This is the first novel that I have read by this author. It will be embraced by those who enjoy the stories that have been penned by authors like Dorothea Benton Frank or Nancy Thayer. Under the Southern Sky is women’s fiction. It has a good story line, engaging characters and some things to think about. I recommend this one.

This is the story of Amelia and Parker who were friends in childhood. For very different reasons (no spoilers) neither is in a relationship. When Amelia finds out something that she feels compelled to tell Parker, she knows that this truth may complicate both of their lives.

How Parker and Amelia each deal with their respective former relationships and how they may move forward forms the basis of much of this novel. Readers will be interested in seeing what happens to them, both separately and together.

Under the Southern Sky is an involving novel and one that is also enjoyable.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Another great book by an author I am beginning to love! Her contemporary romance stories are the perfect mix of tackling some heavier subjects while still being a lighter, heartwarming read that you can immerse yourself in. Under the Southern Sky is a story about two high school friends reconnecting after an immense loss. I liked this one even more than Feels Like Falling. I cannot wait to go back and read the Peachtree Bluff series next!

Thank you to the publisher for an advanced copy to review. This was one of my most anticipated reads of the year and it did not disappoint.

Kristy Woodson Harvey is one of my favorites when I need an easy read. She always writes the perfect summer southern reads. This one was fantastic. It was a tender, sweet story.

I have heard so many great things about this author. This book did not disappoint. I thought the topic of abandoned embryos was really interesting and something I didn’t know much about. I liked that this story took some twists and turns that I didn’t necessarily expect! I also liked the multiple POV the author used to tell the story and allowed pieces of the puzzle to fall into place.

Kristy Harvey is one of my go-to’s for the loveliest and most wonderfully-written Southern fiction, and Under the Southern Sky was everything I hoped for it to be and more! This book is that precise and perfect mix of emotional and serious, heartfelt and sweet, all while brimming with that delightful Southern charm. This author has a beautiful way of pulling you in to every single aspect of the story, from the characters to the setting, and if I had to use one word to describe the reading experience, it would be vibrant.

One of the most memorable elements to this story for me was the flawed and very real characters we meet on the pages. I appreciate coming to really know and understand the heart and motives of the characters in a novel, and that’s precisely what we get here. I love love loved getting to see through each of the main characters lenses with the seamless POV’s of Amelia, Greer, and Parker. They came to feel like friends by the end. This story, one of loss, grief, family, friendship, love, and life’s challenges and joys, is meaningful, impactful and one that I surely won’t soon forget. My how it tugged at my heartstrings and really made me pause to contemplate life and its intricacies as I read along.

[Content warning: infertility and death of a loved one. While handled in such a delicate and sensitive way, just know that these themes are underlying throughout the story.]

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Gallery Books for the gifted e-copy!

Another wonderful story about love, loss, sacrifice, devotion and loyalty from Ms. Harvey. It’s not that you don’t know that Parker and Amelia belong together and will end up together, it is the path that gets them there. Both Parker and Amelia have baggage that is pretty heavy and it will take them sometime to get over.

Family is a centerpiece to all of her books and this one is no different.

I very badly want to visit Cape Carolina and sit on a dock for a couple of hours feel the breeze in my hair. Doesn’t that sound divine?

I loved this book. It is the story of three people and what happens in their life when one of them dies and leaves behind 4 embryos. I received a copy of this book from Net Galley to review but also, bought a hard copy of this book. I ended up reading the hard copy of the book. This is a book I will put on a shelf and read again.

I enjoyed this book. I ended up buying the audio book and listening to it. The characters were people I enjoyed reading and the multiple narrators did really well with the multiple pov format. The story has some unexpected twists that kept me interested.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. So good! Such an excellent story, I wished it would never end.

I was thoroughly engaged in this story of three people whose lives were intertwined in such a unique way, and I loved Parker and Greer and Amelia. The way the book was presented from the three different points of view was a good technique. That is one of the things I like about reading Kristy’s stories, and it’s a technique she uses well. I remember how delighted I was when I first read Dear Carolina, where character voices were so distinct, offering a different perspective on what was going on in the story.

The friendships between the three characters in Under the Southern Sky is really sweet, and I want them all for my friends. It’s great how the past connections intersect with the present story and influence the relationships. It’s also great that each of the three main characters has equal stage time, so the reader can become fully invested in them and want to continue reading. There are bits of wisdom dropped along the way, another trademark of the author, and I had to smile when I read, “In a lot of ways, life never moves beyond 7th grade.” That’s something that Amelia thinks when she’s in a movie theater on a date with the first man she’s dated since Thad and walking away from Parker, and she’s right. While we think we are all grown up and past those silly games we played in middle school, and the awkwardness of those years, we aren’t always totally removed from that time. The awkwardness will sneak up on us at the most inconvenient times

For most of the read, I was totally absorbed in what was going on in the story, enjoying how different situations popped up to complicate the relationships and the directions those relationships took. However, some of the later plot twists didn’t work as well as others for me, especially a secret that Amelia’s mother had that once revealed, didn’t seem so devastating as the lead-up indicated it might be. That secret did help Amelia make a decision for a direction to take in her own life, so for that reason, it was necessary, but I’d already suspected what the secret was, so maybe that’s why it lost some of the impact it could have had. I also thought that Parker’s waffling over whether he could ever get past his grief over losing Greer wasn’t always working well. I understand the grief, and it was so clear that she was the woman he thought he was going to love forever. That relationship was so well presented, and for the most part I accepted that he would really struggle over whether he would ever have another love like that, but that went on a little bit too long for me.

Still, that doesn’t take away from the rest of the story that is wonderfully written with surprises that delight, characters to love, and a wonderful setting that makes one want to go visit Cape Carolina to sit on the dock and dip toes in the water.

‘Under The Southern Sky’ is my second book by author Kristen Woodson Harvey. Since I enjoyed her first book so much I had high expectations for this book also. Unfortunately, that wasn’t to be the case. I enjoyed the concept of this book and the characters, however the ‘on again- off again’ between Amelia and Parker throughout the story was like reading a Young Adult novel about two 15 year olds, and not a novel about two mid thirty year olds. The book could have been about 50 pages shorter if the author didn’t spend so much time elaborating on how the main characters kept changing their minds about telling each other how they felt about each other. I found the story line light and ‘summer worthy’, but I also found myself wishing to get to the end of this star-crossed story. I haven’t given up on KWH and look forward to reading her next book.

Under the Southern Sky is a touching story about childhood friends Amelia and Parker, three generations of family, love, and marriage. Through a series of heartbreaking twists and turns in their adult life, the two friends manage to rekindle their friendship when they need it most.
Journalist Amelia Saxton is trying to navigate her life back on track after uncovering a shocking secret her husband had been keeping from her. To escape the stress and heartbreak, Amelia throws herself into her work only to find journalistic gold. She uncovers a cluster of unclaimed frozen embryos at a fertility clinic that belong to her childhood friend Parker and his beloved and now deceased wife Greer.
Parker Thaysden is in charge of Mergers and Acquisitions for the prestigious McCann Media, which is owned by his wife Greer’s family. He is overcome by grief after the loss of his beloved wife and can’t seem to move forward in life. That is until Amelia approaches him with a life changing plan.
The characters in this book are endearing. In addition to the main characters you have meddling southern mommas, a fun and quirky aunt, and others that I felt I knew in real life. The author did a wonderful job of character development.
For me, there is nothing better than reading a book when the author’s skillful writing makes you laugh, cry, and warms your heart. Ms. Woodson Harvey covered all those emotions in this book. Under the Southern Sky was a quick read that I could not put down. It is a very enjoyable story that I will recommend to friends.
I am grateful to NetGalley, Simon and Schuster, and Kristy Woodson Harvey for the advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is the story of 2 childhood friends that discover love and family can be found in different ways. It’s the story of Amelia and Parker. The characters were well developed and I found myself not wanting the book to end. I will most definitely be reading other books by this author

Loss plays a major role in a man grieving and a friend with a thankless task of reviving a terrible time in his life. Parker and his deceased wife have embryos that must find a surrogate. Faced with the possibility and responsibilities this involves moves this story. A slow burning attraction forces Parker and Amelia to confront the past and resolve the future.

This book was outstanding. Kristy Woodson Harvey never disappoints! The plot discussed some weighty issues with “discarded” embryos, and the subject was handled beautifully. The characters seem like people I’d want to be friends with, and I loved the coastal Carolina setting,
This is a book to settle down and read in one sitting. 5 stars.

If you need a book for the summer, this is one you will want to be reading by a body of water while you lounge (or listen to while you do laundry and dream of lounging by a body of water). But make sure you have your tissues at the ready.

This book is full of heart, and a narrator for every perspective only adds to the excellent experience. This is a story about friendship, grief, love, second chances, family, and the place we call home. The settings are themselves characters joining a cast of believable, multifaceted, voices that compose the point of views. I was so wrapped up in all the facets of this story and didn't want to stop listening.
