*received for free from netgalley for honest review* Cute little bed or nap time mermaid themed counting board book, art is adorable
This is an adorable book that has pastel illustrations. The mermaids and jellyfish are super cute and stand out against dark backgrounds. Counting books are my favorite, and this one definitely did not disappoint!
The illustrations are cute, sweet, and filled with detail, and the rhyming text is engaging and fun. This is a nice little interactive book that will be great for read-alouds or being enjoyed during independent reading (which might be "reading," but littles will be able to count the objects even if they can't read the words yet). Adorable!

This was cute and the illustrations were beautiful. However, I think my file may have had some issues, as the numbers were all out of order.
I have read a lot of counting books like this one with my daughter who turned 3 in July this year and she always enjoys them. This one has some lovely images and she loved naming the different sea creatures as the book progressed. It was easy to follow too and I liked the rhyming nature too – it is 4 stars from me for this one – highly recommended!
Suzanne Diederen, this is a knockout! I adore these illustrations and the adventures in the sea. The pictures are dreamy and fun and so perfect for little ones. It's hard to find 'gentle' mermaid books that aren't all glitter and in-your-face illustrations. This was fun and cute! We've read a LOT since I downloaded!
This is just very cute and adorable for young children. The colors are aesthetically pleasing and engaging.
I loved the underwater theme for this counting book. Then pictures are pretty- a great combo with the aqua and coral color scheme. I enjoyed that several pages were interactive- in which isnyour favorite, count with me, take a peek, etc.
My daughter is at that stage where books don't always hold her attention, but because this book was quite interactive and I could get her counting and looking for say the crabs, it kept her attention throughout.
Great little book that is good for learning your numbers .
This book was adorable and written well for children! I read it to my little ones and they wanted to read it again and again! Cute and educational! Would recommend!
Every time I choose a book for children to review, and I read together with my daughter, I try to catch the real reaction to the book from the auditorium for which it is intended - the children.
The Mermaid Counting Book by Suzanne Diederen is a great choice for toddlers, preschoolers and my five year old girl. The cover itself and the main character Uri were more than enough to interest my daughter. Although it looks like many counting books for children, which we can find in stores, the book offers a lot of opportunities to interact with the child.
As we turned the pages, and looked at the pictures, we discussed and repeated them for the numbers. Not only the numbers, this book offers an excellent basis to look at all the inhabitants of the sea world, to repeat the words they already know , but also to learn new ones. I was especially thrilled by the added questions that encourage the child to think and answer, to repeat and to express their own thoughts.
The style of writing itself, as well as the lexical units used, correspond entirely to the age of the children for whom this book is intended, and the illustrations are more than enough to keep the child's attention, which in itself is a sufficient fact.
I received an electronic ARC from Kids Can Press through NetGalley.
Based on the true mission of Jella Lepman to bring books to Germany's children following World War II. She requested books from 20 countries to help build bridges and healing. Stinson creates a story of two siblings - Anneliese and Peter - who attend the book exhibition and hear Jella read about Ferdinand and Babar. Detailed illustrations show the juxtaposition between the destroyed buildings and the hope of reading. Use to show connections around the world and how hope can remain after war's destruction.
The Mermaid Counting Book is a whimsical pre-reader book that teaches numbers and ocean animals. We follow little mermaid as she explores and meets new ocean friends! I read this aloud with my 3.5 and 1.5 yr old sons.
Each pages features a number and different countable creatures while also telling a simple adventure story. We love learning books in this format! This type of teaching through a story, no matter how simple the story may be, allows for a family's library to contain many, many books teaching the same concept without being boring. To be more clear, we have maybe 15 pre-reader books that teach counting and numbers, and my sons continue to be interested in counting stories when each one is of good quality like this. We can cycle through them and learn organically.
We have mostly books on animals and vehicles, so it was a treat to have a mermaid book to read. The color palettes are stunning! Gorgeous shades of pinks, greens, purples, oranges that fed my creative soul! We enjoyed talking about the different sorts of animals in the book.
In addition to learning numbers, because of the brilliant colors used in this book, I was able to teach my 3 yr old about how every color comes in different shades and hues. There is a page that features crabs in varying shades of red, and we had a wonderful conversation about how they were all red but all different.
We loved this book! Thank you Clavis Publishing and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for my hoenst review!
Thank you to Clavis Publishing and NetGalley for a digital ARC of The Mermaid Counting Book by Suzanne Dierderen. I love this book for early language and math development skills. The illustrations are whimsical and appeal to both boys and girls. As a speech-language pathologist, I LOVE the inclusion of positional concepts in the text. I look forward to using this book in my K/1 therapy groups!
This sweet rhyming book is a fun way to learn to count to 10. An adorable little mermaid named Umi explores her underwater world and on her journey she counts various under-the-sea items such as octopuses, crabs, seahorses, pearls in shells and starfish just to name a few. Lost in the amazement of her surroundings she realizes it's growing dark and time to swim home because her Mom will want her back safe and sound.
The whimsical, dreamy colour pallet is perfect for the theme. Kids love rhyming books and they particularly will love the delightful ending. "The Mermaid Counting Book" encourages reading together with a focus on language development. I highly recommend it.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. I like this mermaid book on counting but I wish it was a full-sized book instead of a board book.
Thank you to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for granting me access to this title in exchange for an honest review.
The Mermaid Counting Book is an illustrated counting poem that teaches the numbers 1-10 by exploring all the things a young mermaid might find wandering around under the sea. The illustrations are fun, and the rhyme and meter of the poem flow so well. This was very enjoyable to read!
My three-year-old loved listening to this, and I think this will be the sort of book young readers pick up easily once they start reading on their own.
This was a cute children's picture book that would be suitable for a baby, toddler or young child.. My daughter and I really enjoyed the illustrations, the characters and the text with numbers, which was great for helping her to recognise numbers 1-10 and learn how to count. We loved this book and highly recommend it!
Many thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The Mermaid Counting Book is a really great book for teaching your little kid their numbers. The art is very sweet and questions throughout will keep your kiddo engaged.
I loved the soft and colorful illustrations. This would be great for a mermaid or ocean themed story time because it is interactive.
