"UNdaunted" was UNdoubtedly an UNbelievable and outstanding read.
Kara Goldin's story is "Exhibit A" for "Truth is Stranger Than Fiction". The fact that she started her company with no background in manufacturing/retail distribution/food science, while she was a mom with three children under the age of six AND was pregnant with her fourth child, is the first UNbelievable fact that she shares with readers.
I listened to the book's audio version that was read by Kara. I always love it when authors read their own memoirs and Kara's superb narration was no exception. Kara's spirit of enthusiasm was a real treat and provided an exciting new dimension to her story.
The book was very well organized; recounting the brand's story and the endless obstacles that Kara faced from the brand's inception to where it is today. Kara's determination to bring a product that she loved to market and her refusal to hear the word NO was very inspirational.
I am a working mom and I always found that I was the most successful/productive when I had excellent childcare at home. Kara made no mention of her family's nannies/daycare arrangements and this surprised me because her book was a complete "tell-all" of almost all aspects of her life. --- and, to me, having excellent childcare is a very important component of one's success -- whether they are a dad or a mom.
Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I highly recommend this book and wish Kara continued success with her company.
no longer interested in reading was back when net galley started getting audiobooks and I was in an audiobook phase. I'm sure it's an interesting read just no longer something that I want to dive into.
I picked this book to be one of my "mental health" reads of the month and I LOVED IT!
If you are looking for a book that will help you get out of a slump and kick your butt into gear, this is it. I feel like during this pandemic and working from home, it is very hard to think about your "dreams" when you cant even really venture out into other towns. This book highlighted a lot of success stories and really focused on you becoming a better person.
After some download problems the first time, I was able to download this book and I really enjoyed it! Please see my previous 5* review here and on Goodreads and Amazon. An appealing, frank and inspiring #Girlboss tale! Listening to Kara’s stories, advice, and origin story is like getting advice from an extremely smart girlfriend. This book also makes me even more inclined to support hintwater (which is delicious!) because Goldin is so great. I’d love to read another book on business by Kara Goldin!
So much fun to go along this memoir with her. I loved all the details along the way; it felt like following a bread path of Hansel and Grettle. I enjoyed that while this was a self help book it was not boastful and self important. It did not spend half the book telling me about its method for the sake of talking about the method alone. It just dolled out the life lessons and let me pick and choose what I wanted to apply to my own life. I identified and related to it, was engaged, entertained and felt I had learned something by the end. Thank you for the chance to read this.
Kara Goldin was on track in corporate America working with innovative companies and had quite a work history before Hint was even a thought. She was recovering from her fourth pregnancy and had an addiction to Diet Coke and thought maybe a change to her diet could be a good idea, so she started drinking water and plain water was just too plain, so adding a bit of fruit made a new water habit more than bearable but possibly enjoyable!
I listened to this book and I was so thankful that was the way that I consumed it. Kara reads the book herself and I appreciated that in her reading she emphasized the points that really mattered to her. I like hearing the author tell their own story and I was glad that Kara read it herself.
I loved reading a book about a woman who turns to innovation and solving the problems that she finds herself in. From flavored water to sunscreen, I was intrigued to learn more about Hint beyond their water and the behind the scenes of creating a product and then getting it into a customer's hands - inspired me to think about what I could do to be innovative in my own life!
I’ve struggled for weeks to write a review for this audiobook. For one, I really don’t like leaving negative reviews for any author - I try to find some positive aspect to focus on. Also, it feels unfair to leave a review for a book I was unable to finish.
However, I received the book in exchange for an honest review, so I must be honest. I could t even finish half of this book. As I previously mentioned, it was an audiobook version and the author narrated. I found her voice to be incredibly monotone and grating. Her advice was lovely, but nothing earth shattering and everything I’ve heard before.
Many reviewers have indicated it got better in the second half of the book, but the first half was painful for me. Another wealthy person gloating about their successes under the guise of giving advise. It just didn’t do it for me. I do, however, love Hint water!

I would like to apologize for not downloading the audio book file on time. I got busy for the past several weeks due to pandemic. Hope you stay safe.
Mostly Business Memoir, Not Much Universal Advice
Audiobook Review:
I chose this book at one of my favorite book review sites because I thought it would be a self-help book of sorts (more about business than personal), but it isn't. The author states in the introduction to this book that it is not a memoir, but honestly, it reads as mostly that. Perhaps not so much a personal memoir, although there is a certain amount as her business and personal life overlap, of course. But it certainly reads like a business memoir, if there is such a thing. In fact, I didn't think she really shared more than workplace and start-up owner until at least maybe the 16th or 17th chapter. Other than those later chapters, it felt like just a recounting of what she has been through professionally, first as an employee and then as a business owner. If you enjoy business memoirs, you might find her path, which is certainly not a straight road, an interesting one to read about. However, to me, like this book actually felt more like a giant business card about her beverage brand, Hint. In the introductory chapter, she spends a fair amount of time really talking her business up. I was wondering if the rest of the book was going to feel as much like an advertisement, and in parts, it did. I did finish the book, although sometimes I questioned why I kept reading because I personally don't find this kind of book interesting.
I did like it more in the later chapters when she not only talked about her experiences but actually made them more universal, offering ideas of how you could improve your business or other parts of your life based on what she just talked about. I wish she had done that earlier! The book would have been much stronger In a book like this, I want to see the author take her story and make it applicable to the reader. What were her takeaways from her experiences? How can these takeaways help the reader? She didn't really have any takeaways until some later chapters, as I’ve said, and these were given in an almost off-the-cuff manner. Honestly, all you need to do to get a sense of her advice (including the chapters where she didn’t spell it out in a few sentences) is to just look at the table of contents.
The author does narrate her own book, which I do prefer in nonfiction books. You can hear her strength and her passion for discussing her life and her business. Unless you like a business memoir where you mostly have to form your own takeaways and analyze to extract advice, I don't really feel like I can recommend this book. I do wish the author had included more actual advice that would be relevant to the target reader.

I didn't choose to listen to this audiobook because I love Hint water, but because the description sounded like exactly what I was looking for to keep pushing towards my goals. I was actually surprised to hear that this was the story of the beginning of Hint!
This book is filled with useful, innovative, and inspiring advice. I took so many notes to refer to later. The advice in this book can be used by anyone.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is working towards a goal!
I'm so grateful to Kara Goldin, HarperCollins Leadership, and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this ARC audiobook in exchange for my honest review.
Motivating, inspirational and absolutely unforgettable. Kara Goldin's (audio)book is the perfect resource for an aspiring female entrepreneur like myself, bur frankly, also for anyone looking for a healthy dose of "just do it" encouragement,
Prior to reaching for this buisness & career self-help book (and part memoir), I'd never heard of Kara Goldin. who is the Founder and CEO of Hint, Inc., who produce unsweetened flavored water called Hint. Her book is endorsed by such successful people as Sheryl Sandberg, John Legend, author Adam Grant and CEO of JPMorgan Chase Jamie Dimon - so as an aspiring businesswoman, I've also read a couple of other books published by HarperCollins Leadership lately and all were really good, so I had to get my hands on it.
Ladies and Gentlemen, this book is very good. Kara gives such innovative, useful and inspiring advice that while I was simultaneously reading and listening to her book (also narrated by the author), I was taking highlighting and taking lots of notes for future reference. She is not afraid of getting personal or discussing her many failures - something I truly value in an author putting herself out to the world. Each chapter is built on different anecdotes from Kara's process of building and running a business and is paired with advice for business and life. I highly recommend it.
*Thank you to the Publisher for a free advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Just another typical I am super famous and rich and I became famous and rich and you can too. Felt like she talks down to you the full book. Didn’t take away any good advice at all. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Undaunted Overcoming Doubts and Doubters is unique advice for entrepreneurs. Kara Goldin is the founder of a Hint fruit infused water. I wasn’t aware of her story and have never tried the water, but this audiobook sounded interesting to me. The book was so good. Goldin gave a lot of useful advice. The advice is from someone that created her business with her husband without being rich. Most self-help entrepreneur books give advice that would be useful if you have a financial backer already or are independently wealthy. Undaunted gave advice that anyone could use. Goldin gave a lot of interesting real world examples and really explained her story. Goldin did not hide her company’s failures but was very open about them and how they turned them around. I recommend Undaunted Overcoming Doubts and Doubters.
Thank you NetGalley and Harper Collins Leadership for Undaunted Overcoming Doubts and Doubters.
