So much potential, but it was just a little off for me. First half is a bit slow, second half is a rather dark.
Round up to 3.5

First and foremost, the cover of this book is amazing. I realize as an illustrator, I totally judge a book by its cover, it is what it is! And this book matched its cover well. I loved the book even though it creeped me out a bit becsuse I realized from the start of the story— I get it! I have always been anxious in antique stores and around hand me down furniture. So this story really resonated with my own feelings about objects holding memories. Antique lovers and collectors will enjoy this book!
I am grateful for the opportunity to enjoy this little magical journey with these characters.
Thanks!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
That being said, I really enjoyed the Memory Collectors and am rating it 4 stars. The premise of the book was quite interesting: Evelyn and Noemi, sisters who can both feel stains and other emotions in objects, have been through tragedy and still are trying to salvage their relationship... then we meet Harriet, another character with the same gifts as Ev and Noemi, but her involvement in the sisters’ past brings another dimension to the story.
I found it fascinating to read about the feelings from objects, and thought this was a really interesting idea for a novel.

The Memory Collectors was definitely a different book. Ev and Harriet collect things. I felt it was a little slow at first and enjoyed the characters and the story. Made me wonder about how people project their feelings onto objects

A beautifully written, descriptive novel with a touch of darkness. The characters are flawed enough to keep things interesting and the plot moving along.

Thanks to NetGalley& Atria books for the advanced e-copy to review.
The Memory Collectors was interesting. It started off with a touch of mystery--Evelyn helping her dad in his workshop, "feeling" the "stains" of objects-which objects were "good" vs "evil", if you will. The story moves along, meeting the few people in Evelyn's life (Oliver, friend, Naomi, sister, & Harriet, newcomer who takes over the story a bit, & is a hoarder). Towards the middle of the book, the hoarding disease of Harriet, as well as Naomi's character, somewhat takes over & the story takes a dark turn. The book was fine, not lighthearted despite the ending. Just a strange twist.

Evelyn has a special gift, she can feel emotions in objects. She feels most need to be destroyed, however the harmless she sells at the Chinatown Night Market.
Across town, Harriett hoards thousands of treasures. So many she makes her neighbors sick with the abundance of emotions floating around. When these two women randomly meet, Harriett knows Evelyn is strong enough to make something of their strengths and her collections. Harriett hires Evelyn to help her build a museum. This museum would hold her collections and help people heal through the power of positivity within the objects. As the novel progresses the women help each other understand and use their gifts as well as heal from their troubled pasts.
This is the first novel I have read on Netgalley and been disappointed by. The concept and idea of this book is a good one, but it feels underdeveloped and boring at times. The character development was not very strong. None of the characters were very like able nor memorable. I felt the whole thing needed more explanation as it fell flat for me. With that said, I thank Netgalley and Atria for the advance copy for my honest review and the opportunity to read this.

The Memory Collectors by Kim Neville is an excellent contemporary fiction that has a bit of a magical/sixth sense element to it that kept me interested and guessing until the end.
I definitely do not want to give away any of the plot surprises and twists, as this is so unique that I cannot dare spoil this for others, but suffice to say this is nothing like I have ever read (and that is a good thing).
Evelyn and Harriet have an extra aura about them that they can feel and sense things from inanimate objects. Both women have complicated pasts and relationships and have faults of their own. Finding each other to help recognize and “work through” this burden is what I liked the most. There were fantastic descriptions of places and things and there were times that I felt I was actually there. There were some darker elements to this novel, however these women had a shadowy aspect to part of their lives, so it does seem fitting looking back. The whimsical aspect and the bonds formed and broken during this journey was what I enjoyed reading about the most.
4/5 stars

Loved Kim Neville's "The Memory Collectors!". Interesting, unusual characters in an equally interesting and unusual story. I read it in one sitting and already hoping for more from this author .

I am thankful to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this eARC! I did enjoy this book - the characters were very interesting and their interactions with each other was something that kept the story moving along. I enjoyed the first half of the book more than the second. The book started out a bit whimsical with an air of magic, charm, and something a little otherworldly, which was really delightful. There was some conflict, but not so much as to cast a dark shadow on the lightness of the book. The second half of a book took a turn into a very dark place - murder, hoarding, mental issues, etc. It was very well done, and if you like detailed descriptions of places and items, this book is for you. I was hoping for something slightly more upbeat in my reading life right now, but I can't fault the book for not meeting my moods!

I found this novel completely enjoyable!! The highly sensitive characters, and the objects whose emotions they feel are entirely intriguing and woven seamlessly into a well-developed story. The characters and settings are believable and engrossing (and even a bit scary toward the end of the story). Very good book!!

This book was interesting, but it could've been better. Did not like sister character. ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.
