A great little book about peace, not only in the world, but within yourself. This book was filled with illustrations that will have children's eyes glued to the book while a parent reads. The drawings will easily fuel the child's imagination to relate to the text.
I received an electronic ARC from North South Books Inc. through NetGalley.
Beautiful definitions of peace that younger readers will understand. The authors take readers through simple to understand ways that peace affects not only humans but all life on earth. The illustrations are lovely and detailed enough to make readers feel they are part of the scene. Terrific read aloud for early in the school year. I love the simple statement on the back cover, "Peace is a choice." It offers a discussion starting point for readers to share their own thoughts and how they build off the book.
"Peace is on purpose. Peace is a choice. Peace lets the smallest of us have a voice." I love this passage from the book. It's simple and deep all at the same time. This book teaches peace and unity- something our world desperately needs. The illustrations were diverse and inclusive to represent the real world around us. I also loved the ages of trees with the leaves saying leace in other languages.
First off this is a gorgeously illustrated book. Every animal and child jumps off of the page at you. The colors are vibrant and the drawings are simple and sweet, yet also beautifully detailed.
The message of the book is obviously trying to get children to understand about getting along with others as soon as they are old enough to understand. It empowers children by showing that even their small acts have consequences. It states simple things such as ""Peace means we talk to each other directly", "Peace is on purpose. Peace is a choice. Peace lets the smallest of us have a voice." "Peace can begin with a laugh and a wave, and grow into actions remarkably brave".
There are illustrations of children of many skin colors and abilities. The animals as well are very diverse, everything from pandas, zebras, elephants down to the smallest butterfly are beautifully drawn.
This is a beautiful book to add to the library of any child over the age of 3 or 4. Just lovely!
I received an ARC of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. It is set to publish on March 2, 2021

This is a children's picture book which has beautiful and unique illustrations and simple writing that portrays different ways in which children can be peaceful. It shows children living in harmony and peace with other people, nature and animals. An important message from the book is that if humans are peaceful, then animals in the surrounding areas will also live in peace. My daughter and I enjoyed this book. She especially liked the illustrations and I liked the messages that the book portrayed.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Peace is a Children's book outlining the concept of peace. It has an amazing use of colour and a unique art style. The story itself is really lovely and conveys peace coming from connection not only between a diverse range of human beings but also with nature and animals. It would be a really excellent tool to use with children in the classroom and at home to foster this idea of peace within them.
Peace has a simple message but one much-needed in our anxiety-ridden times: simple acts of kindness and empathy can help make the world a better place.
Diversity is a nice feature throughout the book, both in message and in the pictures. Children of a wide range of ethnicities are featured and a wide range of animals and colors are used to further emphasize this point. Also, at the beginning of the book, the word ‘peace’ is presented in a multitude of languages—again signifying our diverse world.
The illustrator, Esteli Meza, has won numerous awards and will add author to her title in 2021 with Finding Home to be published by Scholastic.
The authors are accomplished as well, having won honors, including multiple Junior Library Guild selections. The husband-wife team also do good work, sending large book donations to Gambia and speaking at numerous schools.
The author’s note in the back about Mozambique and the interplay between people, animals and the environment can easily spark discussion with elementary-age children and up. Recommended.
Peace was a very colorful, relaxing, hopeful book. In a time of anxiety, uncertainty, and conflict, this is a great book for kids and adults alike. The text was sporadic, but the words used were powerful. The images conveyed love, peace, and hope with colorful interactions between animals and people. The message is hopeful and the author's note at the end provides a real-world examples of the benefits of peace. This book provided me with a relaxing, hopeful five minutes and I know kids who read it will feel the same experience. Thanks!
Beautiful illustrations. The message of this book is quite lovely. Could see using this text with a wide range of students and in various contexts. Especially loved the page about pronouncing your friends name correctly.
What a gorgeous picture book! The illustrations are fabulous, and I appreciate the diversity represented. I will definitely purchase a copy for our family collection when it's released.
Thank you to NetGalley for granting me access to this book. .First of all, the illustrations in this book are what initially drew me into this book, and beautifully depicted peace. This book explains the many ways of demonstrating peace and serves as a reminder for us all to encourage positivity for the world. It also creates an opening for discussion to continue after the story concludes!
Beautifully illustrated book explaining the ways children can create peace. The illustrations feature rounded lines and no black outlines. This gives the book a soft, playful feel, almost like a nursery.
The book features children of all ethnicities and animals that are the symbols of peace around the world. The language includes things like talking to others directly and pronouncing names correctly. Great tools for young readers to understand peaceful conflict resolution and kindness.
The authors’ notes at the back about their native country of Mozambique and the impact of war on the local animal population were thought-provoking. The illustrator is an award winning artist from Mexico. This could spark discussion among young readers about people from different countries working together peacefully to write the book.
Thanks to NetGalley for a free electronic copy in return for a review.

Peace is a beautifully illustrated storybook about instilling peace in the world by being kind and respectful to those around us. Essentially, peace is love, and love expressed through respect, clear communication, and understanding. These sentiments are artfully expressed with ways preschool-aged kids can understand, and paired with beautiful illustrations that depict a diverse group of people and animals.
I adore this book and would definitely buy a copy for my daughter. I will not hesitate to recommend it to the parents and teachers in my life.
This is an interesting take on a popular idea but one not explored in books for youngsters very much.
Peace is so many different things & this book uses beautiful style, & gentle rhyme to explore many ideas.
Peace can be a comfort to some people or sharing time with people, or speaking to others.
The illustrations have a unique style - showing a diverse mixture of people & animals looking after each other, growing vegetables & gardening.
The artwork is refreshing & not the typical standard bright colours or over-simplified shapes we see so much in picture books. It's a thoughtful book & might encourage some positivity.
There's a lot to talk about after reading this short book too. Children could enjoy looking at the details in the illustrations & spend time talking about the thoughts laid out in the book.
Original & excellent.
The first thing that caught my attention was the magnificent artwork. I was drawn to the cover immediately and the topic is so important nowadays. I loved the attention to detail, the names on the leaves of the branches and the vibrant colors. There is beautiful differences in the people drawn, and it relates to the reader. For instance, The African-American pregnant mother and her child. It reads like a poem, and is perfect for young children to learn about culture and diversity.
This was cute and right on track for what we need in the world today.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and am looking forward to other works by these authors. Also the illustrations were really well done and they fit with the tone of the book.
This is a beautiful book about peace between human beings. It has a very diverse set of characters and has a story within the illustrations. The book is not filled with too many words so it’s perfect for younger children. This is a great starting point for a discussion on peace and kindness.
Peace is a beautifully-illustrated book with an important message. I loved the focus on peace as a choice that we make with our actions every day. This book empowers children to be peacemakers through their actions and encourages children to do the little things in their daily lives that will build a more peaceful world.
I thought that this was a lovely book and I loved the images used.
The book was easy to follow and understand and whilst the text was simple and only a few words were used the point really comes across in the book and personally I don’t think any more is needed.
The book is set perfectly for the target audience– it is 5 stars from me for this one!
This book focuses on the concept of peace, exploring how/what actions can foster and manifest it into action. The book is written with gentle rhyme. Moreover, I appreciate how this book utilises the gorgeous illustrations well, painting soft and calming pictures evoking a gentle warmth that complements the narrative well.
Overall, ‘Peace’ is a thought-provoking book that revolves around compassion, self-care, and empathy. This book may serve as a great conversation starter for little ones regarding peace (the author’s note left me food for thought). I’d recommend this book to read to the little ones’ prior bed.
