This manga classic has probably been my absolute favorite of all the ones I have read so far. The art really captured Anne's personality, which was probably my favorite part of the whole book.
I think the most important parts of the story were captured and I wasn't left confused. I have read Anne of Green Gables, so I know how the story goes. It's one of my absolute favorite classics and I think this manga did very well by it. Definitely recommend.

I'm a big fan of Anne of Green Gables. I read the books, watched the live movie adaptation, and watched the anime (Akage no Anne, I highly recommend watching this.) So I'm pretty ecstatic to find out that there's actually a manga version! It's drawn so prettily and captured the essence of the book. The dialogue is just like in the book, which I thought was really cool. It's pretty much the same but in a different art form. There's also an instruction at the beginning how to read manga, for readers who aren't used to reading them which I appreciate.

This is a good alternative to reading the book if you have kids. I totally recommend this as much as I recommend reading the original book. Even L.M. Montgomery's grand daughter like it, and had written the foreword.

Delightful! Another winner from Manga Classics! This adaptation has beautiful artwork that fits the characters and story, and the text presents the story and characters of the original faithfully. Sure to make new Anne fans, and an enjoyable read for current Anne fans.

Growing up I have loved the story of Anne of Green Gables. It’s definitely a comfort story for me. I have read a few of the manga classics that have been published (Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre, etc) and as soon as I saw that they had done an Anne of Green Gables version I had to buy it. This adaptation was cute and followed the story version of the 1985 movie series (which I also absolutely adore!)

I love these manga classics! The art style is so cute and pretty. And Anne of Green Gables. She reminds me to stay a kid, full of creativity and fun... Not getting dragged down by life. Anne is a great character to follow. I enjoyed the art style and the story of course. I've read the story over many times. 5 out of 5 stars.

This is the first version of Anne Of Green Gables I have read. I have seen a movie adaption of the book by L.M. Montgomery. This manga version of the book was a good overview with lovely details and beautiful manga illustrations. The manga style was very nicely illustrated. And the storyline gives a good overview of Anne, her relationships, and her growing up.

It is indeed a Manga Classic. I recommend this book to people who are a fan of stories like Anne of Green Gables, and manga fans who love the classics too.

having grown up loving Anne of Green Gables, it was so much fun to get to experience it again as a manga! i read a lot of manga as a kid as well so it was like double whammy of nostalgia and both familiar and new at the same time. Such a fun idea and lovely execution! I was also glad that they included a refresher course in reading manga at the beginning, that definitely helped. I wish I could have read this on my kindle instead of the NetGalley Shelf app because my phone screen is much smaller but at least I could zoom in, but I understand the limitations of manga arcs.

Manga Classics: Anne of Green Gables is the manga adaptation of the classic book Anne of Green Gables. I loved how the book caught the beauty and innocence of Anne so perfectly. The story was beautiful, as well as the art. I'll recommend this book to the kids and people who want to read classics but face difficulties because of it's the language barrier.

This book is the only authorized manga adaption of Anne of Green Gables by the Heirs of L.M. Montgomery. It includes a foreword by Kate McDonald Butler - granddaughter of the original author.

First I want to say that I seem to never get used to the reading style of manga which is from right to left and from top to bottom. But since I know the story well I did not struggle extensively.

I think the manga does justice to the beauty of the original books. Artists managed to capture Anne's spirit, emotions of the characters, the era story is set, etc. But even though the book is in manga format and that's why it's black and white I longed for colors. I would like to see Anne's hair color (it's a big part of the story) or the nature of Prince Edward Island in all its glory. That would be more appropriate to the essence of the story.

Thank you to NetGalley and Manga Classics Inc., Manga Classics for providing ARC for reviewers. While I appreciate Advance Reader Copy it is disappointing to receive a low-resolution preview. I've been requesting comics, graphic novels, etc. from NetGalley for a while now and this was the first time receiving a nearly blurry copy. I understand that the company is trying to protect their copyrights but I hope they would be more considerate in the future.

I love everything about this Manga. Excellent adaptation! I wanted to read the novel version of this but I'm intimidated to read a classic book. I'm happy that it was adapted into Manga. Recommended for all ages! Well done.

Many thanks to Manga Classics Inc. and to Netgalley for this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

This is an interesting interpretation of 'Anne of Green Gables'. However, no one should have this replace the actual book. That is head and shoulders superior to this version. As the writer admits at the end, she was carrying a political ax to grind. That grinding isn't overt, unless you read the intended writing of the actual author.

Beyond the ax grinding the rest is swiped from the original and cut apart to aid the sequential storytelling goal. The artistic layout is mostly good. At times confusing as there is too strong an effort to draw emotion and not tell story. The art is also OK, but someone better at rendering figures would have made the whole stronger. The faces are typical manga-esque and seem nearly cut and paste from thousands of other "manga". The author writes at the end there was some sort of staff involved with production. Reading this had me wonder what this "staff" was doing during the production of this book. The whole should be far, far greater with that in consideration.

For instance, the source material puts written focus on the settings. Yet, the settings are rarely shown. Not unusual for 'manga', but not acceptable in graphic interpretation of the original book. What is artistically rendered is sparse and never reflects Anne's exuberance of where she is living. A staff should have made sure this was not missing.

Overall, the book is worth reading... with a name change... 'Geraldine of Chartreuse Fields'.
If a book is to be altered so much, might as well start fresh! :)

Bottom line: I recommend the book. 5 out of ten points.

Note: My ability to read this book is due to the availability through NetGalley.com.

I loved this book and great to see it in this format. The pictures were cute and I felt more invested with the story. Would love to have more of my favorite books turned into graphic novels/mangas

I really like how we’re adapting old stories into manga
I really liked the art work and story. It was a nice walk down memory lane. Wouldn’t buy a physical though

A lovely companion to the classic tale. Charming and beautifully rendered. My daughter, 8, also enjoyed this manga version.

It's time for the moment of truth: I haven't read Lucy Maud Montgomery's original books, despite the fact that they're considered "classics" and have lately gone even more viral thanks to Netflix's adaptation "Anne with an E". And somehow this manga does really encourage me to pick up the original works!

I have to admit that I found Anne quite annoying at times (but I still adore her!!!) and Gil just looks like a shounen manga protagonist. Some chapters are just too short (about one page or two) and I would much love to see more of the story. As a result, some characters (such as Ms Stacy) receive insufficient pagetime and development.

I personally like Crystal S. Chan's notes at the end of the book regarding her experiences with this adaptation. I really appreciate that, and I hope to see more perspectives from writers, book editors, and others in the future books!

Since I watched the Netflix show, Anne with an E, I really wanted to read this book since it was another adaptation. First off, the art style is plain gorgeous. Characters like Anne are drawn which such great emotion, and it was easy for me to identify which character is who. I also love the story because even though the original story was written a while ago, I feel like it tackles big issues in a great way. My one negative is how the writing style wasn't really adapted to the modern-day but was from the original book. I personally had a hard time reading this writing style. However, this should not take away from the art style and the amazing characters portrayed!

I received an eARC copy of this title through NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Anne of Green Gables is a classic literature story. I honestly loved this edition. I had not read Anne of Green Gables since I was in elementary school, but this manga edition makes me want to reread it. I thought the art was beautiful, the story intriguing and well paced, and the characters were interesting and compelling. I honestly cannot say how close this book is to the original book, but it definitely hooks you. The flow of the story made sense for the most part. There were a couple of sections I did not quite understand or felt like they came out of nowhere. Other than that, I highly recommend this book!
