This inspirational book is one of those that hit me just where I needed it most!
challenging, inspirational, and so much more.
I highly recommend it if you are needing an encouraging word when you're in a hard spot or time in life.

I enjoyed this book, that speaks to how God can work in our lives even when we feel somewhat stuck between our past and our future. Using the story of the Samaritan woman in the Bible, Armstrong shows us how we can have hope and confidence as we move out of our past and into our future.
I rated this one 3.5, but rounded up to a 4
As I first started diving into this read I was enjoying it and had high hopes for it. As someone who is currently living in a situation you might consider an “in-between place” I had high hopes. As much as I wanted to love it though, I felt myself growing increasingly uncomfortable with some of the statements and claims that were made. The chapters seemed unfocused to the topics at hand and seemed to all cycle back to complaining about men. There were Bible stories connected that I felt uneasy accepting her interpretations on and I didn’t agree with the connections made. I think she had good points she was trying to make, but I think she missed the point in her delivery. The author made statements that she promised she wasn’t a feminist, but it still came off that way. Don’t get me wrong, she also made some good points, but I think she also went too far. The book seemed to be more about conflicts between men and women than it did the in-between places. For me it wasn’t a favorite read, but I’d recommend checking out some other reviews before basing your decision to read or not.
A few new insights... but the "personal blurbs" that start most chapters don't resolve or tie-in with the topic at hand (making the book feel choppy). My biggest issue: there are multiple Scripture references/Bible stories told that are not accurate. To have a strong emphasis on this being a book from a Bible teacher, that is disappointing.
The Lord has really been speaking to me lately through the written word, and one of those books is The In-Between Place by Kat Armstrong. I have heard the story of the Samaritan woman in John 4 many times in my years as a Christian, but Kat gives a fresh perspective to a tale that is so easily overlooked, diving deeper into the text, and showing us that Jesus can change us no matter where we are, or where we've been.
From the first page you can feel Kat's passion for this message. She has went through her own excruciating in-between places, and shares her heart, her witnessing is so encouraging for those of us that are currently in in-between places. An in-between place can be any place that you feel stuck, where nothing makes sense, or when life and circumstances are so hard, and there is nothing you can do. In my mind I envision it to be when you feel like you're "stuck between a rock and a hard place." You are in-between.
For me, The In-Between Place was a light at the end of the tunnel, a beacon of hope and encouragement, and a great reminder that God has been with me through it all, and continues to give me strength as I go through the trails of life. It's time to make peace with your past, have undeniable hope in the present, and the strength and power to finish strong in the future.
This is a wonderful resource, and is actually meant to be studied as a group, thus making it perfect for Bible studies or classes, and is such a needed resource since we can all agree the pandemic is an in-between place all its own! Grab a copy of this book and get that encouragement we all need, have hope and faith, and be reminded that Jesus is always with us in our in-between places.
With the past year that we have ALL had, chances are many of us have felt as though our lives have in many ways been put on hold... and that we're just kind of in-between the before and whatever comes next. Covid aside, I think many of us also find ourselves feeling this way at one point in time or another. This book is for the women in those moments.
Kat Armstrong takes a deeper look at John 4 and the woman at the well. Combined with biblical truths and personal stories, this book offers encouragement to women in those middle stages of life. It is well though out and well-written. I appreciate the vulnerability the author offers in sharing her own stories while also giving us a better understanding of this well known Bible story and how it can be applied to our own lives.
**I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley for consideration. All thoughts are my own.
Trusted Bible teacher, Kat Armstrong, invites us into a journey with the Samaritan woman at the well. This un-named biblical woman may not have realized she was living in an in-between place, but hindsight would show she most certainly was. After an encounter with a stranger named Jesus, who knew every single thing about her, her life was changed forever. Kat graciously, and not without a bit of humor, guides us through the biblical account, along the way tying it to her life and ours and discussing common struggles we all go through.⠀
10 chapters are divided into 3 parts. Each chapter ends with discussion questions and a prompt to check out that chapter's additional materials in a free downloadable study guide. ⠀
This is a wonderful book to read and study on your own, with one or 2 friends, in a small group setting, or with a larger Bible study group. Kat is an empowering voice in the Christian faith and you will be encouraged by her love for God and her love for you.
Her book is just as I know her to be on social media; the author is a great encourager. Weaving her story in with shepherding words for her readers, Armstrong walks us through the story of the woman at the well in John 4. Readers can walk away with renewed hope in God, who is still at work among us.
The In-Between Place is the book version of the friend who meets you for coffee, and asks the hard questions — but does it in a way that feeds your soul and undeniably points you to Christ. Kat encourages the reader to really think about the in-between places of their lives, the ones that make life feel difficult, or disappointing, or hopeless, and to identify how God makes use of these places in the past, the present, and the future. Kat is a champion for women and a champion for Jesus, and in The In-Between Place,, she’s a champion for you, too! Deep theology and honest, relatable writing makes this more than just another “encouraging” book for your bookshelf, it’s one you could and should loan to a friend!
When you feel like you're in the hallway, unable to see which door you have next to walk through and the door you walked through to get to the hallway is long gone, you might feel confused, hurt, frustrated and alone. That's the in-between place. That place where purpose seems put on hold, where you feel like you're suspended in motion and nothing makes sense. This book takes you on the purpose behind the in-between place and I can't recommend it enough. I've been in a season of being in-between for a couple of years now. I'm sure seasons aren't really supposed to last that long, but for me, it has. It's been a long, desert journey and I'm ready to stop being in this place. But I'm grateful to have read this book because it's encouraged me to find purpose in the season I'm at. I hope it does for those who read it too. I suggest this book for anyone who is going through this season.
