I was pleasantly surprised by <i>Forget Me Not</i>. I had zero expectations and I'm glad I did because this was nothing like anything I have read before. It is set in the not too distant future, so it's a little bit sci-fi, but real enough to be close to modern. There's a little bit of gaming and virtual reality, but it's more of an underlying theme. This is a more of a story that makes you think. Could we be following someone that was been cloned? Could we be reading about someone who is really an artificial intelligence in a virtual reality game? You know that's probably not possible, but the writing is so well done that you aren't completely convinced of either.
I didn't think I was going to like this book, but I ended up being pleasantly surprised. If you want something a little out of the ordinary that will hold you attention, definitely pick this one up.

I absolutely loved Alexandra Oliva’s debut novel The Last One, so was really eager to get to her follow-up. It’s in the general same kind of literary-minded thriller style, but it just did not grab me the way her first did. In part, that’s a high bar to meet, but also I guessed a major plot development very early on and I am generally very bad at guessing these sorts of things. Definitely would make a very good beach/plane read!

Born to be a replacement daughter for the one that was tragically lost too early, Linda is doomed to failure from the start. After being neglected and isolated for years to run free on their property, Linda escapes over a fence at the age of 12 and into a world she doesn't understand full of unknown tech, social media, and judgment about her own origin. Falsely dubbed #clonegirl where everyone knows her story, Linda hides herself from the world. But when Anvi, a new neighbor, moves in, seemingly unaware of Linda's true identity, and introduces her to VR games she finally sees hope for a true friendship. Then a fire leads her back to the property where she grew up, seeing it for the first time as an adult and making her question everything she thought she knew.
Linda's memories and emotions were just so heartbreaking and real. Thrust from a world of neglect and isolation into a public full of scorn and judgment, it's no wonder she hides herself from the world. The author had a way of making me connect with this character, feeling her emotions, shifting through her unreliable memories, and finally becoming a strong courageous woman despite her past. I liked this book so much!

I really couldn’t get into this book at all. It wasn’t dull, the characters were interesting but for some reason it didn’t really grab me until the kindle told me I was about 60% finished. then it started to get really interesting and soon it was just..over. I dunno. It was ok, definitely not a terrible book but for me it lacked something that I can’t pinpoint. However I can not in good conscious give it a bad review as it was very well written and characters were interesting…just not for me.

Very interesting concept! I am not into sci fi and fantasy but this book caught my attention because VR is hard to capture in a book but this did it perfectly!

For not being a fan of the genre, I was surprised to find myself into the book and wanting to read more. If you are curious give it a try

This was definitely a unique novel. Honestly, I just wasn't invested in it due to the topics I have no interest in reading about....gaming, and virtual reality. I may be in the minority, but this book was not for me.

Linda is an extremely likable person even if she doesn’t know how to trust or interact properly.

This story will have you questioning what year it is set. It reads like today but with some futuristic items and situations.

Enjoyable and mildly thrilling as you stumble through life and happening with Linda. You learn who to trust through her eyes and the outside actions told in another POV.

This would be the perfect book for someone who is "into" VR. It is about a woman thrust into a world she cannot understand, and finds a welcome world in the the cloud.

Linda Russell's childhood wasn't easy. Born only to replace her deceased sister, she lived with her mother in seclusion, on a twenty-acre, walled-off property in rural Washington. When she finally escapes, she must navigate a very different world than the one she grew up in.

Set in the near future, Forget Me Not is part science fiction, part thriller, part cold case drama, and part social commentary. I haven't read anything like this. This is a character-driven novel more than a plot-driven novel, so it has a little bit of a slower build. Though this is typical of science fiction stories, the slow pacing might not be for everyone. However, the story is compelling, the characters are wonderfully flawed, and the plot is deeply original.

This book didn't quite do it for me as much as Alexandra Oliva's first novel The Last One. Forget Me Not is based in the near future and is about a narrator who was only born to replace her sister, and she was never quite up to task according to her mother. This book was a very exciting near-future sci-fi and I enjoyed the elements of a psychological thriller. Very surprising ending and I was most surprised by the fact that I wasn't in love with this book.

I'm not sure if this book would be considered science-fiction or a thriller. I guess it's a combination of both. It's a creative book that happens in the near future. I found it interesting that the author even refers to covid as a thing of the past.

Linda's childhood was not pretty. She lived off the grid in a forest with her mother, and never left until she became an adult. Linda never really understood why her mother treated her the way she did, until she uncovered the truth from her past. Linda lives a lonely life as an adult, and her first friend is her neighbor. I like how the author, Oliva, brought the neighbor into the story and incorporated how social media works in the lives of adults these days.

The twist at the end which answers many of the questions you have throughout the book is why I enjoyed this story.

I gave this book four stars. I was given this book for my honest review.

Forget Me Not by Alexandra Oliva is one of those unique books that breaks genre walls. It's a bit thriller. It's a bit sci-fi. It's deeply original. This isn't my usual type of read, but I was into it in the way I'll read every Blake Crouch novel. So, this is a review for those folks hesitant to give a novel with a clone plot line a try. Do!

I enjoyed this book, despite it being a little hard to put in a category. It's part thriller, part cold case, part social commentary. Despite this, it’s easy to follow. The two main characters are interesting on their own and I really liked the unusual 10-15 years in the future setting. I liked the emotions in this book- it's a bit more character-driven than people might expect, but overall very unique and well written.

I wanted to love this book so much because absolutely loved The Last One. The concept was super intriguing and not a little messed up. I was hoping for some of the same from Forget Me Not, but it just didn't get to me like her other one. Not a bad book by any means, just not what I was hoping for.

Somewhat futuristic story of a cloned woman and her disturbing childhood. Strong AI and gaming component. The most humanity came in the form of a four-legged animal. Disappointing second novel from Oliva.

Forget Me Not is a thriller mixed with science fiction in the most unique way. It follows Linda, a woman now, who grew up basically raising herself on an isolated property with her mother. Until one day she escapes and becomes headline news. Now she's just trying to survive in a world so different from the one in which she grew up. As she plays a new VR game she begins remembering things from her past and a sister she never met.
This one will keep you reading to find out exactly what happened to Linda when she was a child, and where her mother is now,
