All I Want For Christmas:
Thank you Netgalley, Quercus and Joanna Boloeri for gifting me a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!
Uhm... I LOVED this one. You all know high praise from me holds extra weight because I don't hand out 5🌟 to just anyone! This book felt different than any other romance I've read and the entire time I could just picture it as a Netflix Christmas movie. I NEED this to be a Netflix Christmas movie. Who do I need to talk to to make this happen?!
Nick’s life is a mess. After years working as a lawyer for a swanky company, he’s been laid off for a few dumb mistakes. No problem, there’s plenty of jobs, right? Wrong. When the nly job he can find still available is as a mall Santa, he honestly doesn’t think it can get any worse. And then his girlfriend breaks up with him. Like I said, Nick’s life is a mess. When a little boy comes running into the Sant grotto after close, begging for Nick to hear his Christmas wish, he never expects his entire life to change. THe boy’s request is simple. All he wants for Christmas, is for his mother to be happy. Nick makes it his mission to make this happen and decides to set up Sarah, Alfie’s mom, with his best friend, Matt. He never expected to fall for Sarah, himself.
This was such a good book. You know those books that you like so much you almost can’t think of anything to say because you just feel like it needs to be read to be understood? I feel like romances from a male POV are so rare and can really either be great or meh. I think that’s probably a personal opinion, but when I realized this was a male lead with no female POV, I was a little worried I wouldn’t like it. Color me wrong!! Nick was such a breath of fresh air. The friendship between him and Matt and him and Aflie and him and Sarah each felt so real and authentic. The choices and mistakes that were made throughout felt like choices and mistakes I think most would make. The internal dilemma he has throughout the book and the way he handles it, I thought was super respectable and made me like him even more. I was rooting for Sarah and Nick the entire time, but I cou;dn’t see a way through without heartbreak. I’m just going to say READ THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!
This book is a perfect Christmas novel. Easy to read, incredibly funny and with a happy ending.
This is the story of Nick, a high flying London based lawyer who loses his job and hits rock bottom. As a last resort, he agrees to work as a Santa in a shopping centre. Here he meets Alfie, a 4 year old whose only Christmas wish is to see his mum happy again. Unwittingly, Nick promises that his wish will come true. What can Nick do now? Stay our and crush the cute little boy's hopes, or get involved and play cupid.
Read and find out.
Loved this story.
I love a good Christmas book, especially when read at Christmastime and this one fits the bill exactly. The characters were likeable, the situations they got themselves into were quite believable and who doesn’t love a good romantic story?
All I want for Christmas was such an enjoyable read for me. I was nervous about how this situation was going to be handled, but it is so well done. This is a very charming story. Alfie is so lovable and the characters are likable. Alfie wants his mom, Sarah, to be happy so Nick, who took a job as a store Santa, decides that he wants to make his wish come true. He sets Alfie's mom up on a date with his friend, Matt. Matt and Sarah hit it off, but Nick has some feelings brewing. I was so surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. There's a lot of profanity which doesn't bother me, but if you don't like that sort of thing, I thought you should know up front.
Beautifully festive, witty and sweet. I always adore Joanna’s writing and this is no exception. Saint Nick is an absolute DREAM!
Really Loved this!!
It started a little shaky and I wasn't 100% sold but a few chapters in, it got good! It's also laugh out loud funny and really sweet. The relationships are genuine and Alphie is the sweetest. The ending felt a little rushed but all in all it was really lovely.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this eARC in exchange for a honest review.
SYNOPSIS
Nick's life is a mess. He just got fired, his girlfriend broke up with him and he has no money.
He lives with his best friend Matt and he supports him with everything but Nick knows that he needs a job. And he finds it, as Santa during the Christmas Holidays.
It's not the perfect job but everything changes when a little boy arrives at the Santa's grotto in the mall.
Alfie (the little boy) asks Santa (Nick) the most unselfish wish for a four-year-olds. He just wants to see her mom happy again.
Nick wants to make his wish come true. So he sets a date between Matt and Sarah. And everything as the relationship between them goes well, Nick starts having feelings for Sarah. And it's there when the real problems start for Nick.
OPINION
Well, Nick's story has a good development during the book. He is an unemployed lawyer who has to be Santa during the holidays. Eventually, he finds another job and finds the change he needs.
Buuuut, the love story is the thing I didn't enjoyed so much.
I thought this was going to be a love Christmas story between Nick and Sarah, BUT NO. This is between Matt and Sarah and the bad trio with Nick.
I didn't like either the end of the book. I think all was so rushed and with no sense.
I liked the book, I can't deny that. And the epilogue it's very lovely. But I think it wasn't what I expected to find in this book.
It has good characters. Nick is a good character. He had a very bad start but never lost the hope.
Also loved little Alfie, he is the cutest boy ever. I love all his scenes.
Matt's last name has to be "Best Friend" because that's what he is, the best mate Nick could wish.
And Sarah, well I have no much to say about her. I didn't liked many things about her so she is not my favorite.
To conclude, I do recommend the book. It wasn't the best but it's very interesting, romantic, funny and lovely with that Christmas feeling that we love.
All I Want for Christmas is a read as fun, charming, and warm as your favorite Hallmark movie (I mean, it basically *is* a Hallmark original plot line – big city lawyer finds love at Christmas? Sold.) This story was marketed for fans of The Flatshare and This Time Next Year, which are big shoes to fill but All I Want for Christmas lived up to its potential.
The love triangle storyline was a bit unusual for a Christmas read, but I loved the relationships and friendships between Nick, Matt and Sarah, and I believe the triangle aspect was well-handled and didn't detract from the book in any way.
The addition of Alfie was heartmelting and added an additional element to the story that can't be denied.
Cozy up with a mug of hot cocoa, a roaring fire, and this book and you'll find yourself in the perfect holiday mood!
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is such a cute book; I flew through it and couldn’t wait for the conclusion. It was just a wonderful, feel good Christmas read. It was interesting that the main voice was from a man's point of view. Ms Bolouri writes well from a male perspective. I liked all of the characters and there was a good, although not surprising, plot line. This is the first book I’ve read by the author. I plan to look for her earlier books ASAP.
I would like to thank the author, the publisher and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read an ARC of this book. It grabbed me from the beginning and was such a lovely story with great characters. I laughed and cried along with the characters I will be recommending this book to my friends.
When Nick loses his job at a law firm, the last place he thought he’d end up working is in a mall as Santa Claus. A 4-year-old boy visits him one day and all he wants for Christmas is for his mom to be happy again. Nick feels it’s his duty to fulfill this wish, and sets her up with his more dependable best friend. Soon into their relationship, Nick starts to wonder if he’s made a mistake.
Absolutely loved this one! I always read a few Christmas rom coms during the holidays and this one was so refreshing! It has a much more realistic and adult tone to it which some people might not want in a holiday read but I thought was so well done. It’s told from a male perspective, and that alone is unique for a holiday book. I loved how it really showed life lessons being learned from hardships, which is encouraging after a year like this. If you like the love triangle trope, convincing adult characters and fun holiday reads then this one is perfect for you!
While working as Santa in a shopping centre grotto, Nick meets four year old Alfie, whose only wish for Christmas is that his mum to be happy. Nick feels it’s his duty to help, but being penniless, he sets up best mate Matt with Alfie’s mum Sarah. But as things get serious between the couple, Nick realises that he’s fallen for Sarah and Alfie. Can he just be friends?
I really enjoyed All I Want for Christmas. It’s a gentle story, which nevertheless keeps the pages turning. Nick struggles with his feelings, while trying not to hurt any of his friends - Matt, Sarah or Alfie. The interaction between the group is believably written, and Alfie especially is a delightful character. The secondary group - scary elf Izzy, ex girlfriend Angie and university friends Harriet and Greta - all add to the readability of the book.
Very good read and Joanna Bolouri is an author to follow.
Absolutely loved this wee gem of a book. An easy read, festive book with a real feel good factor. The main character is very likeable and easy to warm to. I liked the short chapters which were engaging.
Would highly recommend this book. A great Christmas read with a cup of tea on a winter's day.
A sweet story about love & friendship set around the festive season. I like how the characters were realistic and there were some comical moments.
Thank you to NetGalley & publisher for the opportunity to read the book in exchange for a honest review.
Nick loses his job and can't find anything in in his own field - law and this causes him to lose his very demanding and superficial girlfriend. He just wants to find a job and he takes a job as Father Christmas in a grotto in a shopping centre. When 4 year old Alfie hops on his knee and tells him all he wants for Christmas is for his Mum, Sarah, to be happy Nick thinks of his best friend Matt and sets up a date.
Alfie and Sarah work their way into Nick's heart but Matt is really serious about Sarah and Nick will not let his true feelings show as Matt has looked after him over the years.
A heart warming Christmas story that is funny and touching.
A lovely heartwarming story about Nick, who is a sweetie, and whilst playing the role of Santa in a shopping centre at Christmas, sets up his best friend Matt with Sarah as a favour to her son Alfie, who just wants him Mum to be happy again.
Unfortunately, things don't quite work out as simple as that and it was lovely to get to know the characters and want them ALL to be happy, if that's possible. I was rooting for Nick all the way through, who is such a lovely man and Alfie who is such a cutie and makes things just that bit more complicated. A bit predictable, but that's fine.
Thanks to NetGalley for the kindle copy, my first Christmas book this year and a great one to start with.
What a lovely book - I so enjoyed this! A really great feel good, festive story that warms the heart!
Alfie is such a wonderful little chap and you so want Nick to sort his Christmas wish out for him. In turn, Nick seems to be a great guy who is down on his luck and trying to get his life back on track. The story did not proceed as I initially thought it would, but I think that made it better in the end. You hope everything is going to work out how you feel it should, but I was never quite sure how (or if) it was going to.
A thoroughly heart warming read which is perfect for Christmas. Read it - you won't be disappointed!
Thank you to Net Galley and the publishers for allowing me to read this in return for an honest review, which is what I have given.
I loved this book! Reading from a male perspective made a refreshing change. The characters were all likeable, and believable as was the pacing of the story. I love a Christmas romance and this did not disappoint!
Thank you to NetGalley and Quercus books!
This book was charming. I haven't read many Christmas stories from a male perspective. It could have been shallow and cream but Nick was sweet, just trying to do his best.
Nick has just been fired from his job and is working as a shopping-centre Santa when a cute little boy, Alfie, runs up to him and asks him if Santa can make his mum happy again. Feeling guilty, Nick decides to set up Alfie's mum Sarah with his best friend Matt... but of course things get a little complicated when he realises that he likes Sarah too. My personal preference is for rom-coms where the couple have a relationship throughout the book, and really get to know each other - so this premise was probably never going to be my favourite! I whizzed through it, it's very easy to read, and I liked the fact that Sarah was a single mum, how cute Alfie was, and the friendship between Nick and Matt, which was heartfelt but jokey. There was a fair amount that didn't really ring true, which you kind of expect from a rom-com - Angela and some things that might be spoilery - but the main thing for me was Sarah. Her motivations didn't really make sense, and felt a bit strange especially - as one Goodreads reviewer pointed - considering she has a child to look after. 3 🌟
