I can't believe I'm saying this but this was the first ever book by James Patterson in the whole 20 odd years I've been reading his books that I very nearly threw in the towel and gave up on!
It just did not feel like a JP book, nothing about it screams the usual style...
Now don't get me wrong once I got into it I really enjoyed it BUT it took me until a good 40/45% in before it grabbed me.
I actually think if I hadn't known it was a JP book I'd have enjoyed it more.. why? Because you learn to expect that special something with all of his books and for some reason this didnt quite have that spark.
Full to the brim with twists and turns, you'll think you've got a handle on it and you're spun in another direction
The storyline was brilliant, as expected, the character development was spot on, as expected... it was just the writing style I wasnt expecting.
I personally think just this once the pairing if James Patterson and J.D Barker wasn't the best match.
I 100% dont want to give a negative review as overall it's a really good read.... as long as you're not expecting the usual JP novel!
Huge thanks to netgalley and Random House UK for the ARC.
Another classic, 'someone has been murdered and I'm being framed for it,' mystery thriller. As usual, Patterson had me turning the pages constantly as the plot twist bounced between insane and absurd.
My thought process while I was reading:
WTF is happening? (That was just on repeat. In my head. The whole time.)
My thought process upon finishing:
WTF did I just read?
Is there a sequel? I have so many questions
This book came out on the 1st of October so of course there is no sequel...yet. Patterson, if you're reading this, I need a sequel. Please write one. Thank you.
Michael has had a troubled past, but is now on track - until he receives a call to say there is water pouring from his flat to the one below. Hurrying home, he finds a young woman dead in his bath. And a chain of events is set in motion.
The first third of the book was really gripping; it then becomes much more complex and the reader is bounced around, wondering if this is real, if this person is who they say, if this has really happened. The bodies pile up, as the FBI and Federal police try to track what has become a serial killing spree. How guilty is Michael? Will his foster-sister Megan be able to help him? And who is Mitchell?
The rollercoaster is written well and certainly kept my attention. You will need to concentrate though to work it all out! Several times I thought I knew what was going on, only for the plot to skew off in another direction.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House UK, Cornerstone and Century for allowing me access to the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Engrossing and intricate thriller ,with some very believable characters.Worked out,I thought, what was happening but an unexpected twist. Great read.
Detective Dobbs and FBI agent Gimble join forces to work on a murder case. Michael and Megan Fitzgerald are siblings involved in the case and are not what they seem. The story starts with a woman found murdered in Michael's apartment and he is the chief suspect and quickly arrested. There are lots of twists and the story kept me gripped right through the book. Its been a few years since i read a James Patterson book and this is up there with his best.
This book grabs you at the start and pulls you in! Michael returns home from work to find a woman dead in his bathtub. He calls his sister and he calls the police - why wouldn't he? He's never met this woman. But all is not as it seems when Police visit the apartment of the victim and find photos of her with Michael and hiss clothes at her place... everything says he knows her, well. But he maintains he doesn't.
As the case progresses we learn about michaels upbringing- a traumatic start which continued when he was adopted by two psychiatrists who used the trauma of michael and his sister to complete experiments on the children. Michael thinks he's over all this but could they have caused his personality to fracture? Could he have killed Alyssa Tepper? As we find out, the investigation gets bigger with more casualties left in the wake.
I loved the start of this book and then there were so many twists and turns it kept me guessing right till the end... the very end I felt was beyond belief to be honest but I enjoyed the twist all the same. This book is long. Really long. But the chapters are really short so its got a great pace and its difficult to put down.
Overall, a good read that has fast pace and plenty of twists in the tale!
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
James Patterson at his best.
It has you on the edge of your seat from the very first page.
It is a very complex plot which you think half way through you have solved Only to be blind sided by the twist at the end.
Absolutely brilliant
In "Coast to coast Murders" by James Patterson Trucker Michael Fitzgerald's life is turned upside down when the body of a young woman is found in his apartment. Despite his protestations that he's never met the woman it appears very much to the Police as if he not only knows her very well but they've having a relationship.. Investigation shows that there have been other murders across America that coincide with the routes Michael has been taking in his job. Further suspicion is cast . as Michael's first thought on finding the body is to try to contact his sister Megan.
Megan and Michael are very close having been adopted together and sharing an extremely unusual childhood.
As the evidence mounts against Michael he escapes custody, goes on the run and the race is on to prevent more murders when a pattern emerges.
This is 100 mph stuff with constant action and never a dull moment, it's like a Simon Kernick story on Acid. Megan and Michael's past is revealed and it appears that there is a link between that and and the situation Michael finds himself in.
There are several twists, people are not who they seem and all is not how it appears and there's a particularly clever ending. The tale does stretch the limits of credibility more than a bit but at the end of the day it's excellent escapist entertainment.
A very good read and yet another hit for James Patterson.
Loved this novel, so many twists and turns. Can you make a person have split personalities, to be the point that they can't remember what they've done? How far would a psychopath go to protect themselves and the persone they care about? Michael and Meg are both adopted by doctors, but what do they want them for, Dr Bart and Dr Rose use them and others for research. When murders start happening across the country, all the evidence points to Michael, he has blackouts and can't remember periods of time do isn't really sure if he had done anything or not.
I would love a follow up to this book to the up loose ends like who did die and who.is alive did they catch the killer in the end of not? What happened with Dobbs and Gimble?
Many thanks for giving me the opportunity to read this book will definitely be recommending to family and friends.
Let The Chase Begin 🏎
Coast to Coast is told from a few perspectives, twists and turns to the end. A bit of a slow starter, but plenty happening. Based around Michael and Megan, adopted children of Dr Barton and Dr Fitzgerald, taking you from the present to past events.
Difficult to note too much without giving away any spoilers. Overall good read.
#TheCoasttoCoastMurders #NetGalley James Patterson never disappoints and this book was no exception. From the first page I was drawn in by the fast paced plot and I hung on every word! Plenty of action which I love in a thriller - I don't want to get bogged down with lots of descriptions - and just when I thought I could stop holding my breath as the truth had come out there was not one but two twists at the end!! Brilliant!
Whenever I see the name James Patterson on a book it’s a must for me. This book doesn’t disappoint. An easy ready with a brilliant story. It will certainly keep you turning the pages. Bravo Mr Patterson,
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the arc in return for an honest review
Michael and Megan were adopted by husband and wife psychologist/psychiatrist team as an experiment. Horrific treatment means they rely on each other and trust few others. When Michael finds a dead body in his bath one night the first person he calls is Megan. He calls the police and soon they believe he is responsible for a series of murders from coast to coast as they are all similar and he is a long haul driver. The FBI are soon called in to help and from there on things escalate. Who can be trusted, who is real? The story picks up pace as it goes along and makes you want to carry on reading to see what happens next. Very enjoyable as are any of James Pattersons' books once you've sorted out the characters involved, the only downside is the ending which is a bit confusing, maybe we have to draw our own conclusions, worth the read though. well
James Patterson is a master writer of the thriller genre and this one is no exception We go on a massive ride with the four main characters adopted siblings Michael and Megan Fitzgerald and Los Angeles, Detective Garrett Dobbs and FBI Agent Jessica Gimble who are trying to find a serial killer. An arrest was made but the murders continue and Michael Fitzgerald is their main suspect as a truck driver he has the means and there is the fact that a murdered woman was found in his bath tub . But is it all that it seems or is their more going on than anyone realises It will all come to stunning conclusion on the final chapter as it usually does with James work
The Coast-To-Coast Murders is co authored by James Patterson and J.D. Barker. It is narrated in first person and is shown through the eyes of multiple characters. This is the first book that I have read by Patterson or Barker and I must say that I was not disappointed because it completely blew my mind to smithereens. Filled with a great storyline, strong characters and the craziest twists. Every time I thought that I had it figured out another twist was thrown my way. I definitely did not predict that ending.
This is a must read…
I recieved an advanced copy for free, and this is my honest opinion.
I'm a fan of James Patterson's books and have been for a long time, so was excited to read this new one. I have to admit though that I didn't find it as good as I usually do - this was a bit confusing at times. I found the statements made by Megan confused me at some points. However, it was still a great story just not as good as other James Patterson books.
James Patterson never fails
Edge of your seat writing
And a twist at the end you won't see coming
This is a must read
Thank you netgalley, James Patterson and Random House for allowing me to read and review this book.
I absolutely loved The Coast To Coast Murders by James Patterson and J.D Barker.
There were so many twists in this book that my head is still spinning after finishing it. Everytime I thought I had figured out where the story was going there was another twist that sent me completely down a different path. In the end I could not put it down and went onto read half of it in one sitting as I was desperate to know what was going to happen next. Even on the last page the book did not disappoint with a twist to the ending I did not see coming!
Thank You to NetGalley for my ARC
I am normally a big James Patterson fan. I thought though that the plot got lost. There was so much happening that in places I found it difficult to know what was part of the main storyline.
Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.
This is a long book with almost 500 pages that include 150 chapters, although that may seem excessive they are mainly when a different character takes over the narrative. I was totally hooked from the first page with its intricate and fast paced plot. Many twists and seemingly unexplainable situations keep you guessing..... and just when you think you have it figured out..... you haven’t! Couldn’t stop reading, what a journey this novel takes you on, brilliant!
