This book came to me at the perfect time. I was really feeling burned out at work and this book really changed how I view my job. I enjoyed the author's advice on how to prioritize your life over your job.
Betting on You by Laurie Ruettimann is a non-fiction title sharing advice on how to take control of your daily life at work to work more effectively and experience greater satisfaction at work. The author has a very motivating tone, which is likely due to her background as a coach. The book focuses on tangible things you can do to work smarter, not harder instead of providing just motivational quotes. The book touches on important topics that impact women at the workplace such as imposter syndrome and boundaries at work. Although I did not completely identify with the author due to my stage in life, this book would be a helpful read for individuals looking for new jobs or those who just want to enjoy their current job a bit more.
Many thanks to the publisher Henry Holt & Company and Netgalley for the ARC in return for an honest review.
Betting on You is an interesting look at the workplace and HR. Ruettimann is relatable and engages the reader with great tales of the workplace. I enjoyed her style and the humor she brings to the page.
I found the information shared to be useful, motivating and easy to follow. While the author isn’t recreating the wheel and uncovering any great secrets, she does reinforce a strong focus on looking to one’s self which is a great message.
What happens when your best friend is a former HR director and current biz coach and you sit down for a cup of coffee to discuss where you should go from here in your career? You get Laurie and Betting on You. This is an upbeat read with reminders of your potential woven alongside realistic takes on the workforce. The author includes relatable storytelling and her witty personality throughout which makes it personable and fast to read.
This was a "did not finish" book for me, unfortunately. I would not say its a terrible book. My issue was I could not connect with the author or the people she spoke of. If you know of the author and her story resonates with you, I feel you would absolutely enjoy this book and have great take aways from it. It just was not for me and I could not get myself to finish it.
