This was a fascinating topic and the book covered some terrific and inspiring material. The writing was a little disjointed at times and the pace slow from time to time. But what a great part of history to learn more about! There was clearly a lot of research put into this book and it really showed in the depth of information presented.
This book was a little disappointing in some ways - the author switched tenses and allowed herself to put thoughts into her subjects, which in some instances made them more characters rather than actual people. It is very American explorer focus, rather than the subtitle which lead me to think it would be world focus; but the range of women covered is good, and it can lead you into further reading.
You go girls!! Every school should teach the lessons of these women pioneers and encourage young girls to embrace their sexuality and go wherever their heart takes them.
This book pays great homage to brilliant woman who are “first in their field.” It is a great collection of stories and the viewpoints of pioneering women determined to do and explore as they please. Inside all of these women we find that determination trumps all... including bravery. They prove that bravery is merely an afterthought to determined action.
I like this as showing the power of womanhood- as different from wanting to be like a man. The message for women here is to stop trying to be like a man- but harness the power and determination of a woman. And then you can do anything!
