Good news! If you love the Pioneer Woman this book will be right up your alley! Rhee’s personality is very much reflected in her writing. A love story!
If you’re not a Pioneer Woman fan-this book will not change your mind. She comes across overly self absorbed.
The book is written in a chatty readable style and moves along quickly & predictably.
I really didn't know anything about Ree Drummond before this book so I was excited to read it and learn more about her. That said, her love story with her "Marlboro Man" husband didn't connect with me and I stopped reading shortly after their first date as I had zero interest in learning anymore. Perhaps some recipes intertwined with the story would have kept my attention? Not sure. But as written, it lost my interest and I could not finish the book.
This was a quick romantic read about Ree Drummond's courtship with her husband. The stories about Ree's introduction to farm life were entertaining and humorous. I had read that this material started out as blog posts and that is why she refers to her husband, Ladd as the Marlboro Man in order to preserve their privacy. I feel like they should have changed this when it became a book as it made it read awkwardly. It also would have benefitted from editing some of the descriptions that seemed redundant. (Many descriptions of his shirts, arms and kissing)
I have watched her cooking shows early on and was always warmed by her stories. She invites us into her life, photograph, and on the farm so this was nice to see how she grew up and how she met Lad. Thanks to NetGalley and William Morrow for a gifted copy. This is my honest review.
This was a cute book about Ree and Ladd and the way they met up through their first year of marriage. It was funny and honest and I found it an enjoyable read.
I hadn't read the Pioneer Woman's love story before; but I do devour her recipes! Well-written and sweet, but also very introspective and honest. Even in such a brief time, she weaves together a complex story with twists and turns and surprises. I didn't hang on every word, but I think I just wasn't in the mood for what amounts to be a memoir. Very enjoyable for fans of Ree Drummond!
Eeeek, Ouch, I had so very high hopes for this book because I adore Ree and watch her show all the time but an author sadly she is not. It reads like a small girl wrote the story. It was kinda whiny and apparently consists of blog posts just tossed on the page running together. It makes no sense and is hard to read even though I feel like had it been written in a different way this would have been a lovely story that I would have enjoyed so much more.
I enjoyed The Pioneer Woman memoir. Ree Drummond is honest, warm, and hilarious. In a world where love seems to be taken for granted, it’s nice to read about someone who is passionate about her husband. Perhaps because I was a city girl who married a country guy, I can sympathize with Ree when she moved to the ranch. This book relates the time period from meeting the Marlboro Man to their marriage and new baby. Thank you Book Club Girl and #NetGalley for an e-copy of this book.
Easy breezy read. I’m a fan of pioneer woman and this book shows how down to earth she really is. Didn’t realize she was kind of man crazy though. Bothered me that she called her now husband Marlboro Man through entire book and barely acknowledged his name. Also she seemed to be very self centered and kind of dismissed her entire family while being obsessed with her Marlboro Man. I think she has grown. Thankfully. Fun references to fun fashion of the times.
This story is about how Ree met and fell in love with her husband, who she calls The Marlboro Man.
She was mid twenties when they met, at a crossroads in her life. She’d gotten out of a four year relationship and decided to move back home to Oklahoma. Her next stop was going to be Chicago. But her plans changed when she met her future husband.
He was unlike any man she’d ever met before. He was a cowboy. She was a girl who grew up in a house on a golf course, not living far from him but living a completely different life. Her life involved country clubs.
I can see why she fell in love with this guy. He seems like a kind, loving gentleman to me. He cared about her feelings and things like whether she made it home ok. I’m not the only one who will say that she got on my nerves. I think she was possibly a bit spoiled by her parents and grew out of it but hadn’t yet done that when she met this guy.
I was interested in the book because I like her cookbooks and wanted to know this story about her life. But what happened was that I came away thinking I could see why she changed her plans to marry the cowboy.
I got an ebook copy of this book from Book Club Girl and was sent the copy through NetGalley. Thanks!
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this ARC. If you read Ree's blog, you already know she's a great writer! This book is about her romance with Marlboro Man, which you probably know about if you read her food blog. Parts of it were laugh-out-loud funny, but in the end, it was a memoir about a romance. .Good writing, but way too long, it needed editing.
Can't even finish it. So far Ree ran over her dog (and went on a date the same night), broke up with a boyfriend of four years without seeing him face to face and hasn't revealed the name of her new boyfriend after seeing him multiple times. My patience has run out.
I really enjoyed learning the back story to how Ree became The Pioneer Woman. I found her story interesting and it held my attention throughout the entire book.
Thank you to HarperCollins Publishers, NetGalley, and The Bookclub Girls for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I love Ree and her clan but I think she needs to stick with her yummy recipes. I didn't enjoy the format of blog book. I could hear speaking through the print but very light and not well-written.
This was not my most favorite read. I gave it a solid 3 stars. I am not sure all blogging translates to book writing. I enjoy her blog, for what it is, small tidbits of her life. I read a lot of this story on her blog before it was compacted into a book form. I am just not sure it was for me. It was a very juvenile reading.
This was very interesting! I have heard a lot about the Pioneer woman and her place in OK. It was a real person's life, how she grew and became who she is.
The writing was very good and the story very interesting - I enjoyed it alot. Thanks to my Facebook Book club for a copy of this book
Thanks to HarperCollins Publisher and The Book Club Girls for this copy!
I loved reading The Pioneer Woman Blog, so this should be a fun trip down memory lane!
