This book is such a fun read. Everyone wants to go on the adventure of a lifetime, and these six friends get to do just that. I could not put this book down! I needed to know if the treasure would be found and I so was so caught up in the lives of these six people. Can they overcome their past to strengthen their friendship, or is this the end of the line for them? This book will keep you interested from the first page to the last and I highly recommend it.
I am sorry to say that I really wasn't that keen on this book. I liked the idea, but not many of the characters, and particularly didn't like Ivan. I do feel that it is not always necessary to like the characters and I did try, but just failed to connect with the book. I really hope it is just me and other readers will enjoy this adventure more than I did. .
When six long-term friends go treasure-hunting on the Appalachian Trail, it quickly becomes the adventure of a lifetime! There’s danger, bad guys, injuries, more bad guys, more danger, and then the real excitement begins. I could not put this book down! This will hook you on the first page and keep you hooked to the very last.I highly recommend it!
This book is so much fun! The characters are extremely relatable, and who doesn't love an adventure? It's easy to get lost in the pages of this book trying to solve the mystery yourself. This is the type of book that you can read anywhere at anytime!
Through Net Galley, I read an advance copy of #FortuneHunters by Wendy Byrne.
Six friends from college join together in search for lost treasure hidden along the Appalachian Trail. Dodging gangsters, domestic terrorists and bears, the group’s relationships are tested and the friends are forced to deal with a variety of unresolved issues, both current and dating back to college. The group is led by Ivan, who was expelled from MIT just prior to graduation, and Deanna, a high powered lawyer and Ivan’s former girlfriend.
The author uses first person narrative from the leads effectively to further the story and gain insight into both characters but I actually thought the two of the friends, Ava and Nora, were more fun and interesting.
At its core, Fortune Hunters is a romance that mixes in a elements of a Da Vinci Code mystery, a Big Chill reunion and, perhaps, a touch of Deliverance. While the romance at the center of the story is worthy of exploration, the mystery doesn’t really work, the interludes where the friends party/dance seem out of place and the action/violence doesn’t make sense.
Overall, Fortune Hunters is pleasantly entertaining and I’ll give it 3 stars. As noted, the leads are attractive and their backstory is fairly compelling.
An e-book copy of Fortune Hunters was the only compensation received in exchange for this review. My thanks to Net Galley and Two O’s Publishing for the opportunity to read this book and provide feedback.
