This was a cute little book with adorable pictures about a polar bear who takes a trip to China and meets some new friends. I really enjoyed this book.
This is such a cute book and as always, I am a fan of the Little Polar Bear. The illustrations are just darling, and the characters are loveable. I read this one to my boys and they adored it. I will definitely recommend this to children coming into the Library!
It is so good to see a bilingual book for children! Having the translations side by side will really break down barriers for anyone looking to learn a new language. I wish more books would follow this format! The illustrations were also well done! Those were my favourite aspects of the book, by far. The story itself was sweet and fairly simple, but I found the storytelling to be overly wordy, making the read-through a bit awkward --although that could be helpful for people looking to learn more words in another language!
A dual language book about a baby Polar bear Lars that floats away from home. With the friendship of others, he finds his way back home.
The illustrations are adorable and Lars is one of those characters that will bring out empathy.
A special thank you to North South Books Inc and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
The book title is Little Polar and the Pandas but the ARC which was sent was Where are you going Lars?
The story involves a small polar bear who drifts away from home when his ice floe breaks apart. He ends up travelling to Africa, floating on a barrel, where he meets a hippo and chameleon.
The illustrations are lovely but I didn’t find the story particularly captivating.
I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Actually it is not the book about the Little Polar Bear and the Pandas, but a book about the Polar Bear Lars´ adventures in Africa. In the end it doesn´t matter because the story was nice anyway and the fact that the book is bilingual - English/Spanish - it´a a plus too as I am trying to improve my Spanish skills anyway.
It´s a simple story, told with love and beautifully illustrated. It flows nicely and keeps the children interested as there are new things and adventures and new people Lars meets all the time, before coming back to his snow covered North Pole. The book is a great inspiration for opening the children appetite for travel and discoveries as well.
When I opened the book, it was The Little Polar Bear - Where are you going, Lars? So this is not a review of the polar bear in China. I thought I downloaded the wrong book, but actually every member of Netgalley received the same thing.
So here is my opinion of the book. I do love the illustrations. Those are the very first thing attracted me to this book. A cute polar bear!
In this book, Lars the polar cub was lost in the sea, and went to an unknown land. There he met animals he never met before, but though he is small, he showed the courage to go back home by himself.
I enjoyed the book, and believe that the book meant for older kids or to be read aloud by parents.
I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
Although I was sent a copy of Little Polar bear and the Pandas, upon opening the pdf of the book, the book I actually received was Little Polar bear - where are you Lars. I read the book sent instead anyway and enjoyed it but really wanted to read the polar bear and the pandas book. Lars ends up in Africa in the book I was sent and there were definitely no pandas in this book.
These books are bilingual books in Spanish and English which is a great idea for bilingual children and families.
This one wasn't really a favorite of mine. It seemed like it had a lot of information which isn't necessarily a bad thing but when it comes to reading to littles their attention spans may not be the best for such long books. The things I did like were the illustrations & that it was also translated into spanish. It wasn't a bad childrens book by any means it was very good but it just seemed a but longer than most books we pick.
There was way too much text on every page. Kids within the target age range would be bored to tears halfway through.
Hello! I didn’t seem to get the right book included in this download. If the right book is available, I’d be glad to send a review. If not, let me know and I can add a review for the book included in this space.
A cute story with beautiful illustrations about a polar bear who falls asleep on an iceberg with his father, only to ease up floating on a separate piece all by himself. He winds up unrealistically floating to a warmer climate where he meets other animal friends who help him get back home.
**I received and voluntarily read an e-ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.**
Sent the wrong book for review, but the book I was sent was part of this series.
Cute pictures, like the double languages.
This was a little confusing because I was supposed to be reviewing Little Polar Bear and the Pandas by Han de Beer, however, I was sent Little Polar Bear "Where Are You Going, Lars?" by Hans de Beer. Because of this, I cannot give an accurate review (& star rating) for Little Polar Bear and the Pandas. I did love the one that I received (despite some grammatical errors / display issues).
I have always loved the Little Polar Bear series. I would love to read any of these books to my kindergarten class!
A very sweet story about a polar bear who gets lost on a journey, and a hippo and a whale help him home. I loved the illustrations in this. They are so realistic and heartwarming. This would be a great book that could possibly become your child's favorite very quickly.
I received an electronic ARC from North South Books Inc through NetGalley. However, it was a link to a different Little Polar Bear Story - Where Are You Going Lars?
Little Polar Bear is a timeless character and young readers love the adventures. In this case, Lars ends up in Africa after the ice floe broke off and melted. He floated on a barrel and reached a green land. The hippo helps him get to Drago the eagle who connects him with an orca that takes him home. He's reunited with his father and heads for their home.
The illustrations are delightful and support the text. This version also includes the story in Spanish. It's terrific to see de Beer's stories extended so readers in various countries can become part of Little Polar Bear's adventures.
3.5 stars
This was a very sweet story about a little polar bear who drifts off to Africa where he meets some new friends who help him home. The illustrations were super cute and it was very enjoyable, just wished it was a bit longer.
This book made me cry in the middle of the night while reading. This is about Lars, a polar bear, being separated to his father and his journey back to North Pole. As someone who doesn't want adventures and just want to stay inside my house for the rest of my life, I had anxiety about whether Lars will be able to survive by his own and go back to his family. I got sad as well for his Hippo friend in Africa. This book just made me sad and cry the whole time, and I liked it. Though, there are no pandas in here, which I'm totally confused as to why. And I don't know if this is what the author is trying to say here, but the overall lesson I got was global warming is real and it affects not just humans, but the animals as well. If maybe the author mentioned about what really happened to the ice where Lars and his father are sleeping, whether it cracked or melted, and maybe add a sentence or two as to why that happened, then I think I will be satisfied.
The incorrect book was downloaded. My digital copy was difficult to read as words were incomplete. I do not feel that I can give an accurate rating, however, the star rating is for the technology difficulties.
Little Polar Bear and the Pandas by Hans de Beer is a very cute polar bear that tries to find his way home after drifting away on an iceberg. I think children would enjoy reading about the animals he meets on his journey.
