Thanks go to the publisher and Net-Galley for the complimentary copy of His Accidental Amish Family by Rachel J. Good. I agreed to read and review this emotionally charged novel prior to publication. My opinions are my own, and no one has influenced them.
His Accidental Amish Family is a lovely Amish fiction novel with endearing characters and a heartfelt plot. Ms. Good brings her amazing understanding of Amish life to this highly enjoyable tale. She has clearly done her research regarding foster care too. The pacing of this book pulled me in from the start and kept my attention until the end.
Anna Flaud is our heroine, and I fell in love with her from the start. I could feel her pain and guilt over the accident that left her unable to walk. Her willingness to open her home to foster children is amazing since she spends her time in a wheelchair. Her determination to walk is admirable, and her struggle touched me. When she starts to have feelings for the hero, she is cautious after what happened with her ex-fiancée.
Levi King is the Amish hero, and he’s the individual who helps Anna learn to walk again. How he deals with Anna’s impatience during the process is amazing, but he senses guilt behind what drives her, and he understands that since he has guilt over his brother’s disabilities. He shows more emotion than is typical in an Amish man, and it made it much easier to become vested in his character.
The romance doesn’t start at the beginning of the novel since Anna is pushing herself to walk for Gabe, the man who was driving the buggy when the accident happened, but she is fascinated by Levi even before she finds Gabe has fallen in love with another. Through a misunderstanding, Levi believes she’s married and has a baby. Once that is cleared up, the romance grows in a lovely way, and I wanted them to find their happy ending.
If you enjoy Amish romances with character you will love and a plot so poignant it will touch your heart, then you will love His Accidental Amish Family as much as I did. The storyline involving foster children is heart wrenching and made me cry on more than one occasion. I highly recommend this novel if you are looking for a book with more substance. Happy reading!
An entertaining and well written inspirational romance. Good plot and character development. I highly recommend. I received an advance ebook from the publisher and Netgalley and this is my unbiased review.
What a blessing this book was! I loved Anna, she was my favorite character. God used life altering challenges and pain to make her into the woman she became. This book is a love story - between family, friends, and foster children. An incredible read!!
I loved this story of an Amish single woman who no longer could walk after a buggy accident. Because of the struggles of not walking and knowing she could not bear children, Anna helps at a community center and works hard to meet her personal goal to walk again. She meets Levi and he is a loving and wonderful man yet the little misunderstandings and unexpected twists in the story causes them to not feel free to share one another's feelings.
It's a wonderful and touching story that will bring joy to your life. And a few tears along the way through life's struggles. It is realistic and easy to relate to, especially for me as a caretaker of those with various special needs.
This is a book I am glad that I have read. Really, really good!
I received an ebook copy of this book from the author and through NetGalley. All thoughts are my own.
Rachel Good has once again given us a novel that provokes thought and questions our ability to see what is not so obvious. Our lady, of this book, Anna suffered a life altering accident as a young woman that many thought she would never recover from....everyone except Anna. Anna fought with all that is in her, to be able to walk and would not take no for an answer. The man who would help her try to achieve her hope to walk is Levi. Levi has his own issues that he is trying to cope with....actually, he is blaming himself for the tragedy of another....a no win situation. My only regret was the political aspect that was in the book. I read Amish fiction to get away from the world we are in and escape to a place without the politics, so I was a bit disappointed with that turn to the story.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Zondervan through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Thank you to Kensington Books and Rachel J. Good for allowing me to read an ARC copy of HIS ACCIDENTAL AMISH FAMILY, the 3rd book in the unexpected blessings series trough Netgalley. The book release date is December 1.
In her usual style, Rachel approaches a modern day issue of the “Dreamers” , and handicapped individuals, with unusual skill and dignity.
Anna was in a buggy accidental as a teenager that left her bound to a wheelchair. Anna puts away her desire to be a mother and wife and begins working with Levi king at the community care Center to become mobile. Anna is given the opportunity to adopt three children but in order to do this she really needs to find a husband.
Can Anna and Levi work together to find a solution to this dilemma?
Read this five star book and form your own opinions just as I did. I was not required to give a positive review.
Unexpected Amish Blessings #3
Anna is a young Amish woman who is in a wheelchair because of an accident and is trying to learn to walk. With an offer to move into the dawdi haus next to her aunt and uncle, Anna has much to think about.
Levi King works at the Community Care Center where he helps people strengthen their bodies to become more independent and in turn they have an increased sense of self-worth. Levi's aunt watches over his brothers and takes care of the household.
As Anna undergoes therapy with Levi, big things are about to happen for both families.
I just reviewed His Accidental Amish Family by Rachel J. Good. From NetGalley, the review is mine.
Anna's story about wanting to walk again after a horrible accident is encouraging. Not much is disclosed about the accident or her disability afterwards. Levi, after the near drowning incident of his younger brother has made a life of helping others with their disabilities. I liked Anna's determination and Levi's sensitivity. The foster care program is an important factor in this story but I felt some parts were not believable. Also three quarters into the story, the storyline takes a dramatic turn which I felt would have been perhaps a subject for another book.
I enjoyed this book. If you like Amish romance this is a book you should read. A good mix of romance and drama.
I was really enjoying three quarters of this book, until it became political.
We are given a young Amish woman with a devastating spinal injury, and then a young man who blames himself for an accident.
These two seem to have a lot in common, and when they meet everything should be perfect, but assumptions are made, and the journey becomes rough.
I did love that even with a disability the main character was ready and willing to give to others and live her faith.
Also the young man deals with his guilt by teaching others how to prevent and help injuries.
The main story was good and kept my attention, but I wish I had known we were including DACA.
I received this book through Net Galley and Kensington Publishing, and was not required to give a positive review.
This book was so good! It's a well written heartwarming story with just enough twists to keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. If you like Amish fiction you will love this book. Thank you Kensington Books--Zebra via NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
I was given this book by NetGalley in order to review it. I love Amish books and this one is no different. When you read this book you are again reminded that GOD is always with us and that he is in control even though as humans too many time we think we are. We let our emotions run away with our life and don't ask God if this is the right move, the right relationship or the rights fork in the road.
The saying Pride Goes Before a Fall is so true in this story. as we see that Anna has made a commitment and is fighting with all her might to keep that agreement. While it takes years she neglects to see if what she is doing really is Gods plan. She lives with her extended family in the house on the property and wants nothing more than to get married and have a family. Fate steps in and has her help her aunt by taking care of a crack addicted baby and Anna realizes that she could have children even if they are not hers.
In the meantime she works with a therapist named Levi who become entwined in her life and family. He does not know why she is pushing so hard to walk but during there sessions he starts to have feelings for her.
Rachel Good takes us along on a wonderful ride as we join these two people and all their family and friends during the episode that makes up this story.
I love this story, it has a happy ending and is full of life lessons for all of us to live by. A must read.
A sweet story of love and forgiveness. You will keep guessing how this one will end and it doesn’t end as you would suspect. Definitely a great one if you like Amish fiction!
I did enjoy this book , it was a slow burner i found it hard going at points and there is quite a few twists and turns. Keep with it.
I love reading stories about the Amish and their way of living.
This story is about a young woman, Anna, working her way back from an accident she was in. She was told she would never walk again.
Anna moved back with her Aunt and Uncle and cousins. She moved into the Dawdi Haus so she'd have her own space.
She started going to a community center to learn to walk. She was determined for certain reasons, I won't speak of because it would be a spoiler. When that wasn't a reason anymore she decided to help her Aunt with the foster children she took in. I won't go into too much detail about this so it also doesn't become a spoiler!
Now she had other new reasons to walk! She is determined and her determination impresses Levi, the person helping her learn to walk. They become good friends.
This book is an inspiration to people who have a disability. Even if you have a disability you can still do anything that anyone else can do! Don't ever forget that! You are amazing and this story will help remind you of that and hopefully give you some inspiration as well!!!!
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for the advanced ARC, I am honored to get chosen to read this story. I was only asked to give my honest opinion in return and this is my honest opinion.
After a devastating buggy accident when she was a teenager, Anna Flaud is determined to learn to walk again. She has been in a wheelchair for 7 years, and she works hard toward her goal, to walk across the floor to Gabe, the young Amish boy that asked her to marry him after the accident. After moving into her Aunt's dawdi house, she signs up for physical therapy where she meets Levi King, Amish Physiotherapist, and works very hard every day to learn to walk again.
Feelings start to grow between them, but both know they cannot be together. Levi takes care of his younger brother that is special needs due to an accident when he was a toddler and Anna is in a wheelchair working toward walking to Gabe and answering his proposal.
Anna learns to walk and walks to Gabe, but realizes things have changed in the last 7 years and she goes home brokenhearted. She is all done with physical therapy and realizes she misses Levi. She signs up to be a foster mom like her aunt and runs into Gabe while taking a CPR class. Anna meets Levi's little brother and he loves her instantly. She becomes a foster parent temporarily and her and Levi become close friends and work toward a future together.
I would like to thank author Rachel J. Good for the ecopy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This book is book 3 in ahte Unexpected Amish Blessings series and is scheduled to be released on November 24, 2020 . This book will bring your emotions alive as it covers faith, compassion, foster care and love.
I have mixed feelings about this book. The first half of it was delightful. I found myself so engrossed in Anna and Levi's story that I nearly forgot about dinner.
First the good:
Anna and Levi were both excellent, well fleshed out characters. It wasn't hard to see what they saw in each other, which is a nice change from novels where I'm honestly not sure what the characters like about the other. Their relationship had it's bumps and misunderstandings, but they weren't dragged on for drama's sake.
The author was vague about Anna's injury, which allowed for enjoyable reading without her disability distracting from the story. There was no reason for us to know more than we did (I personally feel it would have caused me to think more about Anna's disability than was necessary). She was a character who was was disabled, but that was not the entire plot of the book.
Both main characters suffered from guilt over past actions, but the author did not beat us over the head with the fact, trusting that we could remember on our own without constant reminders (a huge pet peeve of mine).
Up until about two thirds of the way through the book, I found part of the back cover description confusing. It was very misleading. Unfortunately, it was that plot twist that made the last third of the book less enjoyable.
That "plot twist" came out of nowhere. It felt very rushed, both in execution and in conclusion. I was disappointed, as up until then the story was very realistic and accurate as regards to foster care. This situation was realistic, but not how rushed it was. Everything happened in a matter of days/months. The author clearly had the knowledge and ability to tell the story properly, I suspect publication requirements stifled this.
The previous situation led to my second and last issue. I was silently praising the author for writing a Christian romance that was honest yet not preachy. That changed immediately after the previously mentioned plot twist. That too was rushed and jammed into the ending. *sigh*
All that being said, I'm still giving the book four stars. I liked it, and I'm sure people who aren't as familiar with the foster care/adoption system wouldn't be as bothered by the end as I was. And ultimately, I would definitely read another book by this author.
An ARC of this book was provided to me for an honest review.
His Accidental Amish Family, Book 3 of the Unexpected Amish Blessings series, is a well-written, sweet story of triumph over and resilience through adversity. It follows Anna Flaud and Levi King as they both struggle to make peace with painful, consequential events of their pasts and move forward to possible future happiness together. The characters are well-developed and touched my heart; especially the children who are precious. I love Anna’s inspiring strength, determination, and self-sufficiency despite having to use a wheelchair. The plot flows at a steady pace with expressive prose. I appreciate the faith element addressing the spiritual lesson of forgiving yourself and seeking and accepting God’s will and guidance. Ms. Good is a new author to me, and I like her style. As a lover of Amish fiction, I will definitely read her other works. I thoroughly enjoyed this book from beginning to teary-eyed end and highly recommend it!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher via netgalley but am under no obligation to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
His Accidental Amish Family by Rachel J. Good.
Have you ever pick up a book and spend time admiring the cover? This cover is just too beautiful. The artist or photographer did an excellent job with this book cover.
I am so glad to be reading an Amish novel. I like returning to the Amish community fictionally.
Sweet Anna. I could empathized with her from the first few pages.
The author writes so well.
Levi, dear Levi. He won my heart with his personality. I was curious to see the end but I had to be patient and enjoy the pages.
Such a great book.
Themes of adoption, foster care, family, food, love etc were explored heavily here.
5 perfect stars rating. Rachel J. Good has won a spot in my heart among my favourite Amish authors.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Kensington Books through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are mine.
Loved this book! Anna was in a buggy accident with her boyfriend when she was a teenager. As a result, she has been in a wheelchair since then & was basically told she would never walk again. Levi works at the Community Care Center helping people like Anna with varying disabilities. He began working there because of an accident when he was younger that affected his younger brother, Jonah. As a result of her accident, Anna can never have children so she feels like no man will ever want to be her husband. She begins therapy to try to walk again so her former boyfriend might want to marry her but while she is doing her therapy with Levi, she finds herself becoming more attracted to him. Also while she is doing therapy, she decides to become a licensed foster parent. During this time, three children whose father was killed & mother was arrested are placed with Anna. Through this placement, Anna learns a lot about herself and also about Levi.
Thank you to the publisher, Zebra Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book. This is my honest and unbiased opinion of this book! I would not hesitate to buy this book & also would love to read more books by this author and publisher!
