This is a twisted story of just how a few lies can spin into life ruining accusations. Eventually everyone's secrets come out but is it too late? This was a fast pace twisted tale of the "perfect" neighborhood and neighbors who aren't perfect at all. Love the story and how it became a huge tangle web of lies and truth. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

What a fun, delightful book. Topics that ate right out of everyday headlines. Characters you might recognize as your neighbors and friends. A book to get carried away with.
Thanks to author, publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book. While I got the book for free, review is my own.

I read this in one night - intense. This was a dark tale of what lies underneath seemingly perfect suburban facades. I think what makes this unique is the slightly dystopian feel, with a touch of magical realism. Much like The Need or Leave the World Behind, I will be thinking about this one for a while. I read this right after finishing a novel that was much more overt in its depiction of the effect of Trumpism on our country and our society but this was potentially a more effective way of depicting that menace.

This was the first Sarah Langan book I have read and I a m wondering why it took me so long to pick one up. Good Neighbors by Sarah Langan is an amazing story about a community living on Maple Street and what happens when gossip and tragedy collide. A sink hole devastates this community. Before the local government can manage to cover the sink hole. a young girl falls in. Rescue missions are on going for days. But why did Shelly fall? What or who was she running from? So many questions are asked but few are answered. Langan keeps you guessing and in a constant state of wonderment.
I will definitely be recommending this story to others and will be checking out Langan other works. I enjoyed the characters in this book, even the ones that were a little undesirable. Langan's writing is easy to follow and the chapters flowed nicely. I think this book could be a great movie or series. It is definitely something I would watch! Special thanks to NetGalley, Sarah Langan, and Atria Books for the advanced digital copy in exchange for my honest opinion. 4.5 stars

This was one of the most unique books I have read this year. I'm not sure I enjoyed it as much as I thought but I can still take a step back and see the book for what it was which was funny, intense, and entertaining. I think this will be a big hit.

Dark, disturbing tale of suburbia gone horribly wrong. When Gertie, Arlo and their kids move to the perfect neighborhood, they know they don’t fit in. When Arlo gets accused of a crime he didn’t commit right after a horrible accident occurs in the neighborhood, the neighbors turn on the family with terrifying results. This book is really scary and disturbing and impossible to put down. I highly recommend this book, but make sure you clear your schedule first.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! No spoilers. Beyond amazing I enjoyed this book so very much. The characters and storyline were fantastic. The ending I did not see coming Could not put down nor did I want to. Truly Amazing and appreciated the whole story. This is going to be a must read for many many readers. Maybe even a book club pick.

Amazing! This thriller pulled me in from the first page! Heartbreaking and horrifying in equal measures. Believable, beautifully flawed characters drive the tale of a neighborhood spiraling into chaos, madness and murder during an unbelievably hot summer. A must read for fans of FantasticLand, by Mike Bockoven! Brilliant!

Good Neighbors may just well be the most uncomfortable book you read all year.
It feels like a non-SF homage to a Twilight Zone classic – I won’t tell you which one because it would definitely be a spoiler. I’ll just say that it shows humanity at its worst…again and again and again.
The characters here – most of them need to be punched. Not slapped. Punched right in the face. They are that horrible.
I should also warn you that there’s only the slightest bit of hope here, and almost all of that lies with the children. The adults? Yeah, punch ‘em.
The book doesn’t leave you feeling good. It’s not sweetness and light and redemption. It’s ugly, but’s good ugly and exquisitely written.
An excellent book, though you may need loads of marshmallow fluff and rainbows afterward.

This is story set in the future. A future of global warming and other assiduous elements of nature. Most importantly it's about how people in a neighborhood can alienate and cause serious damage to other people that they don't believe are set up to their standards.
It is rather sad that a chance comment can change people's lives in such a terrible way.
Not being invited by a so called best friend to a neighborhood barbecue, can have lasting consequences. Bullying children have dire effects on other children.
This book brings to mind the awful events that occur with malicious gossip and lies.
Well written.

A creepy neighborhood set in the future. This wasn't really my type of book once I started reading it. I stuck it out though because I enjoyed Rhea, she is the Queen of the neighborhood and she manipulates everyone. I just loved her character and wanted to see what she was going to do next.
Overall, I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought but it was still an ok read.
Thanks to Atria and Netgalley for ebook copy.

DNF @ 39%.
I stopped properly reading at the 39% mark, but did kind of skim through the end because even though I lost interest in the details, I still wanted to find out what happened. For what this book was, I think it did it well. This is more a case of me not being the right reader for the book (which is happening to me a lot lately). With the way the world is right now, I just can't make myself read a book that is all about people misjudging each other and being generally awful to one another. Reading is my escape and we get enough of this hatefulness in real life.

Summary: A once family friendly neighborhood on Long Island is torn apart by family secrets, climate change, tar filled sinkholes, and nasty rumors.
Comments: A dramatic family driven suspense novel that is made of many genres convincingly weaved together. Desperate housewives, crime drama, dystopian future, and deep suspense drives this wonderful narrative. I’ve honestly never read such an original script with so many complex plot lines woven together. Don’t think for one second anything turns out well at the final few pages. We all have thought are neighbors are normal, well maybe not. Thank you to Atria publishing for the request.

Good Neighbors is certainly a “different” type of story. I can’t say is was my “cup of tea.”
Dangers of living in suburbia....what are your neighbors up to? For sure some mysterious and dark things!
Thank you to NetGallery, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest opinion.

Whoa. This book was a helluva ride, from the start to the end! It’s “Real Housewives” meets “Snapped.” I found myself identifying with Gertie most, but surprisingly, also Rhea and the children. The underlying theme of climate change also illustrates a very real threat that we face, and how much worse it’ll be in the future if we don’t take control of it. Children should not disappear in sinkholes due to extreme heat. Mothers should not have homicidal ideation for their neighbors and friends. This story is ripe for unpacking so many woven layers and I loved every moment of it!

Thank you so much to Atria books and #netgalley for the arc in exchange for my honest review.
Set a years in the future this book was different if I'm being honest. Its not something that I usually read but it was good in a weird way. When I first started, I wasn't sure if I was even going to finish it, but I stuck with it and I'm glad I did. Rhea is the perfect Queen Bee of the block and I feel like she completely manipulates Gertie and her family. Tensions rise when Rhea's daughter disappears into a sinkhole and the Queen Bee is out for blood.
Its a interesting read that I am happy to say I really enjoyed!

Loved all the extraneous details and forward flashing. Too easy to get sucked in. When you start reading this one, make sure your evening plans are canceled!

This is a fantastic novel and true to it's word: I would consider this is a mash up of LITTLE FIRES EVERYWHERE, BIG LITTLE LIES, and Shirley Jackson. I was riveted to this story.

Oh my! What a fabulous book! As a general rule, I enjoy psychological thrillers most. But every now & then I prefer a good, emotional bit of women’s fiction. This was the perfect blend of both! Due to the nature of this book there’s a good bit of suspense. But whereas most mysteries or thriller are mainly clues, red herrings & plots, Good Neighbors weaves a hefty amount of female friendships (the different types) with the “trying-ness” of motherhood, all wrapped up with a deep, delicious emotional bow🎁. I really enjoy a solid, substantial read now & then mixed with all scary, psycho thrillers. FIVE ABSOLUTE STARS

A picture perfect neighborhood is rocked to its core when lies and tragedy enter its safe and privileged orbit. Ex-rock star and drug user, Arlo Wilde and his fading beauty queen wife, mouthy tween daughter and eclectic son have always felt out of place in their suburban enclave, excluded and ostracized. Things appear to be changing though, when the neighborhood’s unofficial “ruler” Rhea Schroeder, takes the family into her heart and into her home. But when alcohol loosens tongues, secrets that should have never seen the light of day are exposed just as Rhea’s daughter disappears and shocking allegations against the Wilde family rapidly become a witch hunt. This book makes me so happy I don’t live in a “neighborhood” , where people are watched, judged and found wanting
