This one is a chilling, fast paged domestic thriller. As soon as Georgina finds her son sucking on a lollipop he didn't have moments earlier she knows that something is wrong. He tells her it was a gift from "New Granny," a woman he met at the park while he was playing in the bushes. Georgina's husband insists that Cody's imaginary friend is just that -- imaginary. There are lots of places a little boy could get his hands on a piece of candy and they both know that their son misses his real grandmother, who recently passed away. I love that this story is told from beginning to end, all from Georgina's point of view as she tries to figure out if "New Granny" is a real person or if her sanity is starting to slip again. Her thoughts frequently stray to "The shadows. The clock. The Stuffed animal." and I felt like it took a bit too long before she finally explained that to the reader.

Georgina's son seems to have an imaginary new Granny, yet that little voice inside her is telling her its something more. Haunted by a series of incidents that leave her wondering if she is imagining things or if she really does need to take a more drastic route to figure out what's really going on. Without the support of her husband, Bren, she finds herself searching for answers, alone, while trying to defend her own sanity.
This book sucked me in from page one and I had a tough time putting it down. Suspenseful and addictive, I was left questioning everything and I never saw the final twist coming. This was my first book by Rachel Ryan but I very much enjoyed this book and I'll surely be back for more!

This book had my mama instincts flaring up! Ryan does a great job of crafting characters and a world where you're not sure if the narrator is reliable. You don't really want to believe there is something nefarious going on and the twisty path Ryan takes the reader down is a whirlwind. I loved this book! Very well done.

Thank you NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book. I really liked the premise of the book and it is what had me initially interested. The story started off very strong but began to taper off for me. The book quickly began to feel long and drawn out - even with the short chapters. I really wanted to like the book but the ending left no real resolve and was a little too far fetched. 2.5 stars rounded up.

Georgina and Bren have a seven-year-old son Cody. Life hasn't been easy for Georgina recently. Her mother died and her marriage may be in trouble. Add in the fact that she works part-time, goes to school, has a very energetic son, and is pretty much exhausted all the time. When Cody tells her his New Granny gave him candy, she is upset. She is still mourning her mother, but when she tells Bren, he shrugs it off. He is sure that Cody is just missing his grandmother, and it isn't unusual for a boy his age to have an imaginary friend.
Soon, strange things begin to happen. Phone calls where no one seems to be on the line, Georgina's feeling of being followed, petty vandalism at their house, and the odd behavior of not only her neighbor but her father too. Bren insists that she is overreacting and should see 'someone', which doesn't help the situation or her state of mind. Is Georgina riding the cray cray train, or is New Granny up to no good.
While the mystery of whether or not Georgina is losing her mind was intriguing, it was very difficult to like or root for any of the characters. Bren is condescending, and Georgina continually assumed the position of a household doormat. I also struggled with a seven-year-old who could successfully pull off saying New Granny is real, New Granny is imaginary, without someone discovering the truth sooner. The pace picked up when secrets start to fall from certain characters' closets. There were many red herrings, but the truth seemed to come out of left field. The Woman Outside My Door wound up falling firmly between a three and four-star read for me.

I really enjoyed this book!
I love a good story where you’re absolutely unable to determine if someone is losing their mind, legitimately noticing sinister things, or being gaslighted. The first half of this book does that brilliantly.
The second half, once you know whether the things the main character thinks are happen are real or not, unfolds more like a run of the mill mystery but was still a pretty well told story.
This book was a well written quick read, recommended for fans of B.A. Paris,

The cover is cool, but that's all that's good I have to say. They spend 65% of the book not listening to one another and are then amazed when there is a crisis. Long sigh.

Oh my gosh this book hooked me from the beginning and kept me turning pages into the night! I read it in one day.
The plot and well placed characters had me trying to figure it out. No dice!
There were multiple times I just had to gasp out loud and talk to the characters! One big twist made me have to put my kindle down just to absorb the shock!
I highly recommend this book! This was the first time I’ve read Rachel Ryan but certainly not the last. Super talented.

This was a decent mystery/thriller. 7-year old Cody starts telling his parents about his friend New Granny. But sometimes Cody claims that New Granny is real, and sometimes he insists that she is imaginary. His parents aren’t sure what to believe...
I enjoyed the book but felt that it had pacing problems. It seemed like a lot of action took place in one chapter, then the next three chapters were the parents arguing about their marital problems. I still liked the characters though and I did not figure out the mystery!

The Woman Outside My Door by Rachel Ryan. Didn't see that ending coming, very suspenseful, twisty, and chilling story. Although Georgie was annoying at times and Bren over protective, it was engrossing read.
Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.

Georgina and Bren have been married almost 10 years and have a son, Cody whose 7. Georgina's mother passes away and she has been upset since that time. Cody was very close to his grandmother but when he tells his mother that his "New Granny" gave him candy, she is very upset. Bren has his own secret that is tearing him apart, and it's causing more stress in the marriage, but he says Georgina is over reacting and that it is perfectly normal for Cody to have an imaginary friend, but when she finds him laughing on the phone with New Granny and lies about it, she's at her wits end.
This book captured me from page 1. It takes you in one direction and then in the next chapter, you're taken another. It is quite the nail biter, and takes you on trails you don't see coming. Very good first effort for this author.

Georgina and Bren have a 7 year year old son who suddenly starts talking about a new granny after a trip to the park. Georgina at first thinks it is an imaginary friend because his only remaining grandma has recently died but there are disturbing things happen to make her reevaluate and wonder who this new granny is. Meanwhile Georgina and Bren have recently had marital problems and he starts to question her sanity.
Overall I liked this book, it was a fairly short quick read. At first it didn't seem like too much was happening, a lot of setting the stage with "appearances" of this new granny and the marital problems but in the second half things got going and I enjoyed it. I would read more from this author.

“The woman outside my door” by Rachel Ryan had a promising and interesting plot, but fell short of being a true page turner for me. The premise was unique—Georgina, a stressed out mom to 7 year old son Cody, is concerned when her son begins obsessing over his imaginary friend. The story takes you on a journey on wondering is it really a normal imaginary friend or is something more sinister going on?
For me, the characters were annoying. I didn’t find one that I gravitated towards and pulled me in. I felt it was a little cliche and condescending for the husband to think the wife was automatically insane. But maybe that is just because I’m sick of women and mothers particularly being labeled as crazy. While the book had promise, I felt that the ending was sort of far fetched and not in a good way.

What if your son's imaginary friend isn't imaginary and you're just Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs?
In a market saturated with thrillers I loved how different this was and how it surprised me time and again. Many of the characters were tough to like but I felt they were they were meant to be.
I like books like this where if you do your due diligence as a reader you have a shot at working it out but nothing is handed to you.
Fantastic debut!
Thank you to Gallery Books for gifting me a copy. It was my pleasure to write an honest review!

Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. This book kepy my attention from start to finish. It kept we guessing until the very end. I cant wait to read Rachel' Ryan's ne1xt book.

So darn creepy! The Woman Outside My Door is a well-crafted mystery/suspense novel that will surprise you time and time again! Rachel Ryan did a great job building a storyline with the perfect amount of clues at best possible times! I love playing detective while read mystery novels and I love it more when I’m wrong and let me say all of my theories were wrong! The Woman Outside My Door is a 5 star novel that I flew through because I had to find out the truth!!! Rachel Ryan is most definitely going to be an author I will keeping on my radar!

I didn’t think anything stood out in this book to me. The writing was kind of ordinary. The plot was cookie cutter. The characters seemed like stereotypes.

Georgina, a stressed out mother to Cody, a mischievous 7 year old, is still reeling from the recent death of her mother. So when Cody tells her about the friend he met at the park,"New Granny," Georgina is rightly upset and mildly suspicious. Her husband, Bren, writes it off as just an imaginary friend, but as small treats and notes begin to appear, Georgina starts to fear that New Granny is real and dangerous. Juggling a strained marriage, her job, college classes, and her son, Georgina feels like the world is against her, but she will stop at nothing to protect her son at all costs.
I really enjoyed this book and flew through it. I was hoping for a more super natural angle, but I still felt that the story was a good one. The ending was a total blind side, but I actually liked how it all came together. I would recommd this book for anyone. Great psychological thriller.

When your child starts talking to an imaginary friend first your humored then you’re amused then you’re terrified. What is the imaginary friend isn’t so imaginary. Part psychological thriller part horror, this book is sure to be entertaining to all that read it.
