her adventures with friends and neighbours. The illustrations could be somewhat gentler/softer given that this is a very tranquil, non-action-packed story though. Right now some of the pictures give a feeling of tension or frenzy that is not commensurate with the tone of the original novel. Otherwise, this is a good introduction that will hopefully inspire young readers to read the original full novel!
a classic read, oh do i love Anne dearly. the art is also so pretty. Her personality shines through the bubbly, energetic, oh i want to see everything and anything.
I simply love Anne!
And when I found out about this manga i had to give it a shot and read it and I am amazed. The art style is beautiful, clean and the characters are well developed and executed.
I love the silly faces they sometimes make.
It is a great version to present the younger audience so they can read some classics or maybe well known and beloved stories from their childhood.
I really love this childrens classic and reading it in the manga style was a treat. The illustrations really added to the stories and the cosy feeling of the book and brings green gables to life. If you enjoy manga and these classics I would highly recommend picking up these editions.
Anne Of Green Gables is a classic and of the best! One of my students loves manga and classics, so when I found this book I knew he would love it. As told after he read it he gave me a thumbs up so I suppose that is a 10/10 plus a 10/10 for me. The art is one of a kind and original. Thank You.
This manga is just beautiful!! To relive the joy that was Anne of Green Gables from my childhood, that I used to watch as an animated show and was always beyond excited for the next episode.
The illustrations and art work in this manga are beautiful and truly captured the spirit of Anne in all her glory and magical advantures.... because everything was an adventure for her and every place was magical.
If you want to be transported back to being a child and seeing Anne once more, this is definitely a wonderful book to do so!!
I loved this book!!!
I love Anne of Green Gables and I was so excited to revisit this story in a manga adaption!
The illustrations were so gorgeous (especially Anne’s character design!!! SHE’S SO PRETTTY!!)! They did a fantastic job adapting this story! It perfectly captured the all of the plots, personalities and emotions of the orignal book! Seeing Anne, Matthew, Mariella, Diana, and Gilbert again made me so happy!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an eArc in exchange for an honest review

Manga Classics has a great track record with me – I have DIK’d their Emma, Sense and Sensibility, and Jane Eyre – so I was excited to see that they were trying Anne of Green Gables. And they didn’t let me down! This fun, energetic visual rendering of a classic story will satisfy long-time Anne fans and win new ones.
The story of Anne of Green Gables – an older brother and sister decide to adopt a boy, get Anne by mistake, and decide to keep her – is generally known, so I’ll focus on what makes the graphic novel work.
The dialogue. This adaptation was officially supported by the Montgomery estate on the condition that they use original text, so the graphic novel retains the feel and sound of the original.
The art. The house of Green Gables is meticulously depicted based on the actual house in Prince Edward’s Island. The characters are terrific, from Anne’s bouncy pigtails to Diana’s dark-haired beauty, from the kindly Matthew to the more severe-looking Marilla. Oh, and never fear – the author and artist capture Anne’s beloved puff-sleeved dress. (My only disappointment was Gilbert’s hair, which sticks up like he’s from a kid’s action manga like Dragon Ball Z and feels out of tone). And the landscapes? Almost worthy of Anne’s verbose ecstasies.
Anne.
While I like Anne in the books, I prefer the character as she ages. Honestly, I find the opening sequence where she babbles about how wonderful everything is and gives it all twee names (the famous “Lake of Shining Waters”) kind of annoying. I’ve never seen a film adaptation of it that didn’t leave me wanting the actress playing Anne to shut up.
Somehow, though, Manga-Anne worked for me in a way that no other Anne ever has – not even Anne from the book. Maybe it’s the way that her commentary is spaced out across pages rather than dumped in one text block, giving us a break from the rhapsodies. Maybe it’s the illustrations, with the charming sights and Anne herself appearing authentically starstruck, like someone for whom a clean pond is a wonder on par with Disneyland. Flashback images of Anne struggling as the orphan servant in other households strike the right balance, inspiring empathy for Anne without being grim.
The manga is labeled by chapters. It works, in the sense that sometimes we need a title to tell us a new section of story is starting, but it also has its drawbacks. The adapter included, I think, every single chapter of the book, and that’s a lot to fit into a graphic adaptation, even a three hundred page one. On multiple occasions, chapters are squished to just one page. It would have more fluid for such short chapters to be omitted. One especially jarring example? A brief chapter about Anne accidentally dying her hair green ends with her hair all chopped, but her waist-length braids are back on the next page. That’s a heck of a time skip.
On the whole, though, this is a joyful read. I devoured this book, smiling the entire time, and then immediately went to order copies for gifts. If you love Anne in other formats, you’ll love her in manga, too – and you might even love her more.
