I received an ebook version of this Manga Classics edition of Anne of Green Gables from NetGalley. It even has a forward by Kate McDonald Butler- granddaughter of L. M. Montgomery. This is the first Manga book that I have ever read. This one is really cute and features the original heart of Anne of Green Gables. It has some amazing artwork. I will definitely be looking for the physical copy to add to my Anne collection. If you like Anne you will like this edition.

How embarrassing, but I will admit that this is the first that I’ve ever read Anne of Green Gables. WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG?!

Anne is amazing. Free, fun, and lives life to the fullest. This is also the first true Manga that I’ve read, and it was great! The drawings captured the true emotions of the characters.

Now off to read the original version, too.

Thank you to NetGalley for this advance reader copy!

Anne of Green Gables was the series that got me into reading. That being said, this manga had some big shoes to fill. And it delivered.

The art was fantastic. The manga style fits with Anne and her temper and attitude perfectly, while still portraying Marilla, Matthew, and the rest of the town of Avonlea with the properness and poise that they all exude. The only character I didn't visually like was Gilbert Blythe.

The other aspect that I paid close attention to was the accuracy. I know that they have made many adaptations of Anne of Green Gables over the decades. This one was definitely one of the more accurate adaptations. Though I found they skipped a few parts over from the original story, all the character-shaping events for Anne, Diana, and Gilbert (as well as Matthew and Marilla) were all still included.

I highly recommend this manga as an alternative in introducing a new reader to Anne. It was lovely and provided an easier read than the original.

This Manga adaptation of Anne of Green Gables was a treat. The script was excellent, with many passages coming directly from the book or adapted from the book. All of the main scenes were there, though of course some scenes were omitted as a graphic novel is necessarily an abridged version. Although a number of Anne's schoolfriends were mentioned, the focus was more on her relationship with her best friend Diana and her rivalry with Gilbert. Her growing and changing relationship with Marilla and Matthew is also well done.

The art was really good. The only thing I found a bit disconcerting was that every now and then, the eyes of the characters would be drawn as either hollow circles or completely black circles, and occasionally the mouth would be drawn almost like a ventriloquist's dummy's mouth. These were usually at times of high emotion, so that might be a Manga thing, but I found that a little creepy. The images were usually beautiful. As it's Manga, the pages are also read right to left. This usually wasn't a problem, but once in a while I forgot to do that.

There were a few pages at the end where the scriptwriter gave some insights into how this book came about and how she worked together with the artist. I always like a 'behind the scenes' look, so that was interesting.

If you like Anne of Green Gables, you should enjoy this adaptation. It's a good heart-warming story suitable for all ages. I'll have to check out other books in the Manga Classics series.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a free digital edition in exchange for an honest review.

I have to say when I saw that Anne Of Green Gables was made into a Manga. I got very excited cause Anne Of Green Gables one my favorite classic from my childhood. If you haven't read Anne Of Green Gables you need to. It's thebest book you will ever read. It follows the life of Anne orphaned when she was very smalls. Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert had asked for a boy to help Matthew around at Green Gables. But they got Anne instead and Matthew grew to love Anne and let Marilla know that they should keep her. Little did Marilla know that she to would love Anne. So they kept her and havent regreted it at all. I will do a more indepth review on my booktube channel at the end of the month with my monthly wrap up. I highly recommend this manga and I will be getting it in a physical copy cause thats how much I loved it.

This is a faithful adaptation of the classic Anne of Green Gables story, presented in traditional manga format.
Being a traditional manga, the pages must be read right-left, which takes some getting used to fof western readers (I was expecting a graphic novel format), and while the majority of the illustrations were beautifully rendered there were some that I found particularly jarring.

Fans of both manga and the classic tale will enjoy this book, but it wasn't for me.

A delightful and succinct adaptation of the classic in a popular modern format. Will be adding this to our collection which already includes the Manga Scarlet Letter adaptation.

What a fantastic manga adaptation of the beloved story Anne of Green Gables! I'd quite forgotten how good this story was, and reading the manga makes me want to go back and read the actual book! I will admit I was a little disappointed that the book did not include the scene where Anne falls off the roof. Overall though, I was happy with this adaptation.

Manga meets children's book! A really well done conversion of the children's book classic. The illustrator has a very nice style that fits well with the story.

I have always loved this story! Come wander down The White Way, and stroll past the Lake of Shining Waters to get lost in Green Gables. This retelling of the classic tale follows the story of Anne Shirley an 11 year old orphan mistakenly sent to live with brother and sister Matthew and Marilla. They had wanted to adopt a boy to help around their farm, and were disappointed that a girl was sent.. However, after meeting Anne and seeing what a unique way that she sees the world, they decide to let her stay. The story follows Anne as she adjusts to life in Avonlea and Green Gables, and as she grows up. This is an older story, but the message and main points of it are timeless. Anne is not afraid to be herself, no matter what anyone else may say. She is even a bit of a feminist in a pre-feminism world. I think this story is still relevant to the modern girl, especially told in this manga format. Reading it this way clears out the older language style that may be confusing for some readers, but the message still remains clear through the dialogue and illustrations. I wasn't sure that I would like reading this in this style, but it was so good that I read the whole thing in just a few hours! At the end of the book the author has a few pages to explain the writing process of changing a classic book to a manga, and I thought that was a great addition. This is one you should definitely give a try, no matter your age. I can't wait to read more in this manga classics series!

Prince Edward Island had no idea what it was in for when Anne Shirley came to town! Siblings Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert had intended to adopt a boy to help them on their farm...enter Anne. She is bright and curious and brightens up everyone's lives...and causes a little trouble along the way.

I don't read manga very often, but when I saw this was a retelling of Anne of Green Gables I checked it out immediately. It was a fun read and the graphics were very cute. I wonder if the other books in the series will ever be published.

I was provided this book to read in exchange for an honest opinion. I'd like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.

Very sweet artwork. The manga does a nice job of translating Montgomery's classic novel, sticking very closely to the original source material. A nice way for readers to sample the novel before actually reading it

Anne of Green Gables is one of my favorite series of all time. I’ve reread the original book series too many times to count, and enjoyed it each time. I am also fond of the movies starring Megan Follows. With that said, I’d like to say this manga adaptation stays true to the dialogue and captures the charm of the series, while giving a fresh take on the appearance of the supporting characters (Matthew’s beard was a surprise).

The art style is catered to younger audiences (more of a kiddie shojo art style), but as an adult I still find it cute. Overall, I think this would be a wholesome read for children in elementary school. 4 stars.

I have read lots of these manga classics and loved them. Unlike many people I didn't read Anne of Green Gables as a child and this was my first experience with this book and I found it to be absolutely delightful and I may consider picking up the other books in the series especially if they are published in manga format.

The art made the story easier to follow along, but once again I find myself uninterested in the plot of the original classic that's been adapted here.
