This was a hard pass.
Did not like the characters, they were boring and annoying. the story was just okay? It was missing something, wich affected it all.
I really did enjoyed reading this book.
The characters were awesome described and I just couldn't stop reading it until I reached the last page. A great mix of romance and supernatural elements. I definitly enjoyed the plot and the good writing style.
This book wasn’t terrible, but it also wasn’t great. It took a lot of the great parts of different fandoms and bound the, together into its own story. I like that, it gave us all a piece of something we enjoyed. However, there are a lot of little things that just don’t add up. The timeline is a bit weird, things are right in your face even though they are later said to be hidden. It just doesn’t make any sense. It had a lot of potential, but I feel like it wasn’t completely finished before it was published.
Great storyline and plot very reminiscent of twilight and vampire diaries which makes sense since it was the authors inspiration. The cover art is fantastic and I just love it. I would recommend this to anyone who likes a good love/vampire story.
I received this book from NetGalley for an honest review.
I received a copy of the book from Netgalley to review. Thank you for the opportunity.
An interesting take on the vampire genre with some familiar elements alongside some new. The writing is sharp and witty. The characters are interesting and engaging.
A good read.
After the death of her mother, seventeen year old Chloe Madison leaves her Florida home to live with her Aunt, Uncle and Cousin Abby in the secluded Adirondack town of Keene Valley, NY. The move is hard on Chloe, especially after losing the only parent she has ever known. Luckily, Chloe's cousin Abby helps her adjust to her new school along with fellow new kid, Trent Halstead. Chloe falls into a new routine and becomes friendly with Trent. However, Chloe seems to be haunted by strange visions and panic attacks. Then, a series of deaths of their classmates rocks the small town. Chloe's visions intensify and force Trent to reveal the truth about his family along with another family in town. Now Chloe's life is in danger as she is caught in the middle of a century long family feud.
Eternal Curse is the first book of a vampire paranormal romance series. The author is upfront about this series being inspired by Twilight and The Vampire Diaries, so there are obvious similarities. Eternal Curse offers a unique storyline with some familiar elements along with well developed characters. Chloe captured my attention with the mystery surrounding her mother's death along with how she was carrying her grief while trying to fit into a new school and home. Trent's character wasn't as deeply explored, however, I did like the story of his creation, his family and the curse. The addition of the Zoya family also took the story in a different direction. I did like that Chloe's Aunt and Uncle were very involved and protective, especially with the deaths in town. The romance was sweet and not super rushed, although it seemed to move pretty quickly. I absolutely loved the setting in the Adirondacks. I have visited this area before and could easily imagine the waterfalls, back roads, school and even Adirondack Street. The suspense in the story swiftly picked up and continued through the surprising ending. I definitely want to see where this series goes next.
This book was received for free in return for an honest review.
I received this from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for am honest review.
I will start off by saying that this definitely gave me all the Twilight vibes. But I enjoyed the characters more and no 'sparkling' vampires made it more enjoyable.
This felt like a slightly older version of Twilight with more serious themes such as death amd grief.
The plot was excellent and once I started reading this I had trouble putting it down. I cant wait to read the sequels.
After a freak accident leaves her mother in a coma with little brain activity, Chloe Maddison has no choice but to respect her mother’s final wishes and pull the plug. Now, Chloe has to move away to a small town in the Adirondack Mountains, far away from everything she has ever known to live with her aunt and uncle and cousin Abby she has seen only a handful of times. In spite of everything that has happened in a short time, Chloe resolves to spend the rest of her high school days planning to leave once she turns eighteen. But her plans come to a halt when she meets Trent Halstead. Trent’s mysterious nature captivates Chloe in ways she never imagined, yet there is something off about Trent that she just can’t put her finger on.
Eternal Curse is the first book in The Cursed Series, which will have a grand total of six books. When I began reading, I was quickly hit with similarities between this book and Twilight. Although that may seem irritating for some, it was largely nostalgic to me and I was happy that the plot eventually came into its own. By the end of the book, I had many questions that left me guessing, but it wasn’t in a way that left me dissatisfied.
Chloe is a decent leading lady. She isn’t fully a damsel in distress and will talk back to those who annoy her. I enjoyed reading the beginnings of romance between her and Trent and can’t wait to see which way the series will go. I hope to also see more character development in all the characters as the series progresses.
Even though the plotline of “vampire falls in love with teenage girl at high school” is the base plotline of many young adult novels, Eternal Curse is a good book for the genre it falls under. It is a very enjoyable read and I finished it in less than a day.
I would recommend Eternal Curse to those who have a weakness for young adult vampire romance novels as I do.
I forced myself to finish this since I requested the arc, but honestly, it was pure torture. The storyline/ plot development was awful- like a really bad retelling of Twilight. The male MC is supposedly 102 years old but he acts like your typical sixteen year old, doesn't apply any previous life experiences. The author didn't keep a good timeline- she says that Trent's brother Cole died in 'the war' but they were born in 1915, and he was 19 when he dies, so what war are we talking about in the US in 1934? I found the family dynamics weird- Chloe has unlimited independence when living with her mom, but goes from that to super strict parentals with her aunt/ uncle without any problems? Very hard to believe that a 17 year old (unless it's like a living under a strict religion or Amish or other old fashioned background) won't mind being kept tabs on for every single little thing and not having a cell phone. Everything in this story was hard to believe the story didn't flow.
Although the storyline in Eternal Curse is sometimes eerily similar to the story of Twilight, this YA story kept my attention all the time. I raced through the story, feeling Chloe's pain of losing her mother, understanding her struggles to find a new home with her estranged aunt and uncle and being pulled into the brooding attraction with Trent and his always angry brother Jaxon. And why was I not surprised when Trent turned out to be a vampire?
So, yeah, definitely a lot of parallels with Twilight, but also a nice story on its own. The cliffhanger isn't my favorite: because now I have to wait for Eternal Choice. But in all four out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.
With the exception of a couple details, this was so like reading a modified version of Twilight. I haven’t done a re-read of the Twilight series in ages so reading this didn’t feel as repetitive as I thought it would initially.
The differences in the story with the addition of a witch’s curse made it so I was hooked into the storyline from the beginning. There were also instances where the female lead Chloe reacted to the supernatural world in a way that was “normal” and in a way that we all wished Bella had done in the Twilight series. Cause really.. you learn that your boyfriend is a blood sucking vampire and you DONT run for the hills?? It’s something that has always bugged me about Twilight and I’m so glad that the author of this book changed that detail.
Now the ending.. that was one I definitely did not agree with but for the sake of the continuation of this series, I did understand it. I just hope that the HEA I’m dying for is not too far off into the future.
This was my first read by this author and it was very good. It was a vampire/witch story with a love interest between human and vampire and hate interest between vampire/witch. The story had interesting characters with typical teenage problems, except for the vampire angle and a plot much like the Twilight books. I will mention that the story doesn’t conclude with this book, but continues with the next book. If you would rather read a stand alone, this isn’t for you. I did enjoy this book and it is well worth reading. I would love to read the next book in the series.
This wasn’t for me and it was not what I expected, I wasn’t keen on Chloe found her too whiny and self-centred and I found the pacing a bit erratic, I can’t really relate to this book.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion
Unfortunately this was a miss for me. Maybe I’m just getting too old for this type of YA book. I was initially excited when I saw Eternal Curse compared to Twilight and Vampire Diaries, because I enjoyed both. But it came off like fan fic to me. And my biggest gripe was Chloe. I’m over sad little girls who are blind and naive. Others may love this book, it just wasn’t for me.
Initially I thought this would be just another Twilight wannabee. It started off like that but quickly developed into quite a good story. There were many twists and turns and a well developed plot. The ending leaves you ready for the next part of this story.. Overall well done and I enjoyed it.
What a wonderful start to a new series i can't wait for the next book
This book gave me major Vampire Diaries (tv show) vibes it was just so good i didn't want it to end
Vampires 🗸
Witches who do black magic 🗸
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
What can I say? It was not what I expected and that's not in a good way.
The story is about Chloe Maddison a girl who moved from Florida to a small town after her mother's death because her father was absent for the last 10 years of her life. She lives with her aunt and uncle and cousin and becomes romantically involved with a vampire.
Imagine a copy paste of twilight without the finer details like living with her dad instead of her relatives. There are a few other exceptions one of them being the main protagonist doesn't want to become a vampire. Otherwise she is Bella Swan's twin sister in disguise.
Overall, I would not recommend.
I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
After her mom dies, Chloe is sent to live with relatives she barely knows in Keene Valley. Lonely and sad, she attempts to find her place and adjust to her new life. However, she quickly becomes intrigued by Trent, another new student. He's full of secrets and she can't help being drawn to him. Things take a dark turn when Chloe's classmates start turning up dead; plus, she starts to see things that aren't really there. And then she discovers that vampires and witches are real, a fact even more terrifying than the idea of a serial killer. Chloe doesn't know who to trust in this small town she's forced to call home.
The premise of this book was a fascinating concept! It sounded like a pretty decent paranormal romance and I was looking forward to it. However, it fell a little flat for me. I didn't really like Chloe; I felt like she made a lot of bad decisions, especially at the end. Abby wasn't a very likable character either. I felt like she wasn't as good to Chloe as she pretended to be. The other friends weren't really included too much, Trent was a pretty good character though! This book ended being a bit too much about teenage drama for me to really get too into it. I was hoping for more of the murder mystery and less of a high school romance. All in all, the plot was somewhat interesting but the characters weren't my favorite. The writing was good though! Personally, I've never read Twilight but I've heard some reviews say that Twilight fans should give this book a shot! I'm not sure if I'll read the next book as I was not happy with the ending of this book, but I might be willing to give it a go as I'm still curious about some things!
Chloe has just lost her mother and has had to move to a new town and live with a new family, meeting a boy names Trent seems like a dream come true until she discovers that he’s hiding a world that she never dreamed existed.
I wasn’t sure about this book at first, it started to feel very much like Twilight during the first few chapters. Luckily this comparison didn’t last long and it became a story in its own right. I did enjoy this book and I’m looking forward to the next installment, it felt like there were a lot of threads that were started in this book and not really finished up on. I would have liked to have seen more of Trents family in this book, it feels a little unfinished but hopefully that will change in the next book. Definitely worth a read for fans of Twilight and YA supernatural books.
Truly a mash up of Twilight and Vampire Diaries. You either love it or hate it. I am still unsure. The ending made me mad as heck and I will need to wait for the second to make a full decision.
The main character is ditzy, she misses everything and it feels like the worst parts of Elena and Bella. But I still liked her?
The guy was a swoon for me. Here for it.
Overall enjoyable, read in one evening. Just wish I had the second and don't want what I think is going to happen, to happen.
