I adored this book!! Kristy Woodson Harvey is one of my favorite authors of 2020. This might be my new favorite book of hers! It’s a beautiful story of how life doesn’t ever seem to go as planned. What might seem devastating and soul shattering can turn into a new happiness in time. This is just a truly beautiful life story!
Ohhhhhh my goodness!!! I have read and LOVED all of Kristy Woodson Harvey’s novels, but her latest book Under the Southern Sky could quite possibly be my favorite from her yet!!! I knew from reading the description that the premise was exactly what I had been in the mood to read! I wanted a character driven novel that had depth, but not too heavy and this 5++++ star read definitely delivered! I racked my brain thinking if there was anything that I would change in this book and the answer is absolutely not! The storyline was perfectly paced and I was really, really surprised with some of the twists and turns—SO DARN GOOD! In this crazy world we live in now more than ever I am appreciating fantastic novels and this is a true MUST READ!! If you haven’t read Kristy Woodson Harvey yet, Under the Southern Sky is the perfect book to jump in with— I highly recommend ALL of her novels!!
This is my favorite book from Kristy Woodson Harvey!
This book follows Amelia and Parker. Amelia is a journalist working on a story about IVF embryos and discovers they belong to her childhood friend, Parker. Parker and his wife that's passed are on a list for abandoned embryos and Amelia has to tell him. That discussion turns the page for their relationship.
Flashbacks are shown from Parker's wife through diary entries that just broke my heart.
This story is emotional and since I have gone through IVF and am unable to conceive this book just hit home for me. Sadly, I was able to relate to a lot of the emotions and feelings in the book.
I enjoy southern fiction and Harvey is one of my favorite authors to read in the genre.
Thanks to Netgalley for my advanced ebook copy.
I received an ARC of this novel from Netgalley in exchange for my review. Whenever I see Kristy Woodson Harvey has a new book out, it is one I will immediately purchase. I don't even need to read what it is about-I know it will be good. With Under the Southern Sky her streak continues!
This book has all the things that make it a great "southern" read: beautiful location, nosy, interfering moms and neighbors, and the sweet boy next door. In this book we have Amelia Buxton who has written her biggest magazine article to date about her amazing marriage. However, the day it publishes she finds out her marriage wasn't all it seems to be. To help her cope, Amelia plunges into a new story about IVF embryos that have been abandoned. When she gets a sneak peak at the names on the list, she is shocked to see the name of her good friend and neighbor growing up, Parker. Parker has recently lost his wife and in his grief has forgotten about the embryos. The decision of what to do is the journey of this book. Kristy writes so beautifully and her characters draw you in and stay with you long after the book. This is a must read!
Kristy Woodson Harvey has outdone herself. Under the Southern Sky is her best book yet. The interlocking story of Amelia,Parker and Greer spans years of relationships, hard decisions and love. I so enjoyed the seaside setting, the relationships and the stories behind them. Learning about how people and their embryos exist gave me a heartfelt understanding of the love that goes into decisions and desires to have children. Thank you Netgalley for the ARC copy - It’s a perfect story, a real story that will grab you immediately. Put it on your TBR shelf immediately.
Kristy Woodson Harvey never disappoints her readers and this is another fantastic book from her. I've been a loyal fan since her first book and she is the #1 southern fiction author that I recommend to my friends. She always tells a fantastic story from a southern perspective with lots of salty ocean air in the background.
Amelia and Parker were best friends growing up in Cape Carolina. Years later, Amelia's marriage has just broken up and she is in jeopardy of losing the job she loves as a reporter. Parker lost the love of his life to cancer and has been unable to move forward with his life for three years. When Amelia is researching an article about frozen embryos, she discovers that there are embryos for Parker and his wife that are considered to be abandoned and will soon be destroyed. Parker had forgotten about the embryos in his grief and decides that he wants to find a surrogate so that he can have a baby to remind him of his late wife. Telling Parker about the embryos brings Parker and Amelia back into contact with each other at a time in their lives that they are both grieving and trying to move forward. Can they help comfort each other as they attempt to move forward in their lives?
I loved the characters in this novel - they were both well written and very real - people that we know in our normal lives - even as they were faced with a huge moral question involving frozen embryos. This is a beautiful written story about love and loss, family and friendship. And the reminder that family is more than sharing blood - it is also made up the people you love and care about.
This is Southern Fiction at its best written by one of the best authors currently writing. You absolutely don't want to miss Under the Southern Sky!
This would have been a 5 star rating if it hadn’t dragged on just a bit a times.
Overall, a well developed story with engaging characters.
A story that will pull at your heartstrings as Amelia and Parker figure out what direction their friendship is going to take them. Will their lifetime friendship bring them happiness in the the romance aspect?
The story is full of southern charm, second chances, love, friendship, family and intriguing secrets.
Thank you to NetGalley, Gallery Books and author, Kristy Woodson Harvey, for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Some stories are so beautiful, it doesn't feel like a review could do it the justice it deserves. This book is one of those, If I could give this book ten stars I would! Amelia and Parker grew up next-door to each other in the charming southern town of Cape Carolina. When a story she is researching brings Amelia to Parker's doorstep, and their lives will never be the same. Told through multiple character POV's, Kristy Woodson Harvey weaves this seamless tale of life, loss, family and love. I highly recommend this book to anyone who reads women's fiction.

WoW! Who doesn't love a good love story?
This book had me loving every second of Amelia and Parker!
The story is told from multiple people but mainly Amelia and Parker.
I promise you'll love it.
Under The Southern Sky was so beautiful. The writing was just amazing.
And the story that is being told!!!!! The greatest story I've ever heard before.
If this doesn't get you all in your feelings I don't know what will.
Kristy Harvey girl you out did yourself. My first novel by her.... And I'm already looking into her books.
Thank You NetGalley, Publisher and Kristy for this amazing, loveable ebook!
One of the most emotional books I’ve read. Topics of infertility, losing a spouse, cancer all handled with such grace. This 400 page novel had me laughing, hoping, crying all at once. Absolutely loved it
Thank you NetGalley for my arc. I have always enjoyed Kristy Woodson Harvey books and this one didn’t disappoint. It was a good mix of love, friendship and family secrets. I love how everything was neatly tied up with a happy ending! A cozy, feel good read for fall/winter. Southern lit at its best.
I really enjoyed this one- thank you NetGalley for my ARC copy! I read the book in two days and loved getting lost in the story. Amelia and Parker's stories are interesting and they both have a lot of heart. Greer's journal entries were a great addition- not too much of her, not too little! No spoilers, but the ending was nicely done; lots of loose ends tied up well. I've read most, if not all, of Harvey's books and sometimes she overkills it on the word "southern." Southern mama, southern sky, southern drawl, southern this, southern that. If we had to drink every time the word "southern" was in the book... we'd be toast. I recommend the book and 5 stars!
Oh my....Kristy Woodson Harvey brilliantly tackles love, life, and loss in this stellar addition to her list of work.
“Under The Southern Sky” follows Amelia Paxton a journalist who is working on a story about IVF embryos and discovers that embryos belonging to her childhood friend Parker and his deceased wife are on the list as “abandoned”, has the hard task of telling him, and the novels follow Parker’s decision, and how it affects his relationship with Amelia. Throughout the book we learn more through not only Amelia and Parker’s POV but beautifully written tragic flashbacks from his wife Greer’s diary entries, and select chapters told from Amelia’s mother Elizabeth.
The novel comes together in the end absolutely flawlessly. It is such an emotional story and will resonate deeply with those impacted in there lives by cancer and pregnancy related issues.
Kristy Woodson Harvey’s writing simply brings joy to my life, she has this remarkable way of creating characters that you love and root for, they are textured and layered. I just found myself wanting to reach out and hug Greer so deeply. I think those diary entries are the best writing Kristy has ever put forth. The novel is a tour de force for her, and she has done such a wonderful job tackling these serious topics while turning out a charming southern romance novel.

I was introduced to this author through Friends in Fiction. I am able to watch a show each week that includes the Fabulous Five authors that so many of us read that love southern fiction. Since I had read all of the books that Kristy Woodsen Harvey has written I was so excited to read this one. Thanks to NetGalley and Gallery Books for the ARC of this book. It is by far my most favorite one so far. I felt the depth of the characters, and the storyline was relatable and did not disappoint. I will recommend this to our patrons.
5 star
Having been completely and totally invested in Kristy Woodson Harvey's Peachtree Bluff series, I have been making my way through her back list and I was tickled pink when I got sent a free copy of her forthcoming novel, UNDER THE SOUTHERN SKY (out April 20th, 2021), in exchange for an honest review. In my opinion, this book is her best yet. I love her Southern fiction story telling that presents Southern women as the multi-dimensional women we are. This novel has the heartwarming effect as a Hallmark movie, but has added layers woven in of emotional strife and realistic battles that help develop the story further. At this point, I will read anything Kristy Woodson Harvey writes. 5/5 stars.
Amelia Buxton has a happy marriage and a journalist job that she loves.. She is shocked to discover her marriage is a sham and she maybe losing her job. She is working on a story about abandoned embryos at a fertility clinic and discovers that her childhood friend Parker and his late wife Greer have four embryos there. She feels that it is her duty to tell Parker about this so he can decide what to do about them. He decides that he will get a surrogate so that he can have Greer always in a child. Both Parker and Amelia are dealing with griefs and reach out to each other. Can they find comfort and move forward with their lives? Great read! Such a great writer,
Thanks Kristy Woodson Harvey and Gallery Books
Under the Southern Sky is southern fiction at it's best. A fascinating tale of friendship, love, family, secrets, and Southern charm. Amelia and Parker have been friends forever. Their families are neighbors. The chapters alternate between the characters in the book, each telling their view point. I enjoyed this book. Thank you NetGalley and the publisher Gallery Books for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Southern fiction is my favorite genre to read and this is as Southern as it gets. Amelia's marriage is breaking up in an unexpected way and she is thrown for a loop. She reconnects with the boy next door from her hometown of Cape Carolina, Parker, who has gone through the loss of his beloved wife from cancer. Their mothers, who are best friends, have been trying to get them together for years.
I loved all the characters and was rooting for them to have a happy ending.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book to review.
