I enjoyed this book and learning more about Frankie and his family, however, it made the first part of this book move a bit slowly. Additionally, while inevitable, Verity's fighting with Ellis was a bit sad. I love this series and normally laugh through each book, but didn't do that this time. Yes, there were bits of humor, but not as much or as funny as the earlier books. Having said that, I really liked the ending and the way everything came together.
If you're a fan of the series, you will want to read this for all of the characters' histories that are revealed. If you're new to the series, you would enjoy more if you've read the prior books.
I'm giving this one 3.5 stars, but rounding up to 4 stars, mostly because, while an entertaining story, it was missing most of the humor the series is known for. I love this authors' work and she remains on my must read authors' list.
As a fan of this series, I found this story to be great. Verity is a fun character who always makes me laugh.
Helping ghosts is the one thing Verity truly enjoys, even though he boyfriend isn’t a fan.
In this story, truths are revealed and we learn what really caused her ghost, Frankie’s death.
While parts of this story were sad, the mystery was well done and I had to keep guessing until the end.
Three and a half
This is a tough one for me because as much as I enjoyed learning more about my favourite ghosts past and indeed his family I just didn't find this as gripping as previous books. I adore Verity with her ladylike southern manners and quirky pet Skunk but honestly found this book more than a little sad. I obviously won't say why but almost from the beginning to the grand revelations at the end it just made me feel so sorry for several characters. Plus Verity and her boyfriend Ellis are at loggerheads which has clearly been coming for a while but as a hopeless romantic who reads these books to get a warm fuzzy feeling I just felt a little let down.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
I loved this book. It was great learning all about Frank's family and how he got killed. This series keeps getting better and better. I was glad to see that Verity's relationship with Ellis is ok. #SouthernBredandDead #NetGalley
